Abstract
The aim of this study was to evaluate the effects of the application of universal adhesive in the etch-and-rinse (ER) strategy with a manual brush (MB) or rotary brush (RB) in adhesion to dentin impregnated (WB) or not (NB) with bioceramic sealer, at 24 h and 1 year. Eighty-eight crowns of bovine incisors were divided into four groups (n=22): WB-MB, WB-RB, NB-MB, NB-RB. After the restorative protocol, dentin penetrability was evaluated by confocal microscopy. Bond strength was evaluated by microtensile test. Data were analyzed using one-way ANOVA/Tukey tests (α=0.05). NB-RB and WB-RB exhibited greater extensions of resin tags in dentin. At 24 h, WB-RB and NB-MB showed the highest and lowest values of bond strength, respectively. At 1 year, WB-MB and WB-RB demonstrated the highest bond strength values. The RB increases the formation of resin tags and residues of bioceramic sealer provides higher bond strength in the ER strategy.

Abstract
BACKGROUND Medium-term evaluate the bond strength and tag formation in root dentin using self-adhesive cements Maxcem Elite (MCE), Relyx U200 (RU2), SeT PP (SPP) and Megalink (MGL) compared to conventional cement Relyx ARC (ARC) for glass fibre post cementation. MATERIALS AND METHODS One hundred bovine incisors roots were endodontically treated and divided into 5 groups (n = 20) according to the cementation system: MCE, RU2, SPP, MGL and ARC. All cementation systems were evaluated at 24 h (1) and 12 months (2) after post cementation. Specimens from the cervical, middle and apical thirds of the root were submitted to push-out bond strength test and confocal laser microscopy to verify the dentin penetration. The adhesive failure mode was classified as adhesive, cohesive and mixed. Data were analysed by one-way ANOVA and Tukey tests (α = 5%). RESULTS ARC-1 and ARC-12 showed the highest bond strength (P < 0.05). ARC showed the greatest tag extension, regardless of the third (P < 0.05). The most frequent failure mode in the 24-h analysis was cohesive, regardless of the cement used. For the 12-month analysis, mixed failure was the most frequent. CONCLUSION Conventional cement (ARC) showed the highest bond strength and tag extension, regardless of the evaluation period. In all cementation systems, the bond strength decreased after 12 months. © 2023 Australian Dental Association.

Abstract
Context Seal the dentin of the pulp chamber during endodontic treatment to avoid interfering with the restorative treatment performed afterward. Aims The aim was to evaluate the effect of three adhesive systems applied in different bonding strategies (etch-and-rinse, self-etch, and universal adhesive) and time-point application (immediately after the cavity access preparation or after endodontic obturation) on the hybrid layer formation and dentinal penetrability. Materials and Methods Forty-eight sound molars were randomly distributed into six groups (n = 10) according to the adhesive system used: Forty-eight sound molars were randomly distributed into six groups (n = 10) according to the adhesive system used and the time-point application: Adper Scotchbond Multi-purpose (AS), Clearfil SE (CF) and Scotchbond Universal (SU) in strategy of immediate endodontic sealing (IES) or delayed endodontic sealing (DES). In IES-AS, IES-CF, and IES-SU groups, dentin sealing was performed immediately after the cavity access, while in DES-AS, DES-CF, and DES-SU, after root canal obturation. The specimens were sectioned in the long axis, in a buccal-lingual direction, and the dentinal penetrability of the adhesive systems was evaluated using confocal microscopy images. Hybrid layer formation was analyzed by scanning electron microscopy images. Statistical Analysis Used Dentinal penetrability data were analyzed with the ANOVA test and the Kruskal-Wallis test was performed for hybrid layer data (α = 0.05). Results IES-CF showed the lowest dentinal penetrability (P < 0.05), while the other protocols were similar to each other (P > 0.05). No significant differences were found between groups regarding the hybrid layer formation (P > 0.05). Immediate and DES protocols do not influence the hybrid layer formation, regardless of the bond strategy used. Conclusions Sealing the pulp chamber dentin before endodontic treatment can improve the bond strength of the final restoration but the formation of the hybrid layer was not influenced by the bond strategy.

Abstract
OBJECTIVE To evaluate the effect of etch-and-rinse (ER) versus self-etch (SE) strategies of a universal adhesive applied with a manual brush (MB) or rotary brush (RB) on the bonding interface of fiber post cementation. METHODS Forty bovine incisor roots were prepared and divided into four groups according to the methods of application and strategy of universal adhesive use (MB-ER, RB-ER, MB-SE and RB-SE). After 6 months, specimens from different thirds of the post space were evaluated of push-out strength, analysis of adhesive failure patterns, and extent of tags. RESULTS The RB-ER and RB-SE groups showed the highest bond strength values in the cervical and middle thirds of the post space. Cohesive adhesive failure had the highest incidence in the different thirds of the post space in the ER strategy, regardless of the adhesive application method. The RB-ER group showed the highest tag extensions. CONCLUSIONS The protocols of universal adhesive application with RB provided the greater bond strength, but only the ER strategy favored the formation of a greater extension of tags at the adhesive interface. CLINICAL SIGNIFICANCE The application of universal adhesive with RB into the post space increases the strength of the post-cemented fiber bond.

Abstract
The study evaluated the persistence of residues, bond strength and tags formation of a cementation system after post-space irrigation with different sodium hypochlorite-based irrigants. The groups were divided according to the irrigation protocol (DW: distilled water; SHS: sodium hypochlorite solution; SHG: sodium hypochlorite gel; and, SHT: sodium hypochlorite with surfactant). Forty roots (n=10) were used to evaluate the persistence of residues by scanning electron microscopy. Other forty roots were used to the push-out bond strength test, failure mode and tag formation analyses. Non-parametric data were submitted to Kruskal Wallis and Dunn tests, while parametric data were evaluated by one-way ANOVA. No difference was observed in the persistence of residues. DW showed the highest bond strength and tag formation. Type 2 failure mode was the most frequent in the experimental groups. Compared to control, SHT showed the best performance, since less negative effects on adhesive interface was observed.

Abstract
This study evaluated the effect of aging and cementation of fiber posts using glass ionomer and resin cements on push-out bond strength, failure mode, and resin tag formation. One hundred and twenty bovine incisors were used. After post-space preparation, the specimens were randomly allocated into 12 groups (n = 10) according to the cementation system used: GC - GC Gold Label Luting & Lining); RL - RelyX Luting 2; MC - MaxCem Elite; RU - RelyX U200 and the aging periods (24 hours, 6 months, and 12 months). Slices from the cervical, middle, and apical thirds were obtained and analyzed by push-out bond strength test and confocal laser scanning microscopy. One-way ANOVA and Tukey's post-hoc test was used at a significance level of 5%. For the push-out bond strength test, no differences among GC, RU, and MC in the cervical and middle thirds were observed, regardless of the period of storage (P > 0.05). In the apical third, GC and RU showed similar bond strength but higher than other groups (P > 0.05). After 12 months, GC showed the highest bond strength (P < 0.05). Bond strength to post-space dentin decreased over time, regardless of the cementation system used. Cohesive failure was the most frequent, regardless of the period of storage, cementation system, and post-space third. Tag formation was similar among all groups. After 12 months, GC showed the highest bond strength values.

Abstract
OBJECTIVE This study aimed to evaluate the effect of fiber post customization on the bond strength (24 hours and 6 months), resin cement thickness, and dentinal penetrability of Adper Scotchbond Multi-Purpose - RelyX ARC (AS-RA), RelyX U200 (R2), and Scotchbond Universal - RelyX Ultimate (SU-RU) cementation systems to root dentin from the cervical-, middle-, and apical-thirds of the post space. METHODS One hundred twenty bovine incisors were endodontically treated. After post space preparation, the roots were divided into six groups, according to the luting protocols (AS-RA, R2, SU- RU) and the type of fiber post [noncustomized post (NC) and customized post (C)]. Customization procedures were peformed using a resin composite (Z350 XT). 24 hours (n=60) or 6 months later (n=60), specimens from the cervical-, middle-, and apical-thirds of the post space were submitted to cementation system thickness measurement, bond strength evaluation, and dentinal penetrability analysis with Confocal Laser Scanning Microscopy (CLSM). Failure mode was classified as adhesive, cohesive, or mixed. Data were submitted to ANOVA and Tukey tests (α=0.05). RESULTS Cementation protocols with customized fiber posts presented the lowest cementation system thickness, regardless of the cementation system or post space-third (p<0.05), and the highest bond strength values (p<0.05), regardless of the third space (p>0.05), for both periods (24 hours or 6 months). The comparison of push-out bond strength values between 24 hours and 6 months showed a reduction in all groups for the cervical-third (p<0.05). For the middle-third, only noncustomized groups showed reduction (p<0.05). For the apical-third, no reduction was observed (p>0.05). CONCLUSIONS Anatomical customization favored both the bond strength of cements to dentin and the dentinal penetrability, but with lower cementation system thickness, regardless of cement composition and adhesive strategy.

Abstract
Objective
This study aimed to compare the resin-dentin interface of sound and eroded dentin using universal and total-etch adhesive systems.
Materials and Methods
Forty caries-free extracted human premolars were collected, and the occlusal surfaces were ground by using slow speed diamond disc with copious water supply until a flat superficial dentin was exposed. The test group underwent erosive cycle (n = 20), and another group (n = 20) was reserved for control group. Erosive protocol consisted of immersion in 1.23% citric acid for 1 minute every 12 hours and stored in artificial saliva. Both the control and eroded teeth were further subdivided (n = 10) for composite restoration by using either self-etch or total-etch systems. Then the tooth samples were sectioned longitudinally and observed under confocal laser scanning microscope at ×10 magnification to evaluate resin tag length and hybrid layer thickness.
Statistical Analysis
The data obtained were analyzed by using independent t-test.
Results
The highest mean value of the resin tag length and thickness of hybrid layer was observed with total-etch system in sound dentin group compared with other groups (p < 0.001).
Conclusion
The resin-dentin interface of sound dentin was found to be better than eroded dentin by using total-etch system. The resin-dentin interface of eroded dentin was superior to sound dentin by using self-etch adhesive system.

Abstract
This study assessed the penetration of an epoxy resin-based sealer into dentinal tubules of root canals previously medicated with calcium hydroxide. Sixteen palatal root canals of upper molars were instrumented and distributed into two groups: (G1) root canals medicated with calcium hydroxide and obturated after its removal; (G2) root canals obturated without the use of dressing. Sealer mixed with rhodamine B provided fluorescence for confocal laser scanning microscopy. Measurements of area and linear penetration of the sealer were assessed in three thirds by ImageJ software. The data were statistically compared by Kruskal-Wallis, Dunn's and Mann-Whitney U tests (P < 0.01). The calcium hydroxide decreased the penetration of the sealer. The coronal and middle thirds had similar areas and linear penetrations in both groups, whereas the apical third had less penetration. In conclusion, the penetration of the epoxy resin-based sealer is influenced by the calcium hydroxide dressing used between appointments.

Abstract
OBJECTIVES To evaluate the penetration depth (μm) of experimental resin infiltrants containing different percentages of triethylene glycol dimethacrylate (TEGDMA) and phosphoric acid 2-hydroxyethyl methacrylate ester (PAM) in artificial carious white spot lesions (WSL). METHODS WSL were produced in 65 bovine flat enamel specimens by pH cycling protocol, which were treated with either Icon (control) or experimental acidic infiltrants based on different percentages of TEGDMA and PAM monomers (acidic), and their association or not with previous acid-etching with phosphoric acid. Ten readings using Confocal Laser Scanning Microscopy were conducted on each specimen and the penetration depth was calculated from the surface until the deepest point with the fluorescent dye Rhodamine B (0.02 mg/mL). The pH and the viscosity of the experimental infiltrants were also tested. Data were statistically analyzed with two-way ANOVA and Tukey tests (α < 0.05). RESULTS The material factor and the interaction material*acid-etching were statistically significant. The lowest penetration depth was observed for the samples treated with the commercial infiltrant after etching with 15% hydrochloric acid. When specimens were pre-treated with PA, highest penetration was seen for specimens treated with 100% TEGDMA, which differed from all other groups. The lowest penetration was seen for those treated with 50:50 TEGDMA:PAM infiltrants. When specimens were not previously etched, highest penetration was seen for Icon, which differed only from those treated with 25% TEGDMA 75% PAM, where the lowest values were seen. The values of viscosity increased and the pH decreased with the addition of PAM in the infiltrant formulations. CONCLUSION the association between TEGDMA and PAM seems to allow similar infiltration depth reached by Icon infiltrant without acid etching the enamel surface.
