Abstract
A comprehensive account of recent advances in the synthesis of imidazopyridines, assisted through transition-metal-catalyzed multicomponent reactions, C-H activation/functionalization and coupling reactions are highlighted in this review article. The basic illustration of this review comprises of schemes with concise account of explanatory text. The schemes depict the reaction conditions along with a quick look into the mechanism involved to render a deep understanding of the catalytic role. At some instances optimizations of certain features have been illustrated through tables, i.e., selectivity of catalyst, loading of the catalyst and percentage yield with different substrates. Each of the reported examples has been rigorously analyzed for reacting substrates, reaction conditions and transition metals used as the catalyst. This review will be helpful to the chemists in understanding the challenges associated with the reported methods as well as the future possibilities, both in the choice of substrates and catalysts. This review would be quite appealing to a wider range of organic chemists in academia and industrial R&D sectors working in the field of heterocyclic syntheses. In a nutshell, this review will be a guiding torch to envisage: (i) the role of various transition metals in the domain dedicated towards method development and (ii) for the modifications needed thereof in the R&D sector.

Abstract
In the title compound, C23H22BrNO, the cycloheptane ring adopts a chair conformation. The pyridine ring makes dihedral angles of 58.63 (15) and 8.27 (16)° with the benzene rings. The dihedral angle between the benzene rings is 56.68 (17)°. The crystal packing features C—Br⋯π interactions [Br⋯centroid distances= 3.813 (2) and 3.839 (2) Å; C—Br⋯centroid = 126.25 (10) and 138.31 (10)°, respectively, forming a three dimensional supramolecular architecture.

Abstract
The two fused five- and six-membered rings in the mol-ecule of the title compound, C(8)H(6)BrN(3)O(2), are approximately coplanar, the largest deviation from the mean plane being 0.011 (3) Å at the NH atom. The acetyl group is slightly twisted with respect to the imidazo[4,5-b]pyridine system, making a dihedral angle of 2.7 (2)°. In the crystal, adjacent mol-ecules are linked by inter-molecular N-H⋯N and C-H⋯O hydrogen bonds, forming infinite chains.

Abstract
The imidazopyridine fused-ring in the title compound, C(20)H(16)BrN(3)O, is planar (r.m.s. deviation = 0.011 Å). The phenyl rings of the benzyl substitutents twist away from the central five-membered ring in opposite directions; the rings are aligned at 61.3 (1) and 71.2 (1)° with respect to this ring.

Abstract
A versatile route to 40-membered library of 2-long alkyl chain substituted benzoazoles (1 and 2) and azole[4,5-b]pyridines (3 and 4) via microwave-assisted combinatorial synthesis was developed. The reactions were carried out in both monomode and multimode microwave oven. With the latter, all reactions were performed in high-throughput experimental settings consisting of an 8 x 5 combinatorial library designed to synthesize 40 compounds. Each step, from the addition of reagents to the recovery of final products, was automated. The microwave-assisted N-long chain alkylation reactions of 2-alkyl-1H-benzimidazole (1) and 2-alkyl-1H-benzimidazole[4,5-b] pyridines (3) were also studied.

Abstract
1-Aryl-5-amino-4-(cyanoformimidoyl)imidazoles 2 were reacted with malononitrile under mild experimental conditions and led to 3-aryl-5,7-diamino-6-cyano-3H-imidazo[4,5-b]pyridines 5, when the reaction was carried out in the presence of DBU, or to 3-aryl-5-amino-6,7-dicyano-3H-imidazo[4,5-b]pyridines 3, in its absence. Both reactions evolved from the adduct formed by nucleophilic attack of the malononitrile anion to the carbon of the cyanoformimidoyl substituent. A 5-amino-1-aryl-4-(1-amino-2,2-dicyanovinyl)imidazole 4 was isolated when this reaction was carried out in the presence of DBU. The structure of compound 4 was confirmed by spectroscopic methods and by reaction with triethyl orthoformate and with acetic anhydride, leading respectively to 9-aryl-6-(cyanomethylidene)purines 11 and 12. Imidazole 2b was also reacted with ethyl acetoacetate, a carbon acid with a pK(a) comparable to that of malononitrile. Similar reaction conditions were used and the product isolated was a 6-carbamoyl-1,2-dihydropurine 10, showing that a different mechanism was operating in this case.
