Abstract
A systematic study of the effect of phosphine and bis-phosphine ligands in the interaction of NiII, PdII, and PtII complexes with two classes of zinc fingers was performed. The Cys2His2, finger 3 of specific protein-1, and the Cys2HisCys C-terminal zinc finger of nucleocapsid protein 7 of the HIV-1 were used as models of the respective class. In general, phosphine ligands favor the metal binding to the peptide, although the bis-phosphine ligands produce more specific binding than the monodentate. In the case of nickel complexes, the interaction of NiII ions with the sequence SKH, present in Cys2His2, results in hydrolysis, contrasting to the preferred zinc ejection produced by the NiII complexes with chelating phosphines, producing Ni(bis-phosphine) fingers. In the absence of the SKH sequence, zinc ejection is observed with the formation of nickel fingers, with reactivity dependent on the phosphine. On the other hand, Pd(phosphines) produces Pd2 fingers in the case of triphenylphosphine with the phosphine coordinated as intermediate species. The bis-phosphine ligands produce very clean spectra and a stable signal Pd(bis-phosphine)finger. Interestingly, phosphines produce very reactive platinum complexes, which eject zinc and promote peptide hydrolysis. The results reported here are relevant to the understanding of the mechanism of these interactions and how to modulate metallocompounds for zinc finger interference.

Cytotoxic and antiparasitic activities of diphosphine-metal complexes of group 10 containing acylthiourea as ligands. J Inorg Biochem 2022; 234:111906. Abstract
In this work, group 10 transition metal complexes bearing dppe [1,2-bis(diphenylphosphino)ethane] and acylthiourea ligands were evaluated for their cytotoxic and antiparasitic activities. Six new complexes with a general formula [M(Ln)(dppe)]BF4 [where M = NiII, PdII or PtII; Ln = N, N'-dimethyl-N-benzoyl thiourea (L1) or N, N'-dimethyl-N-tiofenyl thiourea (L2) were synthesized and characterized by infrared, NMR (31P{1H}, 1H and 13C{1H}) spectroscopies, elemental analysis and molar conductivity. The structures of the complexes were confirmed by X-ray diffraction technique. The biological activity of the complexes was evaluated on breast cancer cells (MDA-MB-231 and MCF-7) and causative agents of chagas disease and leishmaniasis. The complexes presented higher cytotoxicity for breast cancer cell lines compared to non-tumor cells. Nickel complexes stood out when evaluated against the triple-negative breast cancer line (MDA-MB-231), presenting considerably lower IC50 values (about 10 to 22×), when compared to palladium and platinum complexes, and the cisplatin drug. When evaluated on the triple-negative line (MDA-MB-231), the complexes [Ni(L2)(dppe)]BF4(2), [Pd(L2)(dppe)]BF4(4) and [Pt(L2)(dppe)]BF4(6) were able to induce cell morphological changes, influence on the cell colony formation and the size of the cells. The complexes inhibit cell migration and cause changes to the cell cytoskeleton and nuclear arrangement. In the same cell line, the compounds caused cell arrest in the Sub-G1 phase of the cell cycle. The compounds were also tested against the Trypanosom Cruzi (T. cruzi) and Leishmania sp. parasites, which cause Chagas and leishmaniasis disease, respectively. The compounds showed good anti-parasitic activity, mainly for T. cruzi, with lower IC50 values, when compared to the commercial drug, benznidazole. The compounds interact with CT-DNA, indicating that interaction occurs by the minor groove of the biomolecule.

Abstract
The isolable chelating bis(N-heterocyclic silylenyl)-substituted terphenyl ligand [SiII(Terp)SiII] as well as its bis(phosphine) analogue [PIII(Terp)PIII] have been synthesised and fully characterised. Their reaction with Ni(cod)2 (cod = cycloocta-1,5-diene) affords the corresponding 16 VE nickel(0) complexes with an intramolecular η 2-arene coordination of Ni, [E(Terp)E]Ni(η 2-arene) (E = PIII, SiII; arene = phenylene spacer). Due to a strong cooperativity of the Si and Ni sites in H2 activation and H atom transfer, [SiII(Terp)SiII]Ni(η 2-arene) mediates very effectively and chemoselectively the homogeneously catalysed hydrogenation of olefins bearing functional groups at 1 bar H2 pressure and room temperature; in contrast, the bis(phosphine) analogous complex shows only poor activity. Catalytic and stoichiometric experiments revealed the important role of the η2-coordination of the Ni(0) site by the intramolecular phenylene with respect to the hydrogenation activity of [SiII(Terp)SiII]Ni(η 2-arene). The mechanism has been established by kinetic measurements, including kinetic isotope effect (KIE) and Hammet-plot correlation. With this system, the currently highest performance of a homogeneous nickel-based hydrogenation catalyst of olefins (TON = 9800, TOF = 6800 h-1) could be realised.

Abstract
A stable nickel(II) methyl complex containing a diphosphino-boryl (PBP) pincer ligand is described. Mechanistic studies on the hydrogenolysis of the Ni-Me bond suggest a metal ligand cooperation mechanism that involves the intermediacy of a σ-B-H Ni(0) species that further undergoes B-H oxidative addition to form a Ni(II) hydride complex.

Abstract
The solid-state, low-temperature linkage isomerism in a series of five square planar group 10 phosphino nitro complexes have been investigated by a combination of photocrystallographic experiments, Raman spectroscopy and computer modelling. The factors influencing the reversible solid-state interconversion between the nitro and nitrito structural isomers have also been investigated, providing insight into the dynamics of this process. The cis-[Ni(dcpe)(NO2)2] (1) and cis-[Ni(dppe)(NO2)2] (2) complexes show reversible 100 % interconversion between the η1-NO2 nitro isomer and the η1-ONO nitrito form when single-crystals are irradiated with 400 nm light at 100 K. Variable temperature photocrystallographic studies for these complexes established that the metastable nitrito isomer reverted to the ground-state nitro isomer at temperatures above 180 K. By comparison, the related trans complex [Ni(PCy3)2(NO2)2] (3) showed 82 % conversion under the same experimental conditions at 100 K. The level of conversion to the metastable nitrito isomers is further reduced when the nickel centre is replaced by palladium or platinum. Prolonged irradiation of the trans-[Pd(PCy3)2(NO2)2] (4) and trans-[Pt(PCy3)2(NO2)2] (5) with 400 nm light gives reversible conversions of 44 and 27 %, respectively, consistent with the slower kinetics associated with the heavier members of group 10. The mechanism of the interconversion has been investigated by theoretical calculations based on the model complex [Ni(dmpe)Cl(NO2)].

Abstract
Described are new derivatives of the type [HNiFe(SR)(2)(diphosphine)(CO)(3)](+), which feature a Ni(diphosphine) group linked to a Fe(CO)(3) group by two bridging thiolate ligands. Previous work had described [HNiFe(pdt)(dppe)(CO)(3)](+) ([1H](+)) and its activity as a catalyst for the reduction of protons (J. Am. Chem. Soc. 2010, 132, 14877). Work described in this paper focuses on the effects on properties of NiFe model complexes of the diphosphine attached to nickel as well as the dithiolate bridge, 1,3-propanedithiolate (pdt) vs 1,2-ethanedithiolate (edt). A new synthetic route to these Ni-Fe dithiolates is described, involving reaction of Ni(SR)(2)(diphosphine) with FeI(2)(CO)(4) followed by in situ reduction with cobaltocene. Evidence is presented that this route proceeds via a metastable μ-iodo derivative. Attempted isolation of such species led to the crystallization of NiFe(Me(2)pdt)(dppe)I(2), which features tetrahedral Fe(II) and square planar Ni(II) centers (H(2)Me(2)pdt = 2,2-dimethylpropanedithiol). The new tricarbonyls prepared in this work are NiFe(pdt)(dcpe)(CO)(3) (2, dcpe = 1,2-bis(dicyclohexylphosphino)ethane), NiFe(edt)(dppe)(CO)(3) (3), and NiFe(edt)(dcpe)(CO)(3) (4). Attempted preparation of a phenylthiolate-bridged complex via the FeI(2)(CO)(4) + Ni(SPh)(2)(dppe) route gave the tetrametallic species [(CO)(2)Fe(SPh)(2)Ni(CO)](2)(μ-dppe)(2). Crystallographic analysis of the edt-dcpe compund [2H]BF(4) and the edt-dppe compound [3H]BF(4) verified their close resemblance. Each features pseudo-octahedral Fe and square pyramidal Ni centers. Starting from [3H]BF(4) we prepared the PPh(3) derivative [HNiFe(edt)(dppe)(PPh(3))(CO)(2)]BF(4) ([5H]BF(4)), which was obtained as a ∼2:1 mixture of unsymmetrical and symmetrical isomers. Acid-base measurements indicate that changing from Ni(dppe) (dppe = Ph(2)PCH(2)CH(2)PPh(2)) to Ni(dcpe) decreases the acidity of the cationic hydride complexes by 2.5 pK(a)(PhCN) units, from ∼11 to ∼13.5 (previous work showed that substitution at Fe leads to more dramatic effects). The redox potentials are more strongly affected by the change from dppe to dcpe, for example the [2](0/+) couple occurs at E(1/2) = -820 for [2](0/+) vs -574 mV (vs Fc(+/0)) for [1](0/+). Changes in the dithiolate do not affect the acidity or the reduction potentials of the hydrides. The acid-independent rate of reduction of CH(2)ClCO(2)H by [2H](+) is about 50 s(-1) (25 °C), twice that of [1H](+). The edt-dppe complex [2H](+) proved to be the most active catalyst, with an acid-independent rate of 300 s(-1).

Abstract
In the crystal structure of title compound, [NiCl2(C14H32P2)], the NiII atom lies on a twofold rotation axis and shows a slightly distorted square-planar coordination geometry, with a dihedral angle of 10.01 (8)° between the cis-Cl—Ni—Cl and cis-P—Ni—P planes. There is no significant intermolecular interaction except very weak C—H⋯Cl interactions. The crystal studied was a racemic twin.

Abstract
In the title compound, [NiCl2(C14H32P2)]·2C12H9N, the neutral [Ni(dppe)Cl2] complex [dppe is 1,2-bis(diisopropylphosphanyl)ethane] consists of a tetracoordinated Ni2+ cation and has a crystallographic twofold axis passing through the metal atom and the mid-point of the CH2—CH2 bond of the dppe ligand. The metal atom shows slight tetrahedral distortion from an ideal square-planar coordination geometry, as reflected in the dihedral angle between NiCl2 and NiP2 planes of 15.32 (2)°. The 9H-carbazole ring system is essentially planar (r.m.s. deviation = 0.022 Å). In the crystal packing, there are two symmetry-related 9H-carbazole molecules between two adjacent NiII complexes, with an angle between the carbazole mean planes of ca 77°.

Abstract
Dimetallic compounds [(P-P)M(S(2)C(6)H(2)S(2))M(P-P)] (M = Ni, Pd; P-P = chelating bis(phosphine), 3a-3f) are prepared from O=CS(2)C(6)H(2)S(2)C=O or (n)Bu(2)SnS(2)C(6)H(2)S(2)Sn(n)Bu(2), which are protected forms of 1,2,4,5-benzenetetrathiolate. Selective monodeprotections of O=CS(2)C(6)H(2)S(2)C=O or (n)Bu(2)SnS(2)C(6)H(2)S(2)Sn(n)Bu(2) lead to [(P-P)Ni(S(2)C(6)H(2)S(2)C=O)] or [(P-P)Ni(S(2)C(6)H(2)S(2)Sn(n)Bu(2))]; the former is used to prepare trimetallic compounds [(dcpe)Ni(S(2)C(6)H(2)S(2))M(S(2)C(6)H(2)S(2))Ni(dcpe)] (M = Ni (6a) or Pt (6b); dcpe = 1,2-bis(dicyclohexylphosphino)ethane). Compounds 3a-3f are redox active and display two oxidation processes, of which the first is generally reversible. Dinickel compound [(dcpe)Ni(S(2)C(6)H(2)S(2))Ni(dcpe)] (3d) reveals two reversible oxidation waves with DeltaE(1/2) = 0.66 V, corresponding to K(c) of 1.6 x 10(11) for the mixed valence species. Electrochemical behavior is unstable to repeated scanning in the presence of [Bu(4)N][PF(6)] electrolyte but indefinitely stable with Na[BArF(24)] (BArF(24) = tetrakis(3,5-bis(trifluoromethyl)phenyl)borate), suggesting that the radical cation generated by oxidation is vulnerable to reaction with PF(6)(-). Chemical oxidation of 3d with [Cp(2)Fe][BArF(24)] leads to formation of [3d][BArF(24)]. Structural identification of [3d][BArF(24)] reveals appreciable shortening and lengthening of C-S and C-C bond distances, respectively, within the tetrathioarene fragment compared to charge-neutral 3d, indicating this to be the redox active moiety. Attempted oxidation of [(dppb)Ni(S(2)C(6)H(2)S(2))Ni(dppb)] (3c) (dppb = 1,2-bis(diphenylphosphino)benzene) with AgBArF(24) produces [[(dppb)Ni(S(2)C(6)H(2)S(2))Ni(dppb)](2)(mu-Ag(2))][BArF(24)](2), [4c][BArF(24)](2), in which no redox chemistry has occurred. Crystal structures of bis(disulfide)-linked compounds [(P-P)Ni(S(2)C(6)H(2)(mu-S(2))(2)C(6)H(2)S(2))Ni(P-P)] are reported. Near IR spectroscopy upon cationic [3d](+) and neutral 6a reveals multiple intense absorptions in the 950-1400 nm region. Time-dependent density functional theory (DFT) calculations on a 6a model compound indicate that these absorptions are transitions between ligand-based pi-type orbitals that have significant contributions from the sulfur p orbitals.

Abstract
The reaction of Ni(COD)(2)(COD = 1,5-cyclooctadiene) with triethylphosphine and pentafluoropyridine in hexane has been shown previously to yield trans-[NiF(2-C(5)NF(4))(PEt(3))(2)](1a) with a preference for reaction at the 2-position of the heteroaromatic. The corresponding reaction with 2,3,5,6-tetrafluoropyridine was shown to yield trans-[NiF(2-C(5)NF(3)H)(PEt(3))(2)](1b). In this paper, we show that reaction of Ni(COD)(2) with triethylphosphine and pentafluoropyridine in THF yields a mixture of 1a and 1b. Competition reactions of Ni(COD)(2) with triethylphosphine in the presence of mixtures of heteroaromatics in hexane reveal a kinetic preference of k(pentafluoropyridine):k(2,3,5,6-tetrafluoropyridine)= 5.4:1. Treatment of 1a and 1b with Me(3)SiN(3) affords trans-[Ni(N(3))(2-C(5)NF(4))(PEt(3))(2)](2a) and trans-[Ni(N(3))(2-C(5)NHF(3))(PEt(3))(2)](2b), respectively. The complex trans-[Ni(NCO)(2-C(5)NHF(3))(PEt(3))(2)](3b) is obtained on reaction of with Me(3)SiNCO and by photolysis of under CO, while trans-[Ni(eta(1)-C [triple bond CPh)(2-C(5)NF(4))(PEt(3))(2)](4a) is obtained by reaction of phenylacetylene with 1a. Addition of KCN, KI and NaOAc to complex 1a affords trans-[Ni(X)(2-C(5)NF(4))(PEt(3))(2)](5a X = CN, 6a X = I, 7a X = OAc), respectively. The PEt(3) groups of complex are readily replaced by addition of 1,2-bis(dicyclohexylphosphino)ethane (dcpe) to produce [NiF(2-C(5)F(4)N)(dcpe)](8a). Addition of dcpe to trans-[Ni(OTf)(2-C(5)F(4)N)(PEt(3))(2)](10a), however, yields the salt [Ni(2-C(5)F(4)N)(dcpe)(PEt(3))](OTf)(9a) by substitution of only one PEt(3) and displacement of the triflate ligand. The structures of 2b, 4a, 7a and 8a were determined by X-ray crystallography. The influence of different ancillary ligands on the bond lengths and angles of square-planar nickel structures with polyfluoropyridyl ligands is analysed.
