Abstract
Covalent organic frameworks (COFs) have historically been of interest to researchers in different areas due to their distinctive characteristics, including well-ordered pores, large specific surface area, and structural tunability. In the past few years, as COF synthesis techniques developed, COF-based composites fabricated by integrating COFs and other functional materials including various kinds of metal or metal oxide nanoparticles, ionic liquids, metal-organic frameworks, silica, polymers, enzymes and carbon nanomaterials have emerged as a novel kind of porous hybrid material. Herein, we first provide a thorough summary of advanced strategies for preparing COF-based composites; then, the emerging applications of COF-based composites in diverse fields due to their synergistic effects are systematically highlighted, including analytical chemistry (sensing, extraction, membrane separation, and chromatographic separation) and catalysis. Finally, the current challenges associated with future perspectives of COF-based composites are also briefly discussed to inspire the advancement of more COF-based composites with excellent properties.

Abstract
A covalent organic framework (COF) was used as the support of the catalyst in this work in order to obtain an environmentally friendly catalyst with high catalytic performance, selectivity and stability for 4-nitrophenol hydrogenation. Pd tiny particles are fixed in the cavity of COF to obtain Pd/COF catalysts, which has a quite narrow particle size distribution (5.09 ± 1.30 nm). As-prepared Pd/COF catalysts (Pd loading-2.11 wt%) shows excellent catalytic performance (conversion - 99.3%, selectivity >99.0% and turnover frequency (TOF)-989.4 h-1) for 4-nitrophenol hydrogenation under relatively mild reaction conditions of reaction temperature-40 °C and reaction pressure-3.0 MPa H2, and Pd/COF catalysts have high stability. Pd/COF catalysts were characterized by X-ray diffraction (XRD), X-ray photoelectron spectroscopy (XPS), scanning electron microscope energy-dispersive X-ray spectroscopy (SEM-EDS), transmission electron microscope (TEM), high resolution TEM (HRTEM), Brunauer-Emmett-Teller (BET), scanning TEM energy-dispersive X-ray spectroscopy (STEM-EDS) elemental analysis techniques to prove that the Pd nanoparticles are highly dispersed on the COF. Pd/COF catalysts have good stability and reusability hence with certain industrial application value.

Abstract
Modulating the photocatalytic properties of polyoxometalate-organic hybrids through counterion substitution is a less explored concept. In this study, a new series of aromatic sulfonium counterions (ASCs) having the general formula X-C6H4-S(Me2)+, where X represents different functional substituents such as -H, -Cl, -Me, and -CHO at the para-position of the sulfonium moiety on a benzene ring, have been used for fine-tuning the optical bandgaps and adsorption properties of octamolybdate [Mo8O26]4- hybrids for photocatalytic dye degradation applications. The photodegradation of rhodamine B (RhB) is used as a model reaction, which follows pseudo-first-order kinetics exhibiting counterion-dependent degradation rate constants. The hybrid catalyst bearing a -CHO substituent on the ASC showed the lowest bandgap (2.91 eV) and the highest degradation rate constant (0.0141 min-1) of the series. A possible mechanism of photocatalytic dye degradation by hybrids involving the generation of reactive oxygen species (ROS) has been proposed, supported by radical scavenging studies. The intermediates formed during the photodegradation of RhB were analyzed and identified using electrospray ionization mass spectrometry (ESI-MS). The present study reveals a new strategy for tuning the photocatalytic properties of hybrids using differently functionalized ASCs and opens up new avenues for novel POM-hybrids as potential photocatalysts for environmental remediation applications.

Abstract
Photocatalysis is an advanced technique that transforms solar energy into sustainable fuels and oxidizes pollutants via the aid of semiconductor photocatalysts. The main scientific and technological challenges for effective photocatalysis are the stability, robustness, and efficiency of semiconductor photocatalysts. For practical applications, researchers are trying to develop highly efficient and stable photocatalysts. Since the literature is highly scattered, it is urgent to write a critical review that summarizes the state-of-the-art progress in the design of a variety of semiconductor composite photocatalysts for energy and environmental applications. Herein, a comprehensive review is presented that summarizes an overview, history, mechanism, advantages, and challenges of semiconductor photocatalysis. Further, the recent advancements in the design of heterostructure photocatalysts including alloy quantum dots based composites, carbon based composites including carbon nanotubes, carbon quantum dots, graphitic carbon nitride, and graphene, covalent-organic frameworks based composites, metal based composites including metal carbides, metal halide perovskites, metal nitrides, metal oxides, metal phosphides, and metal sulfides, metal-organic frameworks based composites, plasmonic materials based composites and single atom based composites for CO2 conversion, H2 evolution, and pollutants oxidation are discussed elaborately. Finally, perspectives for further improvement in the design of composite materials for efficient photocatalysis are provided.
