Abstract
This comprehensive review examines iturin, a cyclic lipopeptide originating from Bacillus subtilis and related bacteria. These compounds are structurally diverse and possess potent inhibitory effects against plant disease-causing bacteria and fungi. Notably, Iturin A exhibits strong antifungal properties and low toxicity, making it valuable for bio-pesticides and mycosis treatment. Emerging research reveals additional capabilities, including anticancer and hemolytic features. Iturin finds applications across industries. In food, iturin as a biosurfactant serves beyond surface tension reduction, enhancing emulsions and texture. Biosurfactants are significant in soil remediation, agriculture, wound healing, and sustainability. They also show promise in Microbial Enhanced Oil Recovery (MEOR) in the petroleum industry. The pharmaceutical and cosmetic industries recognize iturin's diverse properties, such as antibacterial, antifungal, antiviral, anticancer, and anti-obesity effects. Cosmetic applications span emulsification, anti-wrinkle, and antibacterial use. Understanding iturin's structure, synthesis, and applications gains importance as biosurfactant and lipopeptide research advances. This review focuses on emphasizing iturin's structural characteristics, production methods, biological effects, and applications across industries. It probes iturin's antibacterial, antifungal potential, antiviral efficacy, and cancer treatment capabilities. It explores diverse applications in food, petroleum, pharmaceuticals, and cosmetics, considering recent developments, challenges, and prospects.

Abstract
The relationship between lipopeptide and primary metabolite production by Bacillus spp. in solid-state fermentation (SSF) and submerged fermentation (SmF) was evaluated. Four wild-type strains and one mutant strain (unable to develop biofilm) were assessed in SSF and SmF, using a defined medium and polyurethane foam as inert support for SSF. Strain ATCC 21,332 in SSF presented the highest lipopeptide production. The wild-type strains revealed higher lipopeptide and biomass production and lower synthesis of primary metabolites in SSF than in SmF. However, the mutant strain showed a slightly higher production of primary metabolites in SSF than in SmF. Carbon balance analysis showed that the carbon flux was mainly directed to lipopeptides in SSF, whereas in SmF, it was directed to the production of primary metabolites and the carbon flux to lipopeptides is inversely related to primary metabolites in both types of cultures.

Abstract
Iturin, a metabolite produced by Bacillus subtilis, has a broad-spectrum antibacterial effect, and because they are secreted in the rhizosphere of plants, iturins are often mixed with many organic molecules. In recent years, people have improved their separation and purification methods but still cannot achieve simple and effective procedures, making Iturins an ideal biological control agent for insects and bacteria; commercial value still cannot be realized. With the in-depth studies of Iturins, its anti-cancer, hemolysis and other biological activities have gradually been discovered. This article reviews the branches of the Iturin family, structural features of these metabolite, separation and purification methods used for producing it, culture optimization, and various biological activities of the Iturin family, such as insecticidal, antibacterial, hemolytic and anticarcinogenic properties, among others have been summarized. Furthermore, this review revealed some commercial applications of Iturins and their relevance in research works. For example, in food packaging, clean water has good development potential.This can promote the commercial application of Iturins instead of other chemical and biological control agents that are environmentally friendly, pollution-free and have no side effects on humans. Furthermore, work documented anticancer, hemolytic and other biological activities of Iturin.

Abstract
Lipopeptides biosurfactants (BioS) are natural surface-active compounds produced by a variety of microorganisms. They have great interest in environmental, biomedical and agro-industrial fields. However their large-scale application and production is limited by the cost of culture media and the low yield of production. Therefore, the improvement of the production yields and the development of efficient and cost-effective bioprocess became of a great interest. In this aim, we applied the response surface method to optimize an economic BioS production by a newly isolated strain Bacillus mojavensis BI2 on date Juice called "Luegmi" as unique carbon and nitrogen source. Using a Box-Bhenken design, we studied the effect of three independent variables on lipopeptide production; Leugmi concentration, Na2HPO4 and incubation time. The results of this study showed that Leugmi concentration at 25%, Na2HPO4 at 0.1% and incubation time of 24 h were optimal conditions for BioS production, with a maximum Surface Tension (ST) decreasing capacity of 55% corresponding to 27 mN/m and an Oil Dispersing Activity (ODA) of 30 cm2 corresponding to a diameter of 6 cm. Preliminary characterization of the BioS produced on Luegmi by UV-Spectra and Thin Layer Chromatography showed its lipopeptide nature. Physic-chemical characterization of the produced lipopeptide on Leugmi showed its great surface activities and stabilities at different pH, temperature and salts concentration. The results of this study suggested that Leugmi, an agricultural byproducts can be used as a low-cost substrate to enhance the yield of lipopeptide BioS with great surface activities for potential environmental application.

Abstract
Surfactants are multipurpose products found in most sectors of contemporary industry. Their large-scale manufacturing has been mainly carried out using traditional chemical processes. Some of the chemical species involved in their production are considered hazardous and some industrial processes employing them categorised as "having potential negative impact on the environment". Biological surfactants have therefore been generally accepted worldwide as suitable sustainable greener alternatives. Biosurfactants exhibit the same functionalities of synthetic analogues while having the ability to synergize with other molecules improving performances; this strengthens the possibility of reaching different markets via innovative formulations. Recently, their use was suggested to help combat Covid-19. In this review, an analysis of recent bibliography is presented with descriptions, statistics, classifications, applications, advantages, and challenges; evincing the reasons why biosurfactants can be considered as the chemical specialities of the future. Finally, the uses of the solid-state fermentation as a production technology for biosurfactants is presented.

Abstract
Lipopeptides could help to overcome a large concern in agriculture: resistance against chemical pesticides. These molecules have activity against various phytopathogens and a potential to be transformed by genetic engineering. The exponential rise of pest resistances to different chemical pesticides and the global appeal of consumers for a sustainable agriculture and healthy nutrition have led to the search of new solutions for pest control. Furthermore, new laws require a different stance of producers. Based on that, bacteria of the genus Bacillus present a great agricultural potential, producing lipopeptides (LPs) that have high activity against insects, mites, nematodes, and/or phytopathogens that are harmful to plant cultures. Biopesticide activity can be found mainly in three families of Bacillus lipopeptides: surfactin, iturin, and fengycin. These molecules have an amphiphilic nature, interfering with biological membrane structures. Their antimicrobial properties include activity against bacteria, fungi, oomycetes, and viruses. Recent studies also highlight the ability of these compounds to stimulate defense mechanisms of plants and biofilm formation, which is a key factor for the successful colonization of biocontrol organisms. The use of molecular biology has also recently been researched for continuous advances and discoveries of new LPs, avoiding possible future problems of resistance against these molecules. As a consequence of the properties and possibilities of LPs, numerous studies and developments as well as the attention of large companies in the field is expected in the near future.

Abstract
Bacillus subtilis RB14 produces the lipopeptide antibiotic iturin A by submerged and biofilm fermentation. In this study, we optimized the conditions for iturin A production in a jar fermentor. The maximum yield of iturin A was 932 mg L-1 after 120 h. The surface tension of water decreased from 72.0 to 39.0 mN m-1 as the concentrations of C14 iturin A increased, indicating that C14 iturin A behaves as a surfactant in water. The critical micellar concentration obtained from the intersection of two fitted lines was 1.2 × 10-4 M. Moreover, the surface tension of water decreased as the length of the alkyl chain of iturin A increased.

Abstract
In recent years, substantial credibility in employing Solid-State Fermentation (SSF) technique has been witnessed owing to its numerous advantages over submerged fermentation (SmF). In spite of enormous advantages, true potential of SSF technology has not been fully realized at industrial scale. The lack of rational and scalable bioreactor designs backed by mathematical models and automated control system that could successfully address heterogeneity with respect to heat and mass, and also operate aseptically, remains the prime reason for it. As a result, there still exists vast scope in SSF bioreactor research and development to facilitate broad spectrum of biotechnological applications. The present article reviews state-of-the-art in SSF technology with focus on bioreactors that have been employed for bioprocess applications, in particular, enzyme production. Based on the mode of operation, bioreactors are divided into four categories with emphasis on design features, effect of operating conditions on productivity, applications and limitations. Selected modeling studies developed over the years, have been revised and presented in problem specific manner in order to address the limitations. Some interesting designs including few recent ones that have been proposed and/or employed at pilot and industrial levels are discussed in more detail.

Abstract
The strain Bacillus iso 1 co-produces the lipopeptide iturin A and biopolymer poly-γ-glutamic acid (γ-PGA) in solid-state fermentation of substrate consisting of soybean meal, wheat bran with rice husks as an inert support. The effects of pressure drop, oxygen consumption, medium permeability and temperature profile were studied in an aerated packed bed bioreactor to produce iturin A, diameter of which was 50 mm and bed height 300 mm. The highest concentrations of iturin A and γ-PGA were 5.58 and 3.58 g/kg-dry substrate, respectively, at 0.4 L/min after 96 h of fermentation. The low oxygen uptake rates, being 23.34 and 22.56 mg O2/kg-dry solid substrate for each air flow rate tested generated 5.75 W/kg-dry substrate that increased the fermentation temperature at 3.7 °C. The highest pressure drop was 561 Pa/m at 0.8 L/min in 24 h. This is the highest concentration of iturin A produced to date in an aerated packed bed bioreactor in solid-state fermentation. The results can be useful to design strategies to scale-up process of iturin A in aerated packed bed bioreactors. Low concentration of γ-PGA affected seriously pressure drop, decreasing the viability of the process due to generation of huge pressure gradients with volumetric air flow rates. Also, the low oxygenation favored the iturin A production due to the reduction of free void by γ-PGA production, and finally, the low oxygen consumption generated low metabolic heat. The results show that it must control the pressure gradients to scale-up the process of iturin A production.
