Abstract
Background The incidence of ocular metastasis from lung cancer is reported to be 0.1–7%, with adenocarcinoma and small cell lung cancer accounting for the highest proportions of these cases. The majority of cases involves metastasis to more than one other distal organ in addition to the eye. Here, we report for the first time, a case of lung squamous cell carcinoma with solitary symptomatic ocular metastasis as the initial manifestation that was managed by a multidisciplinary treatment (MDT). Case presentation A woman presented at the ophthalmology department of hospital with a 1-week history of left eye pain and blurred vision. Systemic examination led to the diagnosis of central lung cancer in the right lower lobe with ocular metastasis. After consultations with an MDT, including specialists from the surgery, internal medicine, ophthalmology, radiotherapy and imaging departments, the patient underwent surgery and chemotherapy. Her eye symptoms disappeared, and the ocular lesion was well controlled without any specific ocular treatment. The patient demonstrated a prolonged progression-free survival. Conclusion This is the first report of a rare case with solitary ocular metastasis as the initial manifestation of lung squamous cell carcinoma. This rare patient was treated based on evidence-based medicine, indicating the importance of cooperation within an MDT. The successful treatment of this case was reported as a new therapeutic reference for clinicians who encounter similar cases in the future.

Abstract
Intraocular metastases almost invariably arise in the uveal tract, mostly in the posterior choroid. They are the most common type of intraocular malignancy and often the first sign of tumor dissemination. Choroidal metastases generally appear as a creamy white or pale yellow mass associated with subretinal fluid and may be multifocal and bilateral. The most common primary sites are breast and lung. Diagnosis is aided by a variety of tests, particularly ultrasonography and optical coherence tomography. Intraocular biopsy is useful in patients with clinical suspicion of uveal metastasis but no evidence of primary malignancy despite systemic evaluation. If systemic treatment fails to control the ocular tumor, a good response is usually achieved with local therapies such as external beam radiation therapy, photodynamic therapy, and transpupillary thermotherapy. The life expectancy of patients with choroidal metastases is generally poor but has been improving thanks to the therapeutic advances taking place.

Abstract
The choroid is the most common ocular site for metastatic disease, owing to abundant vascular supply. The primary cancers that most commonly lead to choroidal metastases include breast cancer (40-47%) and lung cancer (21-29%). Bilateral, multifocal metastases are most often secondary to breast cancer, whereas unilateral, unifocal metastasis are more commonly found with lung cancer. The treatment of choroidal metastasis depends on the systemic status of the patient and number, location, and laterality of the choroidal tumors. Treatment options include observation in patients with poor systemic status or those with resolved or asymptomatic disease; systemic chemotherapy, immunotherapy, hormone therapy, or whole eye radiotherapy if the metastases are active, multifocal and bilateral; plaque radiotherapy, transpupillary radiotherapy, or photodynamic therapy for active, solitary metastasis; and enucleation for those with blind painful eye. A database search was performed on PubMed, using the terms “choroidal metastasis,” or “choroidal metastases,” in combination with terms such as “treatment,” “features,” or “diagnosis.” Relevant articles were extracted and reviewed.

Abstract
The occurrence of ocular metastasis from lung cancer is uncommon. The present study reports the case of a 69-year-old female patient with lung adenocarcinoma who was found to have a metastatic lesion in the left choroid at the time of presentation. As the patient was found to have a mutation in the epidermal growth factor receptor, treatment with gefitinib was administered; however, the response was evaluated as a progressive disease. Thereafter, the patient received chemotherapy with carboplatin, pemetrexed and bevacizumab. Radiological imaging revealed shrinkage of the primary lesion and choroidal metastasis, and the visual power of the left eye was also shown to improve. Therefore, the present case report demonstrated the efficacy and safety of systemic bevacizumab therapy in combination with a platinum doublet for the treatment of choroid metastasis, with morphological and functional improvements observed with regard to the choroidal metastatic tumor.

Abstract
Breast and lung cancers are the most common primary neoplasms to manifest with choroidal metastases. The incidence of choroidal metastases from metastatic lung cancer was reported to be 2–6.7%. We report a case of bilateral choroidal metastasis from non-small cell lung cancer. A 59-year-old Caucasian female patient, never a smoker, was diagnosed with stage IV lung adenocarcinoma metastatic to the pleura, bones, and the brain. Her initial scan of the chest showed innumerable soft tissue nodules and mediastinal adenopathy compatible with metastatic disease. Her initial brain MRI showed numerous small enhancing lesions consistent with extensive disease. Unfortunately, during her follow-up visits, she presented with bulge on her left eye. Simultaneously, her follow-up chest scan showed increase in the size of the lung nodules. She continued to have a reasonable performance status at that time, except for mild increase in her dyspnea. The choroidal metastases require a multidisciplinary care and should be among the differential patients with malignancy who present with ocular symptoms.

Abstract
INTRODUCTION The aim of the present report was to draw the attention of oncologists to the importance of prompt diagnosis of primary clear cell adenocarcinoma of the lung, which allows early initiation of treatment to maintain quality of life. CASE PRESENTATION A 63-year-old Chinese woman initially presented to our facility with multifocal bilateral choroid metastatic lesions that were found to originate from a primary clear cell adenocarcinoma of the lung (T2bN2M1b, stage IV). A thorough ophthalmologic evaluation, study of our patient's history, imaging studies and comprehensive immunohistochemical staining tests led to the diagnosis of this rare lung tumor. CONCLUSIONS Although this uncommon cancer is unfortunately already at a late stage when choroid metastases develop, systemic chemotherapy alone is sufficient to preserve vision and gain control over the disease.

Abstract
It has been over a century since Perls described the first case of choroidal metastasis. For the next six decades only 230 cases were described in the literature. Today, however, ocular metastasis is recognized as the most common intraocular malignancy. Thanks to recent advances in treatment options for metastatic disease, patients are living longer, and choroidal metastases will become an increasingly important issue for oncologists and ophthalmologists alike. We summarize the current knowledge of choroidal metastases and examine their emerging systemic and local therapies. Targeted therapies for metastatic lung, breast, and colon cancer--the most common causes of choroidal metastases--are reviewed in detail with the goal of identifying the most effective treatment strategies.

Abstract
AIM To report the efficacy of external local radiotherapy in the treatment of choroidal metastases. PATIENTS AND METHODS The study reports four cases of patients with choroidal metastases of lung neoplasm confirmed by the bronchial biopsy. Polychemotherapy was associated with external radiotherapy of the ocular metastases. DISCUSSION AND CONCLUSION The external radiotherapy dose of 30 Gy to the posterior segment of the eye in 10 fractions was effective and seemed to be the most appropriate management of choroidal metastasis despite the use of the newest molecules in chemotherapy.

Abstract
Ocular metastasis from lung cancer is uncommon. We report a patient with metastatic non-small cell lung cancer who was found to have a metastatic lesion in the choroid at the time of presentation. The patient was treated with carboplatin, gemcitabine, and bevacizumab. After three cycles of chemotherapy, radiologic imaging and ophthalmologic examination demonstrated complete resolution of the choroid lesion. This case report demonstrates the durable response of choroidal metastasis from non-small cell lung cancer to systemic bevacizumab and chemotherapy.

Abstract
INTRODUCTION Ocular metastases are rare in patients with lung cancer, and exceptionally indicate the condition. EXEGESIS We report 2 patients with symptomatic ocular metastases indicating lung adenocarcinoma, involving the choroid in the first case and the optic disc in the other, associated with other metastases. No improvement of visual acuity was observed after chemotherapy and radiotherapy. DISCUSSION Ocular metastases may indicate lung cancer, and are usually associated with other metastatic sites. The global prognosis is poor but an early treatment should result in improvement of visual prognosis.

Abstract
Lung cancer is the first cause of choroidal metastasis in man. Generally, its discovery is made at end-stage of the disease. It can be uncommonly the presenting sign as in our case. We report a case of a 28-year-old patient with no prior medical history. He presented with visual decrease and metamorphopsia that lead to the diagnosis of a metastatic adenocarcinoma of the lung (bone, liver, choroid, nodles). Chemotherapy permitted to improve visual acuity, in parallel with disappearance of choroidal metatasis. Discovery of choroidal tumor should evoke in first line metastasis. Chemotherapy can improve visual acuity and the quality of life.
