Abstract
Emerging studies highlight chrononutrition's impact on body composition through circadian clock entrainment, but its effect on older adults' muscle health remains largely overlooked. To determine the associations between chrononutrition behaviors and muscle health in older adults. Dietary data from 828 older adults (76 ± 5 years) recorded food/beverage amounts and their clock time over the past 24 h. Studied chrononutrition behaviors included: (1) The clock time of the first and last food/beverage intake; (2) Eating window (the time elapsed between the first and last intake); and (3) Eating frequency (Number of self-identified eating events logged with changed meal occasion and clock time). Muscle mass (D3-creatine), leg muscle volume (MRI), grip strength (hand-held dynamometer), and leg power (Keiser) were used as outcomes. We used linear regression to assess the relationships between chrononutrition and muscle health, adjusting for age, sex, race, marital status, education, study site, self-reported health, energy, protein, fiber intake, weight, height, and moderate-to-vigorous physical activity. Average eating window was 11 ± 2 h/day; first and last intake times were at 8:22 and 19:22, respectively. After multivariable adjustment, a longer eating window and a later last intake time were associated with greater muscle mass (β ± SE: 0.18 ± 0.09; 0.27 ± 0.11, respectively, p < 0.05). The longer eating window was also marginally associated with higher leg power (p = 0.058). An earlier intake time was associated with higher grip strength (-0.38 ± 0.15; p = 0.012). Chrononutrition behaviors, including longer eating window, later last intake time, and earlier first intake time were associated with better muscle mass and function in older adults.

Abstract
Fasting induces metabolic changes in muscles, which are differentiated by muscle fiber type. In this study, the mechanism of fasting-induced muscle atrophy in rats was examined to determine the differences between muscle fiber types in energy production. Fasting for 96 h did not alter the weight of the soleus (SOL), a fiber type I muscle, but did significantly reduce the weight of gastrocnemius (GM), a fiber type II muscle. GM, SOL and blood pregnenolone and testosterone levels decreased under fasting, which induced energy deprivation, whereas corticosterone (CORT) levels significantly increased. However, the expression of 3β-HSD and P45011β in GM was unaffected by fasting. The decrease in GM weight may be due to decreased levels of testosterone and reduced synthesis of mammalian target of rapamycin (mTOR). Significant increases in CORT both GM and SOL were associated with increases in the amount of branched-chain amino acids available for energy production. However, decreased levels of mTOR and IGF1 and increased levels of CORT and IL-6 in SOL suggest that GM proteolysis was followed by SOL proteolysis for additional energy production. In conclusion, IGF1 levels decreased significantly in SOL, whereas those of IL-6 significantly increased in SOL and blood but decreased in GM. Blood branched-chain amino acids (BCAA) levels were unaffected due to fasting, whereas an increase was noted in the levels of BCAA in GM and SOL. These results show that fasting for 96 h restricts energy supply, producing fast-twitch muscle atrophy followed by slow-twitch muscle atrophy.

Abstract
AIMS Skipping breakfast is known as a cardiovascular disease (CVD) risk. Recently, eating and dietary patterns have been varied in many countries, however, the mechanisms of promoting CVD are still unclear. Our goal was to assess the effects of eating and dietary patterns on CVD risk factors, with a focus on lipid parameters including serum concentration of small dense low-density lipoprotein cholesterol (sdLDL-C). METHODS Subjects consisted of 27,997 Japanese men and women, who had medical check-up. Lipid parameters including sdLDL-C levels in breakfast skippers were compared with those in breakfast eaters. Lipid parameters in staple foods skippers were also compared with those in staple foods eaters. RESULTS Breakfast skippers had significantly (p<0.01) higher serum levels of median sdLDL-C than breakfast eaters in both genders (34.7 versus 32.0 mg/dL in men, 25.4 versus 24.9 mg/dL in women, respectively), and the same was true for sdLDL-C/LDL-C ratio (0.276 versus 0.260 in men, 0.218 versus 0.209 in women, respectively). Similarly, staple foods skippers had significantly higher sdLDL-C level than staple foods eaters in both genders (34.1 versus 31.6 mg/dL in men, 25.8 versus 24.7 mg/dL in women), and the same went for sdLDL-C/LDL-C ratio (0.278 versus 0.256 in men, 0.215 versus 0.208 mg/dL in women, respectively). CONCLUSION Our data indicate that both skipping breakfast and having meals without staple foods increase serum sdLDL-C concentration and cause unfavorable lipid profiles, and then may promote CVD. These finding provide evidence for the importance of having breakfast and meals with staple foods for preventing CVD.

Abstract
The trend of fasting until noon (omission or delayed breakfast) is increasingly prevalent in modern society. This eating pattern triggers discordance between endogenous circadian clock rhythms and the feeding/fasting cycle and is associated with an increased incidence of obesity and T2D. Although the underlying mechanism of this association is not well understood, growing evidence suggests that fasting until noon, also known as an "extended postabsorptive state", has the potential to cause a deleterious effect on clock gene expression and to disrupt regulation of body weight, postprandial and overall glycemia, skeletal muscle protein synthesis, and appetite, and may also lead to lower energy expenditure. This manuscript overviews the clock gene-controlled glucose metabolism during the active and resting phases and the consequences of postponing until noon the transition from postabsorptive to fed state on glucose metabolism, weight control, and energy expenditure. Finally, we will discuss the metabolic advantages of shifting more energy, carbohydrates (CH), and proteins to the early hours of the day.

Abstract
BACKGROUND AND AIMS There is a large body of research focused on various aspects related to Ramadan intermittent fasting (RIF) and human health and disease. This study aimed to quantify the bibliometric data of RIF medical research over the past seven decades and explore these variables qualitatively via text mining analysis. METHODS We used the Scopus search engine to identify published articles related to RIF from inception to December 31, 2021. All types of research articles were included. Scientometric and bibliometric measures were determined using Excel, Biblioshiny, and VOSviewer. This study proposed a bibliometric and text mining method to qualitatively and quantitatively recognize the RIF research trend. RESULTS The Scopus search returned 1915 relevant articles. Most citations pertained to publications from the last two decades, and most publications were original research articles. These publications had received around 27,000 citations, and the 20 most prolific publishing journals had an average h-index of 112.25. More than one-third of all medical publications were in open-access journals. There was a 13-fold increase in medical research on RIF over the past few decades. We identified the 10 most prolific publishing countries, institutes, journals, and authors. We also identified five scientific hotspots of RIF scientific literature, which were: diabetes, metabolic health, public health, physiology, and maternity. CONCLUSION This is the first comprehensive bibliometric analysis of medical research related to RIF. The research gaps identified will shape future research directions and foster collaborative research activities toward enhanced medical nutrition research revolving around RIF.
