Abstract
PURPOSE This retrospective study aims to describe anatomical parameters of omphaloceles and to analyze their association with anatomical, genetic, or syndromic malformations. METHODS Cases were selected from digital records of two university centers, a certified regional registry and personal records. Patients from 1998 to 2018 with omphalocele and live birth (LB), termination of pregnancy due to fetal anomaly (TOPFA) and fetal death (FD) were included. Cases born outside Western Switzerland and/or with upper or lower coelosomy were excluded. RESULTS We analyzed 162 cases with the following distribution: 57 (35%) LB, 91 (56%) TOPFA and 14 (9%) FD. TOPFA was significantly more frequently performed in cases with non-isolated omphalocele, i.e., omphaloceles with associated major malformations (especially cardiovascular and genitourinary), genetic/chromosomal anomalies, or syndromes. For LB, associated anatomical malformations, genetic or chromosomal anomalies were not significantly associated with the size of the omphalocele or the liver involvement. CONCLUSIONS The proportion of cases resulting in TOPFA was higher among fetuses with major malformations, genetic or chromosomal anomalies. Despite the large size of this cohort, and in contrary to previous publications, the size of the omphalocele and/or liver involvement does not allow for conclusions regarding the presence or number of associated malformations, genetic or chromosomal anomalies.

Abstract
BACKGROUND Patients with omphalocele, a midline abdominal wall defect at the umbilical cord base, have a low survival rate. However, the long-term outcomes of fetuses with prenatally diagnosed omphalocele have scarcely been studied. Therefore, we investigated the ultrasonographic features, genetic characteristics, and maternal and fetal outcomes of fetuses with omphalocele and provided a reference for the perinatal management of such cases. METHODS A total of 120 pregnant females with fetal omphalocele were diagnosed using prenatal ultrasonography at the Fujian Provincial Maternity and Child Health Hospital from January 2015 to March 2022. Amniotic fluid or cord blood samples were drawn at different gestational weeks for routine karyotype analysis, chromosomal microarray analysis (CMA) detection, and whole exome sequencing (WES). The maternal and fetal outcomes were followed up. RESULTS Among the 120 fetuses, 27 were diagnosed with isolated omphalocele and 93 with nonisolated omphalocele using prenatal ultrasonography. Cardiac anomalies were the most observed cause in 17 fetuses. Routine karyotyping and CMA were performed on 35 patients, and chromosomal abnormalities were observed in five patients, trisomy 18 in three, trisomy 13 in one, and chromosome 8-11 translocation in one patient; all were non-isolated omphalocele cases. Six nonisolated cases had normal CMA results and conventional karyotype tests, and further WES examination revealed one pathogenic variant and two suspected pathogenic variants. Of the 120 fetuses, 112 were successfully followed up. Eighty of the 112 patients requested pregnancy termination. Seven of the cases died in utero. A 72% 1-year survival rate was observed from the successful 25 live births. CONCLUSION The prognosis of fetuses with nonisolated omphalocele varies greatly, and individualized analysis should be performed to determine fetal retention carefully. Routine karyotyping with CMA testing should be provided for fetuses with omphalocele. WES is an option if karyotype and CMA tests are normal. If the fetal karyotype is normal and no associated abnormalities are observed, fetuses with omphalocele could have a high survival rate, and most will have a good prognosis.

Abstract
OBJECTIVES To analyse additional structural and genetic anomalies in fetuses with acrania/exencephaly/anencephaly sequence (AEAS). METHODS A retrospective analysis of 139 fetuses with AEAS diagnosed between 2006 and 2020 in a single tertiary referral ultrasound department. RESULTS The median gestational age at diagnosis decreased from 15 weeks in 2006 to 13 weeks in 2020 (- 0.21 per each year; p = 0.009). In 103 fetuses, the defects were limited to the neural tube (NTD) (74.1%), in 36 fetuses (25.9%), there were additional structural non-NTD anomalies. The most common were ventral body wall defects present in 17.8% (23/139), followed by anomalies of the limbs (7.2%; 10/139), face (6.5%; 9/139) and heart (6.5%; 9/139). Genetic anomalies were diagnosed in 7 of the 74 conclusive results (9.5%; 7/74; trisomy 18, n = 5; triploidy, n = 1; duplication of Xq, n = 1). In univariate logistic regression models, male sex, limb anomalies and ventral body wall defects significantly increased the risk of genetic anomalies (OR 12.3; p = 0.024; OR 16.5; p = 0.002 and OR 10.4; p = 0.009, respectively). CONCLUSIONS A significant number of fetuses with AEAS have additional structural non-NTD anomalies, which are mostly consistent with limb body wall complex. Genetic abnormalities are diagnosed in almost 10% of affected fetuses and trisomy 18 is the most common aberration. Factors that significantly increased the odds of genetic anomalies in fetuses with AEAS comprise male sex, limb anomalies and ventral body wall defects.

Abstract
BACKGROUND Omphalocele and gastroschisis are the two most common congenital abdominal wall defects; however, no previous study has focused on gastrointestinal and hepatobiliary tract malformations in these two conditions. This study aimed to investigate the demographic characteristics, coexisting congenital gastrointestinal and hepatobiliary tract anomalies, hospital course, and outcomes of patients with gastroschisis and omphalocele. METHODS This is retrospective chart review of all patients admitted to one tertiary medical center in Taiwan between January 1, 2000 and June 30, 2020 with a diagnosis of gastroschisis or omphalocele. The medical records were reviewed to obtain demographic data regarding coexisting gastrointestinal and hepatobiliary tract anomalies and outcomes. RESULTS Of the 51 patients included, 21 had gastroschisis and 30 had omphalocele. Gastroschisis was associated with a significantly younger maternal age and a higher incidence of small for gestational age. Of the 30 patients with omphalocele, twelve had associated gastrointestinal and hepatobiliary anomalies. Seven of the 21 patients with gastroschisis had gastrointestinal anomalies, and none had hepatobiliary anomalies. Among the omphalocele patients, three (10%) had documented malrotation, and one developed midgut volvulus. Among gastroschisis patients, four patients (19%) had malrotation, and two developed midgut volvulus. There were no statistically significant differences in postoperative complications or mortality rates between those with and without gastrointestinal/hepatobiliary tract anomalies. CONCLUSION The diversity of coexisting gastrointestinal and hepatobiliary tract anomalies is higher in the omphalocele than in gastroschisis. In addition, we demonstrate that patients with gastroschisis or omphalocele have a higher rate of intestinal malrotation and midgut volvulus.

Abstract
OBJECTIVES The aim of this study is to share our experience in the prenatal diagnosis of omphalocele by karyotyping, chromosomal microarray analysis (CMA) and whole exome sequencing (WES). METHODS In this retrospective study, 81 cases of omphalocele were identified from 2015 to 2020. Associated anomalies and prenatal diagnosis based on karyotyping, CMA and WES were analysed. RESULTS Fifty-eight (71.6%) of the 81 foetuses had other ultrasound anomalies. Giant omphalocele was present in 11 cases (13.6%) and small omphalocele was present in 70 cases (86.4%). Chromosomal abnormalities were found in 24 foetuses (29.6%, 24/81), the most common of which were trisomy 18 (58.8%, 11/24) and trisomy 13 (29.2%, 7/24). Compared to isolated omphalocele, non-isolated omphalocele was accompanied by an increased prevalence of chromosomal abnormalities (4.3% (1/23) vs. 39.7% (23/58), χ2 = 8.226, p = .004). All chromosomal abnormalities were found in small omphalocele. Aside from aneuploidy, CMA showed one pathogenic copy number variants (CNVs) for a detection rate of 1.2%, one variants of unknown significance (VOUS) and one instance of loss of heterozygosity (LOH). WES was performed on 3 non-isolated cases, and one was found to have pathogenic variants. CONCLUSIONS The most common genetic cause of omphalocele is aneuploidy and the prevalence of chromosomal abnormalities is increased with non-isolated and small omphalocele. CMA and WES can be useful for providing further genetic information to assist in prenatal counselling and pregnancy management.

Abstract
Abstract
Abdominal wall defects (AWDs) represent a wide spectrum of congenital anomalies which are characterized by a herniation of abdominal organs through a pathologic opening in the abdominal region. The author describes a 29-year-old pregnant woman who was prenatally found to have a living female fetus with a giant omphalocele and a spinal deformation in the lumbosacral region. An evisceration of the abdominal contents into the amnionic cavity was visible. Based on USG findings the limb-body wall complex was suggested. An amniocentesis was performed and a genetic testing identified a chromosome 17q23.1–q23.2 duplication. As the fetal anomaly was considered incompatible with life, a medical termination of the pregnancy was carried out. Postmortem examination of the fetus revealed a huge abdominoschisis with a complete evisceration of the liver, stomach, small and large intestines, spleen, and the right kidney. A severe left-sided scoliosis deformity of the spine with crooked trunk was evident. The gross findings shared the features of omphalocele and limb-body wall complex with no postnatal life expectancy. Most fetal AWDs have poor prognosis. The pathology of these conditions differ greatly and require specific prenatal evaluation and pregnancy management for each entity. Accurate assessment of AWDs will allow the identification of isolated forms with better clinical outcomes compared to associated multiple malformations with chromosomal anomalies or genetic syndromes.

Abstract
Maternal serum alpha-fetoprotein is a valuable laboratory test used in pregnant women as an indicator to detect certain clinical abnormalities. These can be grouped into four main categories: fetal factors, pregnancy complications, placental abnormalities, and maternal factors. Imaging is an invaluable tool to investigate the various etiologies leading to altered maternal serum alpha-fetoprotein. By reading this article, the radiologist, sonologist, or other health care practitioner should be able to define the probable pathology leading to the laboratory detected abnormal maternal serum levels, thus helping the clinician to appropriately manage the pregnancy and counsel the patient.

METHODS We identified a population-based retrospective cohort of neonates and fetuses with selected major birth defects and without known or strongly suspected chromosomal or single-gene disorders from active birth defects surveillance programs in nine states. Abstracted medical records were reviewed by clinical geneticists to confirm and classify all birth defects and birth defect patterns. We estimated risks of stillbirth specific to birth defects among pregnancies overall and among those with isolated birth defects; potential bias owing to elective termination was quantified. RESULTS Of 19,170 eligible neonates and fetuses with birth defects, 17,224 were liveborn, 852 stillborn, and 672 electively terminated. Overall, stillbirth risks ranged from 11 per 1,000 fetuses with bladder exstrophy (95% CI 0-57) to 490 per 1,000 fetuses with limb-body-wall complex (95% CI 368-623). Among those with isolated birth defects not affecting major vital organs, elevated risks (per 1,000 fetuses) were observed for cleft lip with cleft palate (10; 95% CI 7-15), transverse limb deficiencies (26; 95% CI 16-39), longitudinal limb deficiencies (11; 95% CI 3-28), and limb defects due to amniotic bands (110; 95% CI 68-171). Quantified bias analysis suggests that failure to account for terminations may lead to up to fourfold underestimation of the observed risks of stillbirth for sacral agenesis (13/1,000; 95% CI 2-47), isolated spina bifida (24/1,000; 95% CI 17-34), and holoprosencephaly (30/1,000; 95% CI 10-68). CONCLUSION Birth defect-specific stillbirth risk was high compared with the U.S. stillbirth risk (6/1,000 fetuses), even for isolated cases of oral clefts and limb defects; elective termination may appreciably bias some estimates. These data can inform clinical care and counseling after prenatal diagnosis.

Abstract
Omphalocele is rarely complicated by umbilical cord cysts. In our case, an umbilical cord cyst and fetal ascites were detected at 26 weeks' gestation in a fetus with trisomy 13. This changed to omphalocele with subsequently absorbed fetal ascites at 35 weeks' gestation. We propose two hypotheses. The abdominal wall may have been physically pierced or an omphalocele might have preexisted, and the intestinal tract in the hernia sac was pushed by fetal ascites.

Abstract
AbstractOmphalocele is one of the most common congenital defects in the anterior abdominal wall. The malformation is associated with various pathologies especially with chromosomal disorders. The developmental defect is observed in Congolese hospitals, but risk factors are not well precised on the published case reports, which are more often focused on management. We aim in this paper to make a review on the condition, insisting on the risk factors of omphaloceles mainly of those of genetic origins.

Abstract
Objective: To evaluate whether cell-free DNA (cfDNA) testing could replace an invasive procedure in pregnancies with isolated fetal omphalocele.Study design: This was a retrospective study of all pregnancies with sonographically detected fetal omphalocele at three tertiary referral centers between 2012 and 2016. Invasive diagnostic testing was performed for genetic investigations using conventional karyotyping or chromosomal microarray. cfDNA testing was assumed to be offered to patients with isolated fetal omphalocele for screening for common aneuploidies.Results: Invasive genetic testing was performed in a total of 107 pregnancies with a fetal omphalocele. Abnormal karyotype was found in 66% (31/47) of nonisolated omphalocele cases and in 1.7% (1/60) of isolated omphalocele cases. No pathogenic copy number variations (CNVs) were detected in 59 cases with isolated omphalocele and normal karyotype. If cfDNA screening was used in cases with isolated omphalocele, the affected fetus with trisomy 18 would be detected, and no rare chromosomal aberrations or submicroscopic pathogenic CNVs would be missed.Conclusions: cfDNA testing could be recommended for prenatal genetic evaluation in pregnancies with isolated fetal omphalocele after thorough pretest counseling.Key Message: A very low percentage of aneuploidies and rare chromosomal/subchromosomal abnormalities are found in prenatal cases of isolated omphalocele. It seems that for pregnancies with isolated omphalocele, cfDNA testing represents an alternative for patients who choose to continue the pregnancies and are reluctant to undertake invasive diagnostic testing.

Abstract
Background Omphalocele is a rare congenital abdominal wall defect. It is frequently associated with genetic abnormality and other congenital anomalies, although isolated omphalocele cases do exist. Data have shown that omphalocele with co-occurring genetic abnormality has worse prognosis than isolated omphalocele. Chromosomal analysis by a conventional technique such as karyotyping can only detect aneuploidy and large segmental duplication or deletion. Newer techniques such as high-resolution microarray analysis allow for the study of alterations in chromosomal segments that are less than 5 Mb in length; this has led to identification of critical region and genes in the pathogenesis of omphalocele. Case Presentation The current study is the initial report of a newborn male with a 15q23 gain and a giant omphalocele. High-resolution chromosomal microarray analysis identified this gain of copy number spanned 676 kb, involving almost the entire NOX5 gene (except for exon 1 of the longer transcript), the entirety of the EWSAT1, GLCE, PAQR5, KIF23, RPLP1, and DRAIC genes and exons 1-3 of the PCAT29 gene. Conclusion To date, this is the first report of an associated 15q23 gain in a case with omphalocele. Interestingly, Giancarlo Ghiselli and Steven A Farber have reported that GLCE knockdown impairs abdominal wall closure in zebrafish. We also identified GLCE gene alteration in our case. This highlights the importance of GLCE in abdominal wall development. Further study of the function of GLCE and other genes might lead to a better understanding of the molecular mechanism of omphalocele.

Abstract
OBJECTIVE We describe a prenatal ultrasonography diagnosis of omphalocele and symbrachydactyly in a fetus and review the literature on prenatal diagnosis of 9p terminal chromosomal deletions. CASE REPORT A 31-year-old woman (gravida 3, para 1) was referred for genetic counseling because a fetal omphalocele had been detected. Prenatal ultrasonography at 17+ weeks of gestational age revealed a singleton female fetus with biometry equivalent to 18 weeks with an omphalocele. In addition, symbrachydactyly was also noted in the right arm; the wrist bones as well as the metacarpals were missing. A chromosomal study was arranged for a congenital anomaly involving omphalocele. We obtained Giemsa-banded chromosomes from fetal tissue cells, and an abnormal male karyotype with a terminal deletion of the short arm of chromosome 9 at band 9p13 was noted. After delivery, the fetus showed omphalocele, symbrachydactyly, trigonocephaly, sex reversal, a long philtrum, low-set ears, telecanthus, and a frontal prominence. CONCLUSION Prenatal diagnosis of abnormal ultrasound findings with omphalocele and symbrachydactyly should include the differential diagnosis of a chromosome 9p deletion.

Abstract
We present prenatal diagnosis and array comparative genomic hybridization characterization of 3q26.31-q29 duplication and 9q34.3 microdeletion in a fetus with omphalocele, ventricular septal defect, increased nuchal translucency, abnormal first-trimester maternal screening and facial dysmorphism with distinct features of the 3q duplication syndrome and Kleefstra syndrome. The 26.61-Mb duplication of 3q26.31-q29 encompasses EPHB3, CLDN1 and CLDN16, and the 972-kb deletion of 9q34.3 encompasses EHMT1. We review the literature of partial trisomy 3q associated with omphalocele and discuss the genotype-phenotype correlation in this case.

Abstract
A routine pregnancy ultrasound examination of a 30-yr-old, multiparous, common bottlenose dolphin, Tursiops truncatus, detected an approximately 16-wk (gestational age) fetus with an omphalocele, an abdominal wall defect at the base of the umbilical cord. Throughout the pregnancy, ultrasound allowed for identification of the omphalocele contents, which included a portion of the liver and intestinal loops. The maximum diameter of the omphalocele was 11.4 cm at an estimated 51-wk gestation. Color Doppler was utilized to study the blood flow within the omphalocele as well as diagnose an associated anomaly of the umbilical cord, which contained three vessels instead of four. Gross necropsy and histopathology confirmed the ultrasound diagnoses. This is the first report of an omphalocele in a T. truncatus fetus, and the first report of a fetal and umbilical cord anomaly diagnosed with ultrasound in a cetacean.

Abstract
BACKGROUND Omphalocele is a congenital birth defect characterised by the presence of internal organs located outside of the ventral abdominal wall. The purpose of this study was to identify the underlying genetic mechanisms of a large autosomal dominant Caucasian family with omphalocele. METHODS AND FINDINGS A genetic linkage study was conducted in a large family with an autosomal dominant transmission of an omphalocele using a genome-wide single nucleotide polymorphism (SNP) array. The analysis revealed significant evidence of linkage (non-parametric NPL = 6.93, p=0.0001; parametric logarithm of odds (LOD) = 2.70 under a fully penetrant dominant model) at chromosome band 1p31.3. Haplotype analysis narrowed the locus to a 2.74 Mb region between markers rs2886770 (63014807 bp) and rs1343981 (65757349 bp). Molecular characterisation of this interval using array comparative genomic hybridisation followed by quantitative microsphere hybridisation analysis revealed a 710 kb duplication located at 63.5-64.2 Mb. All affected individuals who had an omphalocele and shared the haplotype were positive for this duplicated region, while the duplication was absent from all normal individuals of this family. Multipoint linkage analysis using the duplication as a marker yielded a maximum LOD score of 3.2 at 1p31.3 under a dominant model. The 710 kb duplication at 1p31.3 band contains seven known genes including FOXD3, ALG6, ITGB3BP, KIAA1799, DLEU2L, PGM1, and the proximal portion of ROR1. Importantly, this duplication is absent from the database of genomic variants. CONCLUSIONS The present study suggests that development of an omphalocele in this family is controlled by overexpression of one or more genes in the duplicated region. To the authors' knowledge, this is the first reported association of an inherited omphalocele condition with a chromosomal rearrangement.

Abstract
The purpose of this study was to examine changes in the use of cytogenetic testing and identification of chromosomal abnormalities among pregnancies and children with birth defects. Utilizing data from 1968 to 2005 from the Metropolitan Atlanta Congenital Defects Program, we analyzed trends in the frequency and timing (prenatal or postnatal) of cytogenetic testing and the prevalence of recognized chromosome abnormalities among pregnancies and children with birth defects (n = 51,424). Cytogenetic testing of pregnancies and children with birth defects increased from 7.2% in 1968 to 25.0% in 2005, as did the identification of chromosomal abnormalities (2.2% in 1968 to 6.8% in 2005). The use of prenatal cytogenetic testing decreased from 1996 to 2005 among women aged ≥35 years. Identification of chromosomal abnormalities in pregnancies and children with birth defects increased from 1968 to 2005, possibly due to increased testing, improved diagnostic techniques, or increasing maternal age. The decline in prenatal cytogenetic testing observed among mothers aged ≥35 years may be related to the availability of improved prenatal screening techniques, resulting in a reduction in the utilization of invasive diagnostic tests.

Folate and vitamin B12-related genes and risk for omphalocele. Hum Genet 2011; 131:739-46. Abstract
Both taking folic acid-containing vitamins around conception and consuming food fortified with folic acid have been reported to reduce omphalocele rates. Genetic factors are etiologically important in omphalocele as well; our pilot study showed a relationship with the folate metabolic enzyme gene methylenetetrahydrofolate reductase (MTHFR). We studied 169 non-aneuploid omphalocele cases and 761 unaffected, matched controls from all New York State births occurring between 1998 and 2005 to look for associations with single nucleotide polymorphisms (SNPs) known to be important in folate, vitamin B12, or choline metabolism. In the total study population, variants in the transcobalamin receptor gene (TCblR), rs2232775 (p.Q8R), and the MTHFR gene, rs1801131 (c.1298A>C), were significantly associated with omphalocele. In African-Americans, significant associations were found with SNPs in genes for the vitamin B12 transporter (TCN2) and the vitamin B12 receptor (TCblR). A SNP in the homocysteine-related gene, betaine-homocysteine S-methyltransferase (BHMT), rs3733890 (p.R239Q), was significantly associated with omphalocele in both African-Americans and Asians. Only the TCblR association in the total population remained statistically significant if Bonferroni correction was applied. The finding that transcobalamin receptor (TCblR) and transporter (TCN2) SNPs and a BHMT SNP were associated with omphalocele suggests that disruption of methylation reactions, in which folate, vitamin B12, and homocysteine play critical parts, may be a risk factor for omphalocele. Our data, if confirmed, suggest that supplements containing both folic acid and vitamin B12 may be beneficial in preventing omphaloceles.

Abstract
Several cases of mos 46,X,der(Y)t(Y;1)(q12;q21)/46,XY with multiple anomalies have been reported. I report on an additional case of a male fetus with a mosaic male karyotype mos 46,X,der(Y)t(Y;1)(q12;q21)[31]/46,XY[21] and multiple anomalies that included "teardrop"-shaped head with a triangular face, a short-nasal bridge with upturned nose, microretrognathia, microtia, kyphoscoliosis, oligodactyly, syndactyly, joint contractures, CNS malformation, omphalocele, diaphragmatic hernia, cardiac anomaly, and urogenital malformation. The findings together suggest a recurrent and recognizable syndrome and argue for using tissues such as skin or cartilage or amniotic fluid, instead of cord blood, for postmortem karyotyping in order to avoid missing mosaicism as a potential cause of multiple congenital anomalies.

Abstract
Trisomy 3q is a very rarely reported chromosomal disorder. Duplication of part of the long arm of human chromosome 3 causes a distinct and severe syndrome that leads to multiple congenital abnormalities. A 27 year-old pregnant woman was admitted to our clinic at 17 weeks of gestation. Prenatal sonography identified a fetus with an omphalocele that contained the liver and bowel, mild ventriculomegaly and polyhydramnios. Amniocentesis revealed the karyotype of 46, XY, der (3) (3qter→3q21: : 3pter→3qter). The pregnancy was subsequently terminated. Postnatally, the proband showed midfacial hypoplasia, micrognathia, hypoplastic 12th ribs, omphalocele and prominent heels. We reported this partial trisomy 3q case because he had less marked malformations compared to other reported cases and also different features such as an omphalocele and hypoplastic 12th rib which have not been described previously in an isolated Trisomy 3q case with this karyotype.

Abstract
PURPOSE The aim of this investigation was to establish the association of left-sided gallbladder and right-sided ligamentum teres hepatis with exomphalos and to clarify the portal venous anomaly associated with right-sided ligamentum teres. METHODS Three male infants with exomphalos major associated with left-sided gallbladder and right-sided ligamentum teres hepatis were identified during a retrospective study of exomphalos cases (n = 35) in which exomphalos major comprised 18 cases over 19 years. RESULTS Three infants with exomphalos major (8.6%) had a left-sided gallbladder and right-sided ligamentum teres hepatis. One male infant survived. Computed tomography showed that there is anomalous intrahepatic portal venous branching associated with right-sided ligamentum teres hepatis. The first branch of the portal vein ran to the right posterior segment, and then the portal vein formed a trunk of the left portal vein and right anterior portal veins. The latter vein formed the umbilical segment of the portal vein and finally joined the ligamentum teres hepatis. The inferior vena cava was on the left side below the kidney and crossed to the right side at the level of the kidney. CONCLUSIONS Left-sided gallbladder with right-sided ligamentum teres hepatis may not be such a rare associated anomaly in infants with exomphalos. However, there are no reports describing this anomaly with exomphalos in the English medical literature. We believe this is the first report. As long-term survival after repair of exomphalos is increasing, perhaps some of the survivors may develop liver disease which requires liver resection later in life. Recognition of this anomalous relationship with exomphalos is clinically important because it is associated with abnormal intrahepatic portal venous branching and intraabdominal vascular anomalies.
