Abstract
Molybdenum compounds containing benzaldehyde-based hydrazones were obtained. The reaction in MeOH resulted with monomeric Mo complexes, [MoO2(L)(MeOH)], while the reaction in dichloromethane (DCM) provided oligomeric complexes, [MoO2(L)]n. The solid-state structures of the obtained compounds were investigated through Infrared Spectroscopy - Attenuated Total Reflection (IR-ATR), Thermogravimetric analysis (TGA), and via X-ray diffraction. The prepared molybdenum species were employed as cyclooctene epoxidation catalysts. TBHP (tert-butylhydroperoxide) in water and TBHP in decane were employed and compared as oxidants, with 0.25 mol% [Mo]. The catalyst activity and selectivity towards epoxide is >90% for all the reactions. The results have been linked to theoretical calculations, showing the importance of the first step, i.e., the transformation of [MoO2(L)(MeOH)] into the pentacoordinate [MoO2(L)].

Abstract
To develop high-nuclearity clusters as multi-functional materials, we prepared a new type of sandwich clusters using an anion-templated synthetic strategy. The reactions of (2R,3R)-2,3-dihydroxybutanedioylbis(salicylidene hydrazone) (H6L) with [Cu2(OAc)4(H2O)2] in the presence of alkali metal halide (NaCl, NaBr, KCl or KBr) provided four high-nuclearity clusters [MCu18L6X(C5H5N)15(DMF)3]·3DMF·6H2O (M = Na and X = Cl (1); M = Na and X = Br (2); M = K and X = Cl (3); and M = K and X = Br (4)). They represent a new type of nanoscale high-nuclearity heterometallic sandwich clusters, in which the halide anion is fully sandwiched by two planar nonanuclear clusters, and the alkali metal ion is half-sandwiched on the top of the upper planar nonanuclear cluster. The experimental magnetic data and simulating results reveal dominant antiferromagnetic interactions between metal ions in these compounds. Their dielectric constants and electric hysteresis loops were also measured.

Abstract
The stereochemistry and dynamics of MoO2(acac)2 in benzene, chloroform, and toluene were investigated by variable temperature (1)H NMR, density functional theory (SOGGA11-X, B3LYP), and ab initio (MP2) methods. In solution, an equilibrium between two chiral enantiomers with C2 symmetry was identified, Λ-cis-MoO2(acac)2 and Δ-cis-MoO2(acac)2. The two enantiomers are connected via achiral cis transition states that switch the enantiomeric conformations via a Ray-Dutt, Bailar, and a newly described racemization twisting mechanism. All three mechanisms have similar calculated activation energies. Activation parameters Ea, ΔH(‡), and ΔS(‡) were experimentally determined for the exchange process, with a small, negative ΔS(‡), and a positive ΔH(‡) of 68.1 kJ mol(-1) in benzene, 54.9 kJ mol(-1) in chloroform, and 60.6 kJ mol(-1) in toluene, in reasonable general agreement with the calculations. Trans configurations of MoO2(acac)2 are very much higher in energy than cis and are not relevant in the temperature range experimentally studied, 243-340 K. The enantiomers interconvert within seconds near room temperature and much faster at elevated temperatures. Racemization will thus prevent the use of enantiomerically pure MoO2(acac)2 for chiral catalysis under practical conditions.

Abstract
Pyrazolone complexes have strong bio-activity but the anti-tumor mechanism of pyrazolone-based metal complexes is not fully understood. In this study, the inhibitory effect and possible mechanism of a novel pyrazolone-based derivative compound (Cd-PMPP-SAL) on human esophageal cancer cells were investigated. We found that Cd-PMPP-SAL inhibited the proliferation of Eca-109 cells in a dose-dependent manner and induced the apoptosis in the cells. Interestingly, Cd-PMPP-SAL promoted the production of ROS, loss of mitochondrial membrane potential, PARP cleavage and activation of caspase-3/9. These results suggest Cd-PMPP-SAL-induced apoptosis might be mediated by the increased production of ROS and caspase-dependent mitochondria-mediated pathway. These results suggest that Cd-PMPP-SAL is a potential candidate for the treatment of esophageal cancer.

Abstract
A new dioxo-molybdenum(VI) complex [MoO(2)(L)(H(2)O)] has been synthesized, using 5-methoxy 2-[(2-hydroxypropylimino)methyl]phenol as tridentate ONO donor Schiff base ligand (H(2)L) and MoO(2)(acac)(2). The yellow crystals of the compound are used for single-crystal X-ray analysis and measuring Fourier Transform Infrared (FTIR), UV-visible, (1)H NMR and (13)C NMR spectra. Electronic structure calculations at the B3LYP and PW91PW91 levels of theory are performed to optimize the molecular geometry and to calculate the UV-visible, FTIR, (1)H NMR and (13)C NMR spectra of the compound. Vibrational assignments and analysis of the fundamental modes of the compound are performed. Time-dependent density functional theory (TDDFT) method is used to calculate the electronic transitions of the complex. All theoretical methods can well reproduce the structure of the compound. The (1)H NMR shielding tensors computed at the B3LYP/DGDZVP level of theory is in agreement with experimental (1)H NMR spectra. However, the (13)C NMR shielding tensors computed at the B3LYP level, employing a combined basis set of DGDZVP for Mo and 6-31+G(2df,p) for other atoms, are in better agreement with experimental (13)C NMR spectra. The electronic transitions calculated at the B3LYP/DGDZVP level by using TD-DFT method is in accordance with the observed UV-visible spectrum of the compound.
