Abstract
BACKGROUND Nutrition is largely affected in bipolar disorder (BD), however, there is a lack of understanding on the relationship between dietary categories, BD, and the prevalence of metabolic syndrome. The objective of this study is to examine dietary trends in BD and it is hypothesized that diets with increased consumption of seafood and high-fiber carbohydrates will be correlated to improved patient outcomes, and a lower frequency of metabolic syndrome. METHODS This retrospective cohort study includes two French cohorts. The primary cohort, FACE-BD, includes 268 stable BD patients. The second cohort, I-GIVE, includes healthy controls, both stable and acute BD and schizophrenia patients. Four dietary categories were assessed: meat, seafood, low-fiber and high-fiber carbohydrates. Dietary data from two food frequency questionnaires were normalized using min-max scaling and assessed using various statistical analyses. RESULTS In our primary cohort, the increased high-fiber carbohydrate consumption was correlated to lower prevalence of metabolic syndrome and improved mood. Low-fiber carbohydrate consumption is associated with higher BMI, while higher seafood consumption was correlated to improved mood and delayed age of onset. Results were not replicated in our secondary cohort. LIMITATIONS Our populations were small and two different dietary questionnaires were used; thus, results were used to examine similarities in trends. CONCLUSIONS Overall, various dietary trends were associated with metabolic syndrome, BMI, lactate, mood and age of onset. Improving our understanding of nutrition in BD can provide mechanistic insight, clinically relevant nutritional guidelines for precision medicine and ultimately improve the quality of lives for those with BD.

Abstract
Bipolar disorder (BD) is a potentially chronic mental disorder marked by recurrent depressive and manic episodes, circadian rhythm disruption, and changes in energetic metabolism. "Metabolic jet lag" refers to a state of shift in circadian patterns of energy homeostasis, affecting neuroendocrine, immune, and adipose tissue function, expressed through behavioral changes such as irregularities in sleep and appetite. Risk factors include genetic variation, mitochondrial dysfunction, lifestyle factors, poor gut microbiome health and abnormalities in hunger, satiety, and hedonistic function. Evidence suggests metabolic jet lag is a core component of BD pathophysiology, as individuals with BD frequently exhibit irregular eating rhythms and circadian desynchronization of their energetic metabolism, which is associated with unfavorable clinical outcomes. Although current diagnostic criteria lack any assessment of eating rhythms, technological advancements including mobile phone applications and ecological momentary assessment allow for the reliable tracking of biological rhythms. Overall, methodological refinement of metabolic jet lag assessment will increase knowledge in this field and stimulate the development of interventions targeting metabolic rhythms, such as time-restricted eating.

Abstract
This study aimed to investigate alterations in the gut microbiota of patients with depression compared to those in the gut microbiota of healthy individuals based on enterotypes as a classification framework. Fecal bacteria FASTA/Q samples from 333 Chinese participants, including 107 healthy individuals (Healthy group) and 226 individuals suffering from depression (DP group), were analyzed. The participants were classified into three enterotypes: Bacteroidaceae (ET-B), Lachnospiraceae (ET-L), and Prevotellaceae (ET-P). An α-diversity analysis revealed no significant differences in microbial diversity between the Healthy and DP groups across all enterotypes. However, there were substantial differences in the gut microbial composition for β-diversity, particularly within ET-L and ET-B. The DP group within ET-B exhibited a higher abundance of Proteobacteria, while a linear discriminant analysis (LDA) of the DP group showed an increased relative abundance of specific genera, such as Mediterraneibacter, Blautia, Bifidobacterium, and Clostridium. Within ET-L, Bifidobacterium, Blautia, Clostridium, Collinsella, and Corynebacterium were significantly higher in the DP group in the LDA and ANOVA-like differential expression-2 (ALDEx2) analyses. At the species level of ET-L, Blautia luti, Blautia provencensis, Blautia glucerasea, Clostridium innocuum, Clostridium porci, and Clostridium leptum were the primary bacteria in the DP group identified using the machine learning approach. A network analysis revealed a more tightly interconnected microbial community within ET-L than within ET-B. This suggests a potentially stronger functional relationship among the gut microbiota in ET-L. The metabolic pathways related to glucose metabolism, tryptophan and tyrosine metabolism, neurotransmitter metabolism, and immune-related functions showed strong negative associations with depression, particularly within ET-L. These findings provide insights into the gut-brain axis and its role in the pathogenesis of depression, thus contributing to our understanding of the underlying mechanisms in Asian individuals. Further research is warranted to explain the mechanistic links between gut microbiota and depression and to explore their potential for use in precision medicine interventions.

Abstract
BACKGROUND Lesbian, gay, bisexual, transgender, intersexual and queer (LGBTIQ) individuals are often stigmatized due to their minority status. Sexual-minority stress is often discussed as a risk factor for the increased mental health problems reported in this population. OBJECTIVE The current study (1) investigated eating attitudes and depressive symptoms in a sexual minority sample from Turkey who identify themselves as LGBTIQ and (2) explored the role of sexual minority stressors beyond the potential predictors of eating attitudes and depressive symptoms in this population. METHODS Recruitment was supported and streamlined by several Turkish NGOs and LGBTIQ community networks. Sociodemographic measures, eating attitudes, depressive symptoms, sexual minority stressors (e.g., heterosexist experiences, internalized homophobia), and the potential predictors of eating attitudes and depressive symptoms were assessed with an anonymous online survey between February 2022 and June 2022. The sample consisted of 440 participants. The mean age was 31.92 (SD = 11.82). The majority of the participants reported their current gender identity as male (64.3%; n = 440) and their sexual orientation as attracted to men (62.8%; n = 439). For 79.7% of the participants, the assigned sex at birth was man (n = 439). RESULTS Two separate three-stage multiple hierarchical regression analyses were conducted, controlling for sociodemographic characteristics and the risk and protective factors of eating attitudes and depressive symptoms. Disturbed eating attitudes were predicted by assigned female sex at birth, higher scores for depression, social isolation, and the total number of heterosexist experiences, and lower distress related to heterosexist experiences. Depressive symptoms were predicted by assigned female sex at birth, lesbian sexual orientation, disturbance in eating attitudes, increases in generalized anxiety, and distress related to daily heterosexist experiences. CONCLUSION The current study demonstrated the significant role of sexual minority stressors in the prediction of disturbed eating attitudes and depressive symptomatology beyond the general psychosocial vulnerability factors. These findings emphasize the need for developing strategies to reduce prejudicial attitudes at the societal level and to enhance the skills of LGBTIQ individuals in coping with sexual minority stressors in Turkey.
