Abstract
INTRODUCTION Currently, data on treatment, outcome, and prognostic factors in children with tuberculous meningitis (TBM) in Europe are limited. To date, most existing data on TBM originate from adult studies, or studies conducted in low-resource settings. METHODS Multicentre, retrospective study involving 27 paediatric healthcare institutions in nine European countries via an established paediatric TB research network, before and after the 2014 revision of WHO dosing recommendations. RESULTS Of 118 children, 39 (33.1%) had TBM grade 1, 68 (57.6%) grade 2 and 11 (9.3%) grade 3. Fifty-eight (49.1%) children received a standard four-drug treatment regimen; other commonly used drugs included streptomycin, prothionamide, and amikacin. Almost half of the patients (48.3%; 56/116) were admitted to intensive care unit, with a median stay of 10 (IQR 4.5-21.0) days. Of 104 children with complete outcome data, 9.6% (10/104) died, and only 47.1% (49/104) recovered fully. Main long-term sequelae included spasticity of one or more limbs and developmental delay both in 19.2% (20/104), and seizure disorder in 17.3% (18/104). Multivariate regression analyses identified microbiological confirmation of TBM, the need for neurosurgical intervention and mechanical ventilation as risk factors for unfavourable outcome. DISCUSSION There was considerable heterogeneity in the use of TB drugs in this cohort. Despite few children presenting with advanced disease and the study being conducted in a high-resource setting, morbidity and mortality were high. Several risk factors for poor outcome were identified, which may aid prognostic predictions in children with TBM in the future.

Abstract
INTRODUCTION Meningitis is the most severe manifestation of tuberculosis, resulting in death or disability in over 50% of those affected, with even higher morbidity and mortality among patients with HIV or drug resistance. Antimicrobial treatment of Tuberculous meningitis (TBM) is similar to treatment of pulmonary tuberculosis, although some drugs show poor central nervous system penetration. Therefore, intensification of antibiotic treatment may improve TBM treatment outcomes. Areas covered: In this review, we address three main areas: available data for old and new anti-tuberculous agents; intensified treatment in specific patient groups like HIV co-infection, drug-resistance, and children; and optimal research strategies. Expert commentary: There is good evidence from preclinical, clinical, and modeling studies to support the use of high-dose rifampicin in TBM, likely to be at least 30 mg/kg. Higher dose isoniazid could be beneficial, especially in rapid acetylators. The role of other first and second line drugs is unclear, but observational data suggest that linezolid, which has good brain penetration, may be beneficial. We advocate the use of molecular pharmacological approaches, physiologically based pharmacokinetic modeling and pharmacokinetic-pharmacodynamic studies to define optimal regimens to be tested in clinical trials. Exciting data from recent studies hold promise for improved regimens and better clinical outcomes in future.

Abstract
Primary angiitis of the central nervous system (PACNS) represents a rare
inflammatory disease affecting the brain and spinal cord. Stroke,
encephalopathy, headache and seizures are major clinical manifestations. The
diagnosis of PACNS is based on the combination of clinical presentation, imaging
findings (magnetic resonance imaging and angiography), brain biopsy, and
laboratory and cerebral spinal fluid (CSF) values. PACNS can either be confirmed
by magnetic resonance angiography (MRA)/conventional angiography or tissue
biopsy showing the presence of typical histopathological patterns.
Identification of PACNS mimics is often challenging in clinical practice, but
crucial to avoid far-reaching treatment decisions. In view of the severity of
the disease, with considerable morbidity and mortality, early recognition and
treatment initiation is necessary. Due to the rareness and heterogeneity of the
disease, there is a lack of randomized data on treatment strategies.
Retrospective studies suggest the combined administration of cyclophosphamide
and glucocorticoids as induction therapy. Immunosuppressants such as
azathioprine, methotrexate or mycophenolate mofetil are often applied for
maintenance therapy. In addition, the beneficial effects of two biological
agents (anti-CD20 monoclonal antibody rituximab and tumour necrosis factor-α
blocker) have been reported. Nevertheless, diagnosis and treatment is still a
clinical challenge, and further insights into the immunopathogenesis of PACNS
are required to improve the diagnosis and management of patients. The present
review provides a comprehensive overview of diagnostics, differential diagnoses,
and therapeutic approaches of adult PACNS.

Abstract
A previously healthy 6-month-old Asian girl presented to the emergency department (ED) after 7 to 10 days of fever of 101 to 102°F, cough, and intermittent vomiting. Pneumonia was diagnosed and successfully treated, and the patient was discharged. She returned to the ED after her mother noticed mild facial asymmetry, left upper extremity weakness, and an episode of jerkiness. The mother then revealed that both she and the child's maternal grandmother, who also lived with the patient, had suffered chronic coughs in recent months. The mother's previous chest radiograph showed pulmonary tuberculosis. The patient's magnetic resonance imaging findings were consistent with a cerebrovascular event. Positive results on cerebrospinal fluid analysis, the mother's suspicious tuberculosis-like history, and the patient's clinical symptoms pointed heavily toward a diagnosis of tuberculous meningitis. A 4-drug antituberculosis regimen with dexamethasone was instituted and scheduled to continue for 12 months. However, the patient returned to the ED 2 months later after developing an obstructive hydrocephalus.

Abstract
OBJECTIVES To describe the epidemiology and factors associated with pediatric central nervous system (CNS) tuberculosis (TB) in California from 1993 to 2011. METHODS We analyzed California TB registry data for persons aged ≤18 years, comparing CNS TB cases versus non-CNS TB cases reported from 1993 to 2011. Factors associated with CNS TB and TB deaths were identified by using multivariate logistic regression. RESULTS A total of 200 CNS TB cases were reported. Compared with non-CNS TB case patients, CNS TB case patients were more likely to be aged <5 years (72.0% vs 43.6%; odds ratio [OR]: 3.8 [95% confidence interval (CI): 2.4-5.9]), US-born (82.0% vs 58.2%; OR: 3.3 [CI: 2.3-4.7]), and Hispanic (75.0% vs 63.2%; OR: 1.7 [CI: 1.3-2.4]). Among US-born CNS TB case patients (during 2010-2011), 76.5% had a foreign-born parent. Tuberculin skin test results were negative in 38.2% of 170 CNS TB cases tested. In multivariate analysis, age <5 years (adjusted odds ratio [aOR]: 3.3 [CI: 2.0-5.4]), US birth (aOR: 1.8 [CI 1.2-2.7]), and Hispanic ethnicity (aOR: 1.5 [CI: 1.1-2.1]) were associated with an increased risk of developing CNS TB. For deaths, CNS TB (aOR: 3.8 [CI: 1.4-9.9]) and culture positivity (aOR: 6.2 [CI: 2.2-17.3]) were associated with increased risk of death, whereas tuberculin skin test positivity (aOR: 0.1 [CI: 0.04-0.2]) was associated with decreased risk. CONCLUSIONS Subsets of children are at increased risk for CNS TB in California and may benefit from additional prevention efforts.

Abstract
Background A delay in the diagnosis and treatment of tuberculosis meningitis (TBM) may lead to increased mortality and morbidity. The aim of this study was to describe the clinical, radiological and laboratory findings of TBM on a cohort of 185 pediatric patients at a single centre over a 10 year period and to investigate relationship between the stage of the disease. Methods The hospital records of 185 TBM children that presented to the Pediatric Clinics of Dicle University Hospital were retrospectively evaluated. The age, gender, family history of tuberculosis, result of Mantoux skin test, status of BCG vaccination, stage of TBM at hospitalization, and clinical, laboratory and radiological features were recorded. Clinical staging of TBM was defined as follows: Stage I, no focal neurological findings and Glasgow Coma Scale (GCS) score 15; Stage II, GCS 15 presenting with focal neurological deficit or all the patients with GCS 10–14; Stage III, all the patients with GCS < 10. Relationships between results and stages of TBM were investigated. Results The mean age of the patients was 53.5 ± 44.9 months (4 months–18 years). 121 (65.4 %) of the patients were male and 64 (34.6 %) female. Family history of tuberculosis was defined in 62 (33.5 %) patients. Forty five (24.3 %) children had BCG vaccination scar. Mantoux skin test was interpreted as positive in 35 (18.9 %) patients. Sixty-eight (36.8 %) children were at stage I TBM, 57 (30.8 %) at stage II and 60 (32.4 %) were at stage III on admission. Mean duration of hospitalization was 23.9 ± 14.1 days. Totally, 90 patients (48.6 %) had abnormal chest X-ray findings (parenchymal infiltration in 46 (24.9 %), mediastinal lymphadenopathy in 36 (19.5 %), miliary opacities in 25 (13.5 %), pleural effusion in 2 (1.1 %), and atelectasis in 2 (1.1 %) patients). One hundred sixty seven (90.3 %) patients had hydrocephalus in cranial computerized tomography. There were 24 (13.0 %) patients with positive culture for Mycobacterium tuberculosis and 3 (1.6 %) patients with positive acid-fast bacilli in cerebrospinal fluid. Overall mortality rate was 24 (13.0 %). Among the findings; patients at Stage III had less frequent positive chest X-ray abnormality, miliary opacities and BCG vaccination scar when compared with patients at Stage I and II (p = 0,005; p = 0,007, p = 0.020, respectively). Conclusions Children with TBM and positive chest X-ray findings at hospital admission were more frequently diagnosed at Stage I, and BCG vaccination might be protective from the Stage III of the disease.

Abstract
BACKGROUND As most national tuberculosis programmes (NTPs) focus on adult tuberculosis (TB), NTP providers may not appreciate differences in the pathophysiology and presentation of childhood TB. OBJECTIVES This study aimed to identify strengths and weaknesses in knowledge of childhood TB among the 326 NTP providers in Lima Ciudad and Lima Este--two of the Peruvian capital's four health districts. METHODS 310 providers--103 physicians, 106 nurses, 101 nursing technicians--accepted personal invitations to complete self-administered surveys, which included 14 childhood TB questions grouped into five sections: transmission, symptoms, diagnosis, prevention and treatment. Physicians were asked ten additional questions targeting their NTP diagnostic and management responsibilities. RESULTS All three groups scored 97-99% on the transmission section and 83-85% on the treatment section; however, no group scored above 66% on any other section. Fewer than 50% of nurses and technicians recognised young children's high risk of extrapulmonary TB, extrapulmonary TB symptoms or the causes of false negative tuberculin skin tests. Twenty-three per cent of physicians correctly identified gastric aspirate culture sensitivity, and 42% the radiographical findings of pulmonary TB. Less than two-thirds of providers recognised the definition of latent TB infection (LTBI), young children's high risk of progression from LTBI to disease or indications for isoniazid preventive therapy. CONCLUSIONS Providers at the frontline of Peru's TB control efforts demonstrated weaknesses in the areas of extrapulmonary disease, diagnosis and prevention. These knowledge gaps are likely to have resulted in delayed or missed diagnoses and lost opportunities for prevention. Educational interventions targeting NTP personnel may improve childhood TB care and outcomes.

Abstract
BACKGROUND Isoniazid resistance is an obstacle to the treatment of tuberculosis disease and latent tuberculosis infection in children. We aim to summarize the literature describing the risk of isoniazid-resistant tuberculosis among children with tuberculosis disease. METHODS We did a systematic review of published reports of children with tuberculosis disease who had isolates tested for susceptibility to isoniazid. We searched PubMed, Embase and LILACS online databases up to January 12, 2012. RESULTS Our search identified 3403 citations, of which 95 studies met inclusion criteria. These studies evaluated 8351 children with tuberculosis disease for resistance to isoniazid. The median proportion of children found to have isoniazid-resistant strains was 8%; the distribution was right-skewed (25th percentile: 0% and 75th percentile: 18%). CONCLUSIONS High proportions of isoniazid resistance among pediatric tuberculosis patients have been reported in many settings suggesting that diagnostics detecting only rifampin resistance are insufficient to guide appropriate treatment in this population. Many children are likely receiving substandard tuberculosis treatment with empirical isoniazid-based regimens, and treating latent tuberculosis infection with isoniazid may not be effective in large numbers of children. Work is needed urgently to identify effective regimens for the treatment of children sick with or exposed to isoniazid-resistant tuberculosis and to better understand the scope of this problem.

Abstract
BACKGROUND AND OBJECTIVES Tuberculosis (TB) remains a global health problem. There is limited data on pediatric central nervous system tuberculosis (CNSTB) in Saudi Arabia on diagnosis and therapy. DESIGN AND SETTING Retrospective review of health record of pediatric patients < 14 years old who were diagnosed as having CNSTB or spinal TB and admitted to a tertiary care center. PATIENTS AND METHODS Health records and microbiology data of pediatric patients diagnosed with CNSTB were over 20-year period were reviewed. Data on demographics, clinical presentation, surgical interventions, neuroimaging, mycobacterial cultures and susceptibility and treatment were collected. RESULTS Thirteen children were diagnosed with CNSTB or spinal TB. Tuberculoma was the most frequent in 8 cases (62%), followed by TB of the spine in 4 cases (31%), and one case of meningitis. Six patients had a history of TB contact (46%) and 8 (62%) patients had a positive tuberculin skin test (TST). Seizure and weakness was the most frequent symptoms (38% each), while fever was less frequently encountered (23%). Tissue cultures (brain tissues/spinal tissues) showed a high yield (92%) of Mycobacterium tuberculosis with positive cultures for 11 surgical specimens out of 12 for whom cultures were done. There were no surgical complications from biopsies. All of MTB isolates were sensitive to first-line agents. CONCLUSIONS Brain or spinal biopsy is safe and has a high culture yield for MTB so it is advisable to perform a biopsy for any child in whom CNSTB is suspected and when there is no other less risky involved site for biopsy. All MTB isolates in this series were sensitive to first-line anti-tubercular agents.

Abstract
Primary CNS vasculitis is an uncommon disorder of unknown cause that is restricted to brain and spinal cord. The median age of onset is 50 years. The neurological manifestations are diverse, but generally consist of headache, altered cognition, focal weakness, or stroke. Serological markers of inflammation are usually normal. Cerebrospinal fluid is abnormal in about 80-90% of patients. Diagnosis is unlikely in the presence of a normal MRI of the brain. Biopsy of CNS tissue showing vasculitis is the only definitive test; however, angiography has often been used for diagnosis even though it has only moderate sensitivity and specificity. The size of the affected vessels varies and determines outcome and response to treatment. Early recognition is important because treatment with corticosteroids with or without cytotoxic drugs can often prevent serious outcomes. The differential diagnosis includes reversible cerebral vasoconstriction syndromes and secondary cerebral vasculitis.

Abstract
Background: Diagnosis of tuberculous meningitis (TBM) is a challenge because of the manifold clinical presentation, and diagnosis is often delayed. Objectives: We wanted to share our experience of directly observed treatment short course (DOTS) in TBM. We did a retrospective analysis to look at the presentation, management and outcome of TBM patients from November 2006 to April 2008. Materials and Methods: TBM was diagnosed based on clinical criteria. We excluded patients with HIV. Results: We had 11 patients on DOTS regime. One died following hepatitis and another patient died of unrelated gastroenteritis. The only patient on daily regime died. Our patients generally presented late, at a median duration 20 days from onset of symptoms, and 50% had stage 3 disease at presentation. The median delay in diagnosis was 4.5 days. Discussion: We found DOTS to be effective in TBM but not without side effects.

Abstract
PURPOSE OF REVIEW To review the current literature of childhood central nervous system vasculitis, and to discuss a tailored approach to diagnosis and treatment based on recent evidence. RECENT FINDINGS Primary angiitis of the central nervous system in children (cPACNS) is an increasingly recognized inflammatory brain disease with potentially devastating neurological consequences. The diagnostic approach should be tailored to the clinical presentation of the child with suspected cPACNS and should address the expanding spectrum of inflammatory and noninflammatory brain diseases with overlapping clinical features. New evidence has confirmed that elective brain biopsies in children have a higher diagnostic yield than in adults and improve our ability to diagnose angiography-negative cPACNS. Finally, observational studies have shown that early diagnosis and aggressive treatment lead to improved neurological outcomes and lower mortality rates in patients with cPACNS. SUMMARY This review summarizes the recent data on diagnosis, classification, treatment, and outcomes in cPACNS. Our improved understanding of cPACNS facilitates a tailored diagnostic approach that results in earlier diagnosis and initiation of therapy for this potentially reversible condition.

Abstract
Central nervous system (CNS) vasculitis is an increasingly recognized, often devastating inflammatory brain disease of children and adults. In primary or isolated CNS vasculitis/angiitis of childhood (cPACNS), the vascular inflammation is limited to the brain and spinal cord. Secondary CNS vasculitis occurs in a variety of conditions including infections, collagen vascular diseases, systemic vasculidities, and malignancies. Mimics of CNS vasculitis in children include dissections and noninflammatory vasculopathies. Diagnosis of primary CNS vasculitis in both adults and children is based on the Calabrese criteria. This review summarizes recent data on CNS vasculitis in children; reviews the clinical spectrum at presentation and the role of laboratory tests, neuroimaging, and brain biopsy; and discusses treatment strategies, outcome data, and overlapping conditions of cPACNS.

Abstract
Tuberculous meningitis (TBM) is still a major cause of serious illness in many parts of the world. The newer diagnostic tests and neuroimaging methods are unlikely to be available in many developing countries. We attempt to identify simple parameters for early diagnosis. A retrospective study was performed to compare the clinical and laboratory features of cultured-confirmed, TBM (134) and other bacterial meningitis (709). Features independently predictive of TBM were studied by multivariate logistic regression to develop a diagnostic rule. Six features were found predictive: length of clinical history >5 days, headache, total cerebrospinal fluid (CSF) white blood cell count of <1000/mm3, clear appearance of CSF, lymphocyte proportion of >30%, and protein content of >100 mg/dL. Application of 3 or more parameters revealed 93% sensitivity and 77% specificity. Applying this diagnostic rule can help in the early diagnosis of TBM, in both children and adults.

Abstract
INTRODUCTION Tuberculous meningitis and brain tuberculomas are currently rare in the western world but remain serious. Improved outcome requires early recognition and treatment of these conditions. STATE OF ART Treatment is usually begun before diagnostic confirmation. Therapeutic principles are now better defined thanks to recent recommendations and studies. Antituberculous therapy begins with two months of a combination of four drugs: isoniazid, rifampicin, ethambutol and pyrazinamid. Then follows a longer phase of bitherapy with isoniazid and rifampicin, lasting at least four months but usually extended to seven or ten months as a precaution. Patients at risk of toxic neuropathy should receive pyridoxine supplementation. Corticosteroids must be systematically added during the first eight weeks of treatment, beginning with high dose before progressive tapering. Hyponatremia is common, often induced by emesis and cerebral salt wasting syndrome. Therefore saline supply rather than water restriction is required. Non-obstructive hydrocephaly can usually be managed with diuretic therapy including acetazolamid, sometimes complemented by serial lumbar punctures. Neurosurgical interventions are rarely needed. Monitoring of treatment tolerance and efficacy is mainly clinical. Central nervous system imaging and cerebro-spinal fluid analysis are only required to explain clinical deterioration. CONCLUSION With adequate and prompt anti-tuberculous, anti-inflammatory and supportive treatment, the prognosis of central nervous system tuberculosis can be greatly improved.

Abstract
OBJECTIVE To identify factors associated with HIV-infected status in children admitted with tuberculous meningitis (TBM), and to find out whether HIV co-infection affects in-hospital outcome. METHODS This prospective hospital-based study was conducted from May 2000 to August 2003. All consecutive children, aged 1 month to 12 years of age, admitted with a diagnosis of TBM were enrolled. Relationship between 35 features viz., two demographic factors, nine clinical features, 13 neurological features, five laboratory (including cerebrospinal fluid) parameters, six radiological (including computed tomography scan brain) features, and the two outcomes (disabled survivor or death); with HIV-infected status was assessed. RESULTS Of a total 123 TBM cases enrolled, eight (6.5%) were HIV-infected. There was no significant difference between the two groups, except that more children in the HIV-infected group had Hb < 8 gm/dl: both on bivariate analysis, (OR, 12.0; 95% CI, 2.6-55.9; P = 0.001) and on multivariate analysis (OR, 12.30; 95% CI, 1.9-79.6; P = 0.008). Outcome was similar in both the groups. CONCLUSION Only presence of Hb < 8 gm/dl was associated with HIV-infected status. HIV co-infection did not affect the outcome.

Abstract
BACKGROUND Despite effective antituberculous medications, the mortality and morbidity remain high in children with tuberculous meningitis (TBM). The traditional clinical staging for TBM developed by Lincoln et al in 1960 has been widely used to predict long term neurologic sequelae (NS). In the current era of critical care medicine and corticosteroid therapy, a new scoring system is needed to predict NS more accurately in children with TBM. METHODS We reviewed all available cases of TBM in San Diego, CA, during 1991-2001 retrospectively, and we developed a novel scoring system to predict NS in children with TBM. We assessed a tuberculous meningitis acute neurologic (TBAN) score at day 0 and on day 3 of hospitalization, to compare children who subsequently developed severe NS with those who did not. RESULTS Among 20 children with TBM, 7 children developed severe NS and 1 child died during hospitalization. The TBAN score was higher on day 0 in those with severe NS (5.5 versus 2.0, P = 0.09), and the difference became statistically significant by day 3 of hospitalization (5.5 versus 0.0, P = 0.02). Sensitivity and specificity of the TBAN score (> or =4) on day 0 (75 and 92%) and day 3 (88 and 100%) to predict severe NS were superior to the traditional clinical staging system on day 0 (63 and 58%). CONCLUSIONS The TBAN score is an objective marker for predicting severe NS in children with TBM.

Abstract
Infection of the central nervous system (CNS) is a severe and frequently fatal event during the course of many diseases caused by microbes with predominantly intracellular life cycles. Examples of these include the facultative intracellular bacteria Listeria monocytogenes, Mycobacterium tuberculosis, and Brucella and Salmonella spp. and obligate intracellular microbes of the Rickettsiaceae family and Tropheryma whipplei. Unfortunately, the mechanisms used by intracellular bacterial pathogens to enter the CNS are less well known than those used by bacterial pathogens with an extracellular life cycle. The goal of this review is to elaborate on the means by which intracellular bacterial pathogens establish infection within the CNS. This review encompasses the clinical and pathological findings that pertain to the CNS infection in humans and includes experimental data from animal models that illuminate how these microbes enter the CNS. Recent experimental data showing that L. monocytogenes can invade the CNS by more than one mechanism make it a useful model for discussing the various routes for neuroinvasion used by intracellular bacterial pathogens.

Abstract
PURPOSE OF THE REVIEW To summarize the current literature on central nervous system vasculitis in childhood because this condition remains a diagnostic and therapeutic challenge. RECENT FINDINGS Central nervous system vasculitis in childhood may be primary or secondary to a variety of conditions including infections, collagen vascular diseases, systemic vasculitides, and malignancies. Conditions that result in vasospasm or are associated with noninflammatory vasculopathies may mimic the features of central nervous system vasculitis. Recent studies have described the clinical spectrum of CNS vasculitis in childhood. The most common presenting features are headaches and focal neurologic deficits. The diagnosis of central nervous system vasculitis remains particularly difficult because the available investigative modalities have limited sensitivities and specificities. The most helpful diagnostic tests include cerebrospinal fluid analysis, MRI of the brain, and angiography. However, brain biopsy may be required to diagnose small vessel vasculitis. SUMMARY This review summarizes recent data on primary central nervous system vasculitis and some of the secondary CNS vasculitides in children. Awareness of the presenting clinical features of CNS vasculitis should lead to consideration of the diagnosis. Awareness of the sensitivity and specificity of the various diagnostic tests should lead to the more prudent use of invasive diagnostic tests including angiography and brain biopsy.

Tuberculous meningitis (TBM), the most severe form of Mycobacterium tuberculosis infection in humans, is associated with significant morbidity and mortality despite successful treatment with antituberculous drugs. This is due to the irreversible brain damage subsequent to the local inflammatory response of the host to M. tuberculosis. Corticosteroids have been used in conjunction with antituberculous therapy in an attempt to modulate the inflammatory response, but this strategy has been of limited success. Therefore, we examined whether combining antituberculous drugs with the immunomodulatory drug thalidomide or with a new thalidomide analog, immunomodulatory drug 3 (IMiD3), would be effective in reducing morbidity and mortality in an experimental rabbit model of TBM. Intracisternal inoculation of 5 x 10(4) CFU of Mycobacterium bovis Ravenel in rabbits induced progressive subacute meningitis characterized by high cerebrospinal fluid (CSF) leukocytosis, protein influx, release of tumor necrosis factor (TNF), substantial meningeal inflammation, and mortality by day 28. Treatment with antituberculous drugs or with antituberculous drugs plus thalidomide improved the clinical course of disease somewhat and increased survival to about 50%. In contrast, treatment with antituberculous drugs in combination with IMiD3 limited pathological neurologic changes and resulted in marked improvement (73%) in survival. IMiD3 treatment was also associated with reduced leukocytosis in the CSF and significantly lower levels of TNF in CSF and plasma. Histologically, the meningeal inflammation in animals treated with antituberculous drugs plus IMiD3 was considerably attenuated compared to that of the other treatment groups. These results suggest a potential role for IMiD3 in the management of TBM in patients.
