Abstract
The lack of nanoprobes with an efficient signal response and overlook of cooperation between nanoprobes can be responsible for the unsatisfactory analytical performance of immunochromatographic strips (ITSs). Herein, asymmetrical nanobowl-confined innumerable gold nanoparticles (AuNPs) (AuNPs@AFRNBs) to enhance the light absorption are developed for quenching the fluorescence of aggregation-induced emissive (AIE) nanosilicons, which is used for the construction of a bidirectional complementary-enhanced ITS (BC-ITS) to ultrasensitively detect Salmonella typhimurium (S. typhimurium). Briefly, density functional theory-screened AIEgens with highly fluorescent brightness are confined in nanosilicons, and the nanoconfinement has improved the fluorescent brightness by 6.78-fold compared to the free AIEgens. Moreover, the substituent group effect has also enhanced the fluorescence of the prepared fluorescent nanosilicon by 10,000-fold in ITSs. By virtue of the superior light absorption of AuNPs@AFRNBs, the BC-ITS exhibits a bidirectional "win-win" performance for the sensitive monitoring of S. typhimurium: a "turn-on" mode with a high-brightness colorimetric response and an inverse "turn-off" fluorescence response, whose limits of detection are 364 and 302 CFU mL-1, respectively, which is approximately 100-fold more sensitive than the traditional AuNPs-ITS. Furthermore, the BC-ITS can be successfully used to identify S. typhimurium in milk, illustrating the superiority of the developed BC-ITS in point-of-care diagnosis.

Abstract
It is of particular importance to develop an effective method that possesses several merits simultaneously of rapid, ultrasensitive, portable, and on-site detection potential for food safety detection. Herein, we propose a clickase-mediated immunoassay based on nanopore and bionic signal labels for the detection of ricin. The introduction of Cu/Cys clickase and nanopore simultaneously effectively addressed the inherent limitations of natural enzymes and colorimetric signal output, respectively. Using this method, bionic signal labels can be easily formed through DNA and Gram-positive bacterial cell wall terminal peptide fragments (labeled by alkynyl and azide, respectively) and vancomycin. Translocation of the D-P@vancomycin through the nanopore generated highly specific oscillation current traces. This method showed a great on-site detection potential and superior analytical performance owing to the combination of the specificity of antibodies, high CuAAC click reaction catalytic efficiency of clickase, ultrasensitivity of the nanopore, and high signal resolution of D-P@vancomycin. Moreover, the practical applicability of the established method was also verified, achieving a limit of detection (LOD) down to 200.9 ag/mL with a wide linear relationship under the optimized conditions. In conclusion, this method is promising for rapid, portable, ultrasensitive, and on-site food safety detection.

Abstract
Foodborne pathogens such as Salmonella, Escherichia coli and Listeria pose significant risks to human health. The World Health Organization estimates that 2.2 million deaths per year are directly caused by foodborne and waterborne bacterial diseases worldwide. Accordingly, detecting pathogens in food is essential to ensure that our food is safe. This review explores the critical role of novel technologies in enhancing food safety practices whilst delving into adopting and integrating innovative, resilient and sustainable approaches in the food supply chain. Further, applying novel, emerging advanced analytical techniques such as Raman spectroscopy and nanotechnology based biosensors in food contamination detection is discussed. These advanced technologies show the promise of real-time monitoring, traceability, and predictive analytics to identify and mitigate potential hazards before they reach consumers. They can provide rapid and accurate results and ensure the integrity of food products. Furthermore, the herein-highlighted synergistic integration of these technologies offers a promising path toward a safer and more transparent food system, thereby addressing the challenges of today's globalised food market and laying the platform for developing multimodal technologies for affordable, sensitive and rapid pathogen detection along the different stages of the food chain, from "farm to fork".

Abstract
The rapid developments in the field of zeolitic imidazolate frameworks (ZIFs) in recent years have created unparalleled opportunities for the development of unique bioactive ZIFs for a range of biosensor applications. Integrating bioactive molecules such as DNA, aptamers, and antibodies into ZIFs to create bioactive ZIF composites has attracted great interest. Bioactive ZIF composites have been developed that combine the multiple functions of bioactive molecules with the superior chemical and physical properties of ZIFs. This review thoroughly summarizes the ZIFs as well as the novel strategies for incorporating bioactive molecules into ZIFs. They are used in many different applications, especially in biosensors. Finally, biosensor applications of bioactive ZIFs were investigated in optical (fluorescence and colorimetric) and electrochemical (amperometric, conductometric, and impedance) fields. The surface of ZIFs makes it easier to immobilize bioactive molecules like DNA, enzymes, or antibodies, which in turn enables the construction of cutting-edge, futuristic biosensors.

Abstract
How timely identification and determination of pathogen species in pathogen-contaminated foods are responsible for rapid and accurate treatments for food safety accidents. Herein, we synthesize four aggregation-induced emissive nanosilicons with different surface potentials and hydrophobicities by encapsulating four tetraphenylethylene derivatives differing in functional groups. The prepared nanosilicons are utilized as receptors to develop a nanosensor array according to their distinctive interactions with pathogens for the rapid and simultaneous discrimination of pathogens. By coupling with machine-learning algorithms, the proposed nanosensor array achieves high performance in identifying eight pathogens within 1 h with high overall accuracy (93.75-100%). Meanwhile, Cronobacter sakazakii and Listeria monocytogenes are taken as model bacteria for the quantitative evaluation of the developed nanosensor array, which can successfully distinguish the concentration of C. sakazakii and L. monocytogenes at more than 103 and 102 CFU mL-1, respectively, and their mixed samples at 105 CFU mL-1 through the artificial neural network. Moreover, eight pathogens at 1 × 104 CFU mL-1 in milk can be successfully identified by the developed nanosensor array, indicating its feasibility in monitoring food hazards.

Abstract
Due to the high toxicity of aflatoxin B1 and its risks to human health, we developed a click reaction-mediated automated fluorescent immunosensor (CAFI) for sensitive detection of aflatoxin B1 based on the Cu(I)-catalyzed click reaction. With its large specific surface area, a copper-based metal-organic framework (Cu-MOF) was synthesized to adsorb and enrich the copper ion (Cu(II)) and then load the complete antigen (BSA-AFB1). After the immunoreaction, Cu(II) inside the Cu-MOF-Antigen conjugate would be reduced to Cu(I) in the presence of sodium ascorbate, which triggered the click reaction between the fluorescent donor-modified DNA and the receptor-modified complementary DNA to lead to a fluorescence signal readout. The whole reaction steps were finished by the self-developed automated immunoreaction device. This CAFI method showed a limit of detection (LOD) of 0.48 pg/mL as well as a 670-fold enhancement in sensitivity compared to conventional ELISA, revealing its great potential in practical applications and automated detection.

Abstract
Food allergy has posed a great threat for public health due to its rising prevalence worldwide, and thus sensitive and reliable food allergen monitoring methods is of great significance. In this study, we prepared a bifunctional core-shell gold@Prussian blue nanoparticles (Au@PBNP) nanozyme, which not only could serve as an alternative to natural peroxidase for colorimetric immunoassay, but also act as a unique Raman label in Raman-silent region (1800-2800 cm-1) for SERS analysis. By combining microfluidic device, smartphone, and portable Raman spectrometer, a new smartphone/SERS dual-readout microfluidic immunoassay platform was established for portable detection of food allergic protein (i.e., alpha-lactalbumin (α-LA)). The established method for detection of α-LA showed a LOD of 0.011 ng/mL in a liner range of 0.2-600 ng/mL. Furthermore, this method was also challenged in spiked food samples with good average recoveries, showing a great potential in practical applications.

Abstract
Pathogen detection and control have long presented formidable challenges in the domains of medicine and public health. This review paper underscores the potential of nanozymes as emerging bio-mimetic enzymes that hold promise in effectively tackling these challenges. The key features and advantages of nanozymes are introduced, encompassing their comparable catalytic activity to natural enzymes, enhanced stability and reliability, cost effectiveness, and straightforward preparation methods. Subsequently, the paper delves into the detailed utilization of nanozymes for pathogen detection. This includes their application as biosensors, facilitating rapid and sensitive identification of diverse pathogens, including bacteria, viruses, and plasmodium. Furthermore, the paper explores strategies employing nanozymes for pathogen control, such as the regulation of reactive oxygen species (ROS), HOBr/Cl regulation, and clearance of extracellular DNA to impede pathogen growth and transmission. The review underscores the vast potential of nanozymes in pathogen detection and control through numerous specific examples and case studies. The authors highlight the efficiency, rapidity, and specificity of pathogen detection achieved with nanozymes, employing various strategies. They also demonstrate the feasibility of nanozymes in hindering pathogen growth and transmission. These innovative approaches employing nanozymes are projected to provide novel options for early disease diagnoses, treatment, and prevention. Through a comprehensive discourse on the characteristics and advantages of nanozymes, as well as diverse application approaches, this paper serves as a crucial reference and guide for further research and development in nanozyme technology. The expectation is that such advancements will significantly contribute to enhancing disease control measures and improving public health outcomes.

Abstract
Inspired by a biomineralization behavior, we prepared a nanoflower-like artificial clickase (namely LCN clickase) for portable and sensitive click SERS immunoassay of foodborne bacterial pathogen. Encouraged by its high click catalytic activity to trigger Cu(I)-catalyzed azide-alkyne cycloaddition reaction, LCN clickase was successfully used for establishing a novel click SERS immunoassay by combining the clickase-mediated SERS signal variation at Raman-silent region. The developed method not only effectively eliminated the interferences between Raman reporter and biological species, but also reduced the complex sample matrix interference. Compared with traditional CuAAC-based immunoassays, the established method avoided the superfluous dissolution process of nanocatalysts and eliminated the requirement of reducing agent during detection, thereby shortening detection time and improving detection reliability. Impressively, the proposed method showed high selectivity and sensitivity for detection of Salmonella enterica serovar Paratyphi B with a low LOD of 20 CFU/mL, exhibiting a great potential in detection of foodborne bacterial pathogen in food samples.

Abstract
Rapid, sensitive and simultaneous detection of multiple bacteria in foodborne is still a major challenge in public health field. Here, a fluorescence immunoassay that can achieve high-throughput detection of three Gram-positive foodborne pathogenic bacteria simultaneously was proposed. Vancomycin and bovine serum albumin conjugate (Van-BSA) was immobilized on a polycarbonate chip to capture three Gram-positive foodborne pathogenic bacteria, Staphylococcus aureus (S. aureus), Bacillus cereus (B. cereus) and Listeria monocytogenes (L. monocytogenes). CdSe/ZnS quantum dot modified antibodies (Ab-QD) were prepared by carbodiimide coupling chemistry. Due to the affinity reaction between antibodies and proteins on the bacterial surface, the simultaneous detection of multiple Gram-positive bacteria was achieved by monitoring the fluorescence signal of quantum dot by a portable microfluidic chip analyzer. Under optimal conditions, low detection limits was 18 CFU/well, 3 CFU/well and 36 CFU/well for S. aureus, B. cereus and L. monocytogenes, respectively. With satisfactory accuracy and precision, the proposed fluorescence immunoassay holds good prospects to detect pathogens in real food samples.

Abstract
Herein, based on an artificial clickase-catalyzed bio-conjugation strategy, we established a sensitive fluorescent clickase-linked immunosorbent assay (FCLISA) platform using an oligonucleotide-molecular beacon (Oligo-MB) hairpin structure as a fluorescence switch for detection of food allergenic protein. Firstly, a highly stable Cu(I)-containing nanocube was prepared for usage as an artificial clickase, which could catalyze the bio-conjugation of two short oligonucleotides (i.e., Oligo-A and Oligo-B labeled by a 5'-alkyne and a 3'-azide group, respectively) through clickase-catalyzed azide/alkyne cycloaddition reaction. Subsequently, the formed long-chain oligonucleotide (Oligo-A-B) could hybridize with Oligo-MB hairpin to open hairpin structure, leading to its fluorescence turn on. By using clickase as an alternative enzymatic label in conventional ELISAs, the established FCLISA showed high sensitivity and accuracy in detection of casein, achieving a limit of detection as low as 1.5 × 10-8 g/mL. Additionally, FCLISA has been challenged by detecting the casein in real samples, indicating a great potential in food safety assay.

Abstract
Transition metal catalysts (TMCs), capable of performing bioorthogonal reactions, have been engineered to trigger the formation of bioactive molecules in a controlled manner for biomedical applications. However, the widespread use of TMCs based biorthogonal reactions in vivo is still largely limited owing to their toxicity, poor stability, and insufficient targeting properties. The emergence of nanozymes (nanomaterials with enzyme-like activity), especially bioorthogonal nanozymes that combine the bioorthogonal catalytic activity of TMCs, the physicochemical properties of nanomaterials, and the enzymatic properties of classical nanozymes potentially provide opportunities to address these challenges. Thus, they can be used as multifunctional catalytic platforms for disease treatment and will be far-reaching. In this review, we first briefly recall the classical TMC-based bioorthogonal reactions. Furthermore, this review highlights the diverse strategies for manufacturing bioorthogonal nanozymes and their potential for therapeutic applications, with the goal of facilitating bioorthogonal catalysis in the clinic. Finally, we present challenges and the prospects of bioorthogonal nanozymes in bioorthogonal chemistry.

Abstract
With the rapid growth in global food production, delivery, and consumption, reformative food analytical techniques are required to satisfy the monitoring requirements of speed and high sensitivity. Nanozyme-encoded luminescent detections (NLDs) integrating nanozyme-based rapid detections with luminescent output signals have emerged as powerful methods for food safety monitoring, not only because of their preeminent performance in analysis, such as rapid, facile, low background signal, and ultrasensitive, but also due to their strong attractiveness for future sensing research. However, the lack of a full understanding of the fundamentals of NLDs for food safety detection technologies limits their further application. In this review, a systematic overview of the mechanisms of NLDs and their applications in the food industry is summarized, which covers the nanozyme-mimicking types and their luminescent signal generation mechanisms, as well as their applications in monitoring common foodborne contaminants. As demonstrated by previous studies, NLDs are bridging the gap to practical-oriented food analytical technologies and various opportunities to improve their food analytical performance to be considered in the future are proposed.

Abstract
With the concept of sustainable agriculture receiving increasing attention from humankind, nanozymes, nanomaterials with enzyme-like activity but higher environmental endurance and longer-term stability than natural enzymes, have enabled agricultural technologies to be reformative, economic, and portable. Benefiting from their multiple catalytic activities and renewable nanocharacteristics, nanozymes can shine in agricultural scenarios using enzyme engineering and nanoscience, acting as sustainable toolboxes to improve agricultural production and reduce the risk to agricultural systems. Herein, we comprehensively discuss the classifications of nanozymes applied in current agriculture, including peroxidase-like, oxidase-like, catalase-like, superoxide dismutase-like, and laccase-like nanozymes, as well as their biocatalytic mechanisms. Especially, different applications of nanozymes in agriculture are deeply reviewed, covering crop protection and nutrition, agroenvironmental remediation and monitoring, and agroproduct quality monitoring. Finally, the challenges faced by nanozymes in agricultural applications are proposed, and we expect that our review can further enhance agricultural sustainability through nanozymology.

Abstract
The ongoing coronavirus disease 2019 (COVID-19) pandemic caused by severe acute respiratory syndrome coronavirus 2 (SARS-CoV-2) has caused great public health concern and has been a global threat due to its high transmissibility and morbidity. Although the SARS-CoV-2 transmission mainly relies on the person-to-person route through the respiratory droplets, the possible transmission through the contaminated cold-chain food and packaging to humans has raised widespread concerns. This review discussed the possibility of SARS-CoV-2 transmission via the contaminated cold-chain food and packaging by tracing the occurrence, the survival of SARS-CoV-2 in the contaminated cold-chain food and packaging, as well as the transmission and outbreaks related to the contaminated cold-chain food and packaging. Rapid, accurate, and reliable diagnostics of SARS-CoV-2 is of great importance for preventing and controlling the COVID-19 resurgence. Therefore, we summarized the recent advances on the emerging clustered regularly interspaced short palindromic repeats (CRISPR)/Cas system-based biosensing technology that is promising and powerful for preventing the possible COVID-19 resurgence caused by the contaminated cold-chain food and packaging during the COVID-19 pandemic, including CRISPR/Cas system-based biosensors and their integration with portable devices (e.g., smartphone, lateral flow assays, microfluidic chips, and nanopores). Impressively, this review not only provided an insight on the possibility of SARS-CoV-2 transmission through the food supply chain, but also proposed the future opportunities and challenges on the development of CRISPR/Cas system-based detection methods for the diagnosis of SARS-CoV-2.

Abstract
Infectious pathogens cause severe human illnesses and great deaths per year worldwide. Rapid, sensitive, and accurate detection of pathogens is of great importance for preventing infectious diseases caused by pathogens and optimizing medical healthcare systems. Inspired by a microbial defense system (i.e., CRISPR/ CRISPR-associated proteins (Cas) system, an adaptive immune system for protecting microorganisms from being attacked by invading species), a great many new biosensors have been successfully developed and widely applied in the detection of infectious viruses and pathogenic bacteria. Moreover, advanced nanotechnologies have also been integrated into these biosensors to improve their detection stability, sensitivity, and accuracy. In this review, the recent advance in CRISPR/Cas systems-based nano/biosensors and their applications in the detection of infectious viruses and pathogenic bacteria are comprehensively reviewed. First of all, the categories and working principles of CRISPR/Cas systems for establishing the nano/biosensors are simply introduced. Then, the design and construction of CRISPR/Cas systems-based nano/biosensors are comprehensively discussed. In the end, attentions are focused on the applications of CRISPR/Cas systems-based nano/biosensors in the detection of infectious viruses and pathogenic bacteria. Impressively, the remaining opportunities and challenges for the further design and development of CRISPR/Cas system-based nano/biosensors and their promising applications are proposed.

Abstract
Rapid and reliable multiplex detection of foodborne pathogens is in great demand for ensuring food safety and preventing foodborne diseases. In this study, we developed a highly sensitive SERS immunosensor for the simultaneous detection of multiple foodborne pathogens. Novel biologic interference-free Raman tags synthesized by using the covalent organic frameworks (COF) TBDP as nanocontainer to load biologic interference-free Raman reporters and specific antibodies for interested targets were used to convert and amplify signals of foodborne pathogens. In addition, lectin functionalized magnetic nanoparticles (MNPs@Con A) which could efficiently bind to the carbohydrate constituents on the surface of pathogens were prepared to capture and isolate multiple pathogens simultaneously. The recognition of the target foodborne pathogen impels the generation of sandwich-like composites of MNPs@Con A/pathogen/TBDP@Raman tags, and these composites could be quickly separated from the sample matrix with the assistance of an external magnet. Besides, a mass of Raman reporters was released by eluting the collected MNPs@Con A/pathogen/TBDP@Raman tags composites. Combined with a portable Raman system, characteristic Raman signals (2271 and 2113 cm-1) of the occupied reporters located at the biologic interference-free region were observed and used for the simultaneous detection of two different foodborne pathogenic strains. And an equal limit of detection of 101 CFU/mL was achieved for each strain. This strategy provides new insight into the application of SERS in the detection of pathogenic bacteria.

Abstract
Rapid and sensitive detection technologies for food contaminants play vital roles in food safety. Due to the complexity of the food matrix and the trace amount distribution, traditional methods often suffer from unsatisfying accuracy, sensitivity, or specificity. In past decades, single-molecule detection (SMD) has emerged as a way to realize the rapid and ultrasensitive measurement with low sample consumption, showing a great potential in food contaminants detection. For instance, based on the nanopore technique, simple and effective methods for single-molecule analysis of food contaminants have been developed. To our knowledge, there has been a rare review that focuses on SMD techniques for food safety. The present review attempts to cover some typical SMD methods in food safety, including electrochemistry, optical spectrum, and atom force microscopy. Then, recent applications of these techniques for detecting food contaminants such as biotoxins, pesticides, heavy metals, and illegal additives are reviewed. Finally, existing research challenges and future trends of SMD in food safety are also tentatively proposed.

Abstract
This work demonstrated an ultrasensitive and simple microfluidic immunosensor for point-of-care test of Staphylococcus aureus (S. aureus) based on the stir bar enrichment and DNAzyme-assisted click reaction. Initially, S. aureus was enriched by the 4-mercaptophenylboronic acid-functionalized stir bar. The yolk antibody (immunoglobulin Y) and copper-labeled polydopamine nanoparticles were then specifically conjugated with the captured target. The Cu(II) was released under acidic conditions and effectively catalyzed the copper-catalyzed azide-alkyne cycloaddition (CuAAC) between the alkyne group-labeled DNAzyme and the streptavidin-biotin-azido with the assistance of DNAzyme. Finally, the DNAzyme-streptavidin complexes were detected by microfluidic chips to quantify S. aureus. Under optimum conditions, this immunosensor showed good detection performances toward S. aureus within 10 to 2.5 × 104 CFU/mL with a limit of detection of 3 CFU/mL. Moreover, the satisfying detection results of real samples of animal origin also implied that this immunosensor owned great potential in practical applications.

Abstract
Nanozymes as a cost-effective and robust enzyme mimic have attracted widespread attention in the development of novel analytical methods. Herein, a new nanozyme-enhanced surface-enhanced Raman scattering (SERS) immunoassay platform was successfully developed using a peroxidase-mimicking nanozyme to replace the natural enzymes as a catalytic label of the enzyme-linked immunosorbent assay for the detection of allergy proteins. In this platform, the peroxidase-mimicking nanozymes as a catalytic label could catalyze the oxidation of the Raman-inactive reporter [i.e., leucomalachite green (LMG)] to generate Raman-active malachite green (MG) with H2O2. Moreover, the produced MG Raman signal was further enhanced by the formed Raman "hot spot" through MG-induced gold nanoparticle aggregation, which could be recorded by a portable Raman spectrometer. On this basis, the established nanozyme-enhanced SERS immunoassay showed improved accuracy, high sensitivity, and good selectivity and was used for accurate quantification of α-lactalbumin (α-LA). With this method, α-LA could be detected with a limit of detection as low as 0.01 ng/mL. Moreover, the method was also verified by performing in food samples and showed satisfactory recoveries and high reliability. This study not only provides insight into the use of a nanozyme to establish new analytical methods but also broadens the applications of nanozymes in a food safety assay.

Abstract
Accurate and rapid quantification of foodborne pathogens is of great significance for food safety and human health. In this work, we have successfully constructed a fluorescence quenching collapsar probe (FQCP) on the basis of a conventional aptamer-encoded molecular beacon (AEMB) and applied it for the detection of Salmonella. In structure, the FQCP is assembled by AEMBs in fours via specific streptavidin and biotin binding. Such a simple format makes the FQCP cofunctionalized with short- and long-range fluorescence resonance energy transfer (FRET) effects, thereby leading to a significantly suppressed inherent background fluorescence that is much lower than that of the conventional AEMB. Moreover, the FQCP exhibits superior biostability because of the blocking of its 3' terminal. The reaction kinetics of the FQCP for Salmonella recognition is obviously improved since the probe designed with four binding sites increases the probability to react with Salmonella. As a result, the FQCP-based sensing platform can rapidly output the target detection signal within 30 min associated with a greatly improved signal-to-noise ratio up to 32.4. The system was also demonstrated with a well antimatrix effect for ultrasensitive detection of Salmonella from tap water, milk, red bull, green tea, orange juice, and Coca-Cola. Our study provides insights into the facile tailoring of functional nucleic acids for amplified and mix-to-answer detection of foodborne pathogens, which could become a powerful analytical tool for straightforward sensing of pathogens in the fields of food safety analysis, clinical diagnostics, and environmental monitoring.

Abstract
The copper(I)-catalyzed azide-alkyne cycloaddition (CuAAC) click reaction has becoming noticeable in the field of analytical chemistry. Mild reaction conditions, simple operation, high efficiency, and good regioselectivity make this classical click reaction a perfect strategy for chemical derivatization. Herein, we proposed a promising click fluorescent labeling method with high selectivity for the determination of five steroid hormones in food samples. The labeling strategy depends on the reaction between 3-Azido-7-hydroxycoumarin and the alkynyl group of steroid hormones, which shows a turn-on fluorescence response in the presence of copper (I). The formed fluorescent products were detected by HPLC-FLD. Under the optimized conditions, the proposed method presented excellent performance with good linearity (R2 ≥ 0.9998) and low detection limit (1.8-7.3 μg L-1). Further, satisfactory recoveries were obtained to be 82-107% in spiked meats with relative standard deviations (RSDs) ≤ 5.7%. Finally, the established method was successfully applied for the determination of steroid hormones in meat, indicating the potential prospect of the click reaction in chemical derivatization.
