Abstract
The emergence of drug-resistant pathogenic bacteria is occurring due to the global overuse and misuse of β-lactam antibiotics. Infections caused by some bacteria which secrete metallo-β-lactamases (enzymes that inactivate β-lactam antibiotics) are increasingly prevalent and have become a major worldwide threat to human health. These bacteria are resistant to β-lactam antibiotics and MBL-inhibitor/β-lactam antibiotic combination therapy can be a strategy to overcome this problem. So far, no clinically available inhibitors of metallo-β-lactamases (MBLs) have been reported. In this study, L-benzyl tyrosine thiol carboxylic acid analogues (2a–2k) were synthesized after the study of computational simulation by adding of methyl, chloro, bromo and nitro groups to the benzyl ring for investigation of SAR analysis. Although the synthesized molecules 2a–k shows the potent inhibitory effects against metallo-β-lactamase (IMP-1) with the range of Kic values of 1.04–4.77 µM, they are not as potent as the candidate inhibitor.

Abstract
A novel convenient procedure for the resolution of 5,5'-biquinoline-6,6'-diol (BIQOL) was achieved by separating the corresponding diastereomeric mixture of (S)-(+)-camphorsulfonates on a semiprepared XDB-C8 column followed by hydrolysis. The efficient asymmetric addition of triethylaluminium to aromatic aldehydes catalyzed by Ti-(+)/(-)BIQOL complexes under mild conditions is described. The reactions led to the formation of 1-arylpropan-1-ol in up to 87.5% ee.

Abstract
Circular dichroism (CD) spectroscopy is one of the most useful techniques for the stereochemical analysis of chiral biopolymers and fine chemicals. It has become invaluable for the assignment of the absolute configuration, the study of conformational isomers, and the determination of racemization kinetics of CD active chiral compounds. Molecular interactions between a nonracemic chiral substrate and a chromophoric, CD-silent probe that is achiral or exists as a racemic mixture of rapidly interconverting enantiomeric conformations or configurations can induce a strong, characteristic chiroptical readout. A covalent or noncovalent binding event that coincides with a well-defined asymmetric induction process can effectively imprint the chiral information of the substrate on the stereodynamic sensor and thus generate intense Cotton effects in the UV region of the latter. The probe can thus function as a stereochemical reporter unit and analysis of the CD spectrum often provides accurate information about the absolute configuration and enantiomeric composition of the substrate used. In this review, recent developments in circular dichroism analysis of chiral compounds with stereodynamic probes are described and particular emphasis is given to sensor design, chiral induction processes and applications scope.

Abstract
The 3,5-dinitrobenzoyl-derived 1-naphthylethyl amide 3 is an attractive CSA for NMR analysis of protected amines. It is readily prepared in a single step and combines practical resolution of diastereomeric complexes due to signal sharpness and effective signal separation. Crystallographic analysis shows that 3 forms a chiral cleft that can selectively bind one enantiomer of a substrate through hydrogen bonding, π-π stacking, and CH/π interactions. The enantioselective complex formation causes strong upfield shifts in the (1)H NMR spectrum even in the presence of only 5 mol % of 3.

Abstract
A readily available bisoxazolidine ligand was found to catalyze the asymmetric alkylation of aldehydes with Et(2)Zn and less reactive Me(2)Zn, providing high yields and ee's in both reactions. The bisoxazolidine-catalyzed alkylations and alkynylation of benzaldehyde show a positive nonlinear effect that cannot be accounted for by Kagan's ML(n) model. The chiral amplification originates from selective phase distribution favoring enrichment of the major enantiomer of the scalemic catalyst in solution.
