Abstract
Epstein-Barr virus (EBV) and cytomegalovirus (CMV) infections affect around 95% of the world's population. In Brazil, there are few epidemiological reports related to EBV and CMV infection, especially in the western Amazon region. This study aimed to estimate the seroprevalence of EBV and CMV infection in individuals residents in Presidente Figueiredo, Amazonas, Brazil. Blood samples of 443 individuals were tested for the presence of anti-EBV and anti-CMV IgG antibodies through an enzyme-linked immunosorbent assay. EBV (95.9%; 95% CI: 0.94;0.98), CMV (96.8%; 95% CI: 0.95;0.98) and CMV/EBV (93%;95% CI: 0.91-0.95) coinfection were highly prevalent in the study population. Children (1 to 5 years) not attending school were less susceptible to EBV (OR 0.15; 95% CI: 0.05-0.52; p = 0.017) and CMV infections (OR 0.05; 95% CI: 0.02 - 0.17; p < 0.0001). Teenagers at high school showed increased susceptibility to CMV infection (OR 4.65; 95%CI: 1.43-15.08; p = .013) and EBV/CMV co-infection (OR 3.04; 95%CI: 1.44-6.45; p = 0.005). The seroprevalence of CMV and EBV infections were preeminent and tend to increase with age in the study population. Either attendance to a daycare facility or primary school before the age of 5 years may increase the susceptibility to EBV or CMV infection.

Abstract
Background Screening for cytomegalovirus (CMV)-specific antibodies is not routine in some settings. Thus, transfusion of blood products poses risks for susceptible individuals. Objectives To investigate the global pooled CMV seroprevalence among volunteer blood donors. Methods This systematic review and meta-analysis was performed according to PRISMA guidelines. The databases searched included Embase, Google Scholar, Medline, PubMed, Web of Science, and Cochrane Library. Data were extracted independently and analyzed using STATA version 11. Results The global seroprevalence of CMV IgG, CMV IgM, and both CMV IgM and IgG was 83.16% (95% confidence interval [CI]: 78.55–87.77%, I2 = 99.5%), 13.77% (95% CI: 11.59–15.95%, I2 = 98.8%), and 23.78% (95% CI: 10.50–37.06%, I2 = 98.7), respectively. Conclusion The global seroprevalence of CMV was high among blood donors. Therefore, regular CMV screening should be conducted to identify CMV-seronegative blood donors.

Abstract
Biomedical Waste Management practice in Dentistry is an important issue. Therefore, it is of interest to document awareness on such issues among clinical practitioners, academicians and students. A survey was completed using a questionnaire from 355 dentists consisting of 201 students, 39 academicians and 115 clinicians in India. Analysis of the survey data shows that majority of students, practitioners, and academicians are aware of laws binding with such issues. However, the Biomedical Waste Management practice among them is not satisfactory. Therefore, education on such issues among clinical practitioners, academicians and students is critical in this part of the globe.

Abstract
Introduction the risk of dengue virus or its antibodies which can be transmitted through blood transfusion by asymptomatic individuals infected, has been a major concern all over the world. Dengue is an endemic disease in sub-Saharan Africa, particularly in Cameroon. The purpose of this study is to determine the frequency of dengue virus (DENV) infection among potential blood donors at Yaounde Jamot Hospital. Methods serum samples were collected from 310 potential adult blood donors aged 18-57 years, who signed a written informed consent and completed the questionnaire between March 2019 and August 2019. This serum is used to screen for the presence of serological markers of DENV infection (NS1, IgM and IgG) using immunochromatographic tests (Zhuhai Encode Medical Engineering Co., Ltd, China). IgM/IgG positive samples were confirmed by enzyme-linked immunosorbent assays (ELISA). Results the overall prevalence was 24.8% among potential blood donors were subdivided as follows: 4.5% (14/310), 12.3% (38/310) and 6.1% (19/310) showed mono-positivity to DENV-NS1 antigen, anti-DENV IgM and anti-DENV IgG antibodies respectively. 1.9% (6/310) of potential blood donors showed dual positivity to anti-DENV IgM antibodies and anti-DENV IgG antibodies. The presence of DENV-NS1 antigen show asymptomatic viremia of dengue at the time of donation, while the presence of IgG antibodies reflects the high endemicity of dengue disease in the city of Yaoundé. Conclusion these findings demonstrate the high level of risk of the DENV transmission among potential blood donors to needy recipients, underscoring the importance of establishing dengue fever blood screening in different services and blood collection units in Cameroon to improve safety transfusion and control the dissemination of the DENV.

Abstract
Introduction human cytomegalovirus (CMV) has remained a cause of morbidity and mortality in pregnancy and immunocompromised patients. CMV is transmissible through blood transfusion. We conducted a descriptive, cross-sectional study to assess blood donor safety and to determine the prevalence and associated factors for CMV infection among blood donors in Minna, Nigeria. Methods all consenting blood donors were screened for CMV antibodies (IgM and IgG) using ELISA kit and haematological indices using a haematological analyzer. We administered structured questionnaires to obtain socio-demographic and socio-economic data. Data were subjected to univariate, bivariate and multivariate statistical analyses using Epi Info version 3.5.4. Significant associations were presumed if p < 0.05. Results a total of 345 participantswere recruited, the majority were males 336 (97.4%). Monthly earnings of majority of the blood donors, 136 (40.6%) ranged from ₦18,000 to ₦35,000. The prevalence of CMV infection was 96.2%. The prevalence of anti-CMV IgG antibodies was 96.2% and that of IgM was 2.6%. Most of the study participants, 274 (79.4%) were family replacement donors. The majority of the blood donors 195 (56.5%) were anaemic (PCV < 36, Hb < 12g/dl). Those with positive CMV were more likely to be of high-income level (OR = 0.32, P = 0.04). Conclusion the seroprevalence of CMV was high with a significant proportion of donors capable of transmitting CMV infection to blood recipients. The majority of the blood donors were anaemic. High income level is associated with CMV infection. Quality of screening for anemia be improved.

Abstract
Human cytomegalovirus (HCMV) is an important cause of morbidity and mortality in immunosuppressed transplant recipients. Isolation of HCMV from peripheral blood leukocytes (PBLs) is considered a reliable marker of disseminated HCMV infection. HCMV pp65 antigenemia is widely used for monitoring CMV infection and guiding preemptive therapy. The aim of this study was to compare pp65 antigenemia with culture technique for detection of HCMV in PBLs among kidney transplant patients and also to determine the threshold value of significant pp65 antigenemiat. Fifty-one peripheral blood samples from post-renal transplant patients collected during August 2009 to March 2011 were processed for pp65 antigenemia assay. These were also tested for isolation of the virus by inoculation into human corneal fibroblast cells. The results of pp65 antigenemia and culture were compared to determine the clinical significance of pp65 antigenemia. HCMV was isolated in 21 cases. On comparing the pp65 antigenemia results with that of the viral isolation, a mean of 23 cells was determined to yield a positive isolation of HCMV. The values of pp65 antigenemia and isolation results were correlated (paired t-test, P = 0.0029). A pp65 count of 23 and above was considered significant in our clinical settings since we found that these clinical specimens yield positive culture result.
