Abstract
Oxazolines and thiazolines are important constituents of bioactive natural products and pharmaceuticals. Here, we report the development of an effective and practical method of oxazoline and thiazoline formation, which can facilitate the synthesis of natural products, chiral ligands, and pharmaceutical intermediates. This method capitalized on a Mo(VI) dioxide catalyst stabilized by substituted picolinic acid ligands, which is tolerant to many functional groups that would otherwise be sensitive to highly electrophilic alternative reagents.

Abstract
A novel method for joining four components together in a single pot leading to an assortment of N-amino-benzylated phenols is described. The method involves the addition of different Grignard reagents to various o-OBoc salicylaldehydes in the presence of assorted 4,5-dihydrooxazoles, followed by aqueous workup. Seventeen examples are presented with varied (-R, -R' -R″, -R‴, -R⁗, and Cn) substituents.

Abstract
The equimolar reaction between 2(2'-hydroxy)phenyloxazoline (1) and PPhCl2 in the presence of triethylamine afforded an unexpected cyclic product, phenyl-benzo-oxazaphosphininone (2), instead of a simple phosphinite derivative A. A similar reaction between 1 and PPhCl2 in 2 : 1 ratio also yielded the same product 2, but with one equivalent of 2(2'-hydroxy)phenyloxazoline (1) left unreacted. The formation of the cyclic product 2 is due to the P-Cl bond induced oxazoline ring opening followed by the formation of a six-membered γ-lactam type product, 3-(2-chloroethyl)-2-phenyl-2H-benzo[e][1,3,2]oxazaphosphinin-4(3H)-one (2 also referred to as L). The reactions of 2 with H2O2, elemental sulphur or elemental selenium yielded the corresponding chalcogenides, LE (3, E = O; 4, E = S; 5, E = Se) in quantitative yield. Treatment of 2 with [Ru(η(6)-Cymene)Cl2]2, [Pd(COD)Cl2] and [Pd(η(3)-C3H5)Cl]2 resulted in the formation of [RuCl2(η(6)-cymene)(L)] (6), [PdCl2{L}2] (7), and [Pd(η(3)-C3H5)Cl(L)] (8), respectively. The compound 2 obtained in the 2 : 1 reaction when treated with [Pd(η(3)-C3H5)Cl]2 gave the same palladium complex 8 (referred to as 9a), but co-crystallized with bis(oxazolyl)palladacycle (9b) as confirmed by single crystal X-ray analysis.

Abstract
In order to expand the repertoire of DNA sequences specifically interacting with transition metals, we report here the first examples of DNA sequences carrying mono- and bidentate phosphane ligands as well as P,N-ligands. Aminoalkyl-modified oligonucleotides have been reacted at predetermined internal sites with carboxylate derivatives of pyrphos, BINAP and phosphinooxazoline (PHOX) 2 b-d. Carbodiimide coupling in the presence of N-hydroxysuccinimide provided the DNA-ligand conjugates in 38-78 % yield. Phosphane-containing oligonucleotides and their phosphane sulfide analogues were characterized by mass spectrometry (MALDI-TOF and FT-ICR-ESI) and their stability after purification and isolation was systematically investigated. While DNA-appended pyrphos ligand was quickly oxidized, BINAP and PHOX conjugates showed high stabilities, making them useful precursors for incorporation of transition metals into DNA.

Abstract
The synthesis of naturally occurring D-erythro-(2R,3S,4E)-sphingosine from commercially available D-ribo-(2S,3S,4R)-phytosphingosine is described. The key step in the reaction sequence comprises TMSI/DBN promoted regio- and stereoselective oxirane opening of intermediate 2-phenyl-4-(S)-[(1S,2S)-1,2-epoxyhexadecyl]-1,3-oxazoline followed by the in situ trans-elimination of 2-phenyl-4-(S)-[(1S,2R)-1,2-dideoxy-2-iodo-1-trimethylsilyloxyhexadecyl]-1,3-oxazoline.

Abstract
[formula: see text] cis- and trans-Oxazoline-5-carboxylates were synthesized efficiently from isopropyl trans-cinnamate utilizing the Sharpless AA reaction. trans-Oxazoline was much more reactive than the cis-isomer toward ring opening reactions. From ab initio molecular calculations, the cis-isomer was predicted to be less reactive than the trans-isomer by 2.7 kcal/mol. Both syn and anti acetylthio esters and anti diamino esters were synthesized from these cis- and trans-oxazoline-5-carboxylates.
