Abstract
U(VI) peroxides are important within the nuclear fuel cycle, but reactive oxygen species (ROS) can form upon oxidation. Herein, we identified the spectral signatures of a U(VI) diperoxosuperoxide complex (KUPS-1) and observed that the transformation of U(VI) triperoxide (KUT-1) to superoxide forms occurred with trace-level Cr. U(VI) superoxide complexes were identified in EPR solution spectra without the use of spin-traps.

Abstract
Introduction The issues associated with the limitation of appropriate autologous vessels for vascular reconstruction via bypass surgery highlight the need for new alternative strategies based on tissue engineering. The present study aimed to prepare decellularized scaffolds from ovine carotid using chemical decellularization method. Methods Ovine carotid were decellularized with Triton X-100 and tri-n-butyl phosphate (TnBP) at 37 °C. Histological analysis, biochemical tests, biomechanical assay and biocompatibility assay were used to investigate the efficacy of decellularization. Results Decellularization method could successfully decellularize ovine carotid without leaving any cell remnants. Scaffolds showed minimal destruction of the three-dimensional structure and extracellular matrix, as well as adequate mechanical resistance and biocompatibility for cell growth and proliferation. Conclusion Prepared acellular scaffold exhibited the necessary characteristics for clinical applications.

Abstract
Studies about the reaction of ZrIV ions with peroxides and the properties of the resulting zirconium peroxide clusters are significant for understanding zirconium chemistry in the nuclear fuel cycle and the advancement of less explored Group IV metal oxo clusters. Herein, an octanuclear zirconium peroxide cluster, designated as Zr8, was synthesized and characterized by using multiple techniques. Crystallographic analysis revealed that Zr8 has a ringlike structure and unusual positive charges, while tetravalent metal oxo clusters are mostly neutral. In situ variable-temperature Raman spectra indicated that Zr8 has unexpected thermal stability, which may be related to the strong interaction between ZrIV ions and peroxide groups. Small-angle X-ray scattering data showed that Zr8 self-assembled in the reactant solution prior to crystallization. In short, Zr8 expands the limited family of zirconium peroxide clusters and enriches the properties of metal peroxides.

Abstract
This review summarizes the recent developments regarding the use of uranium as nuclear fuel, including recycling and health aspects, elucidated from a chemical point of view, i.e., emphasizing the rich uranium coordination chemistry, which has also raised interest in using uranium compounds in synthesis and catalysis. A number of novel uranium coordination features are addressed, such the emerging number of U(II) complexes and uranium nitride complexes as a promising class of materials for more efficient and safer nuclear fuels. The current discussion about uranium triple bonds is addressed by quantum chemical investigations using local vibrational mode force constants as quantitative bond strength descriptors based on vibrational spectroscopy. The local mode analysis of selected uranium nitrides, N≡U≡N, U≡N, N≡U=NH and N≡U=O, could confirm and quantify, for the first time, that these molecules exhibit a UN triple bond as hypothesized in the literature. We hope that this review will inspire the community interested in uranium chemistry and will serve as an incubator for fruitful collaborations between theory and experimentation in exploring the wealth of uranium chemistry.

Abstract
Modeling of plutonium(IV) behavior during an accidental fire in a reprocessing plant was considered using various non-radioactive metallic surrogates. Among those elements, cerium(IV) was supposed to be a suitable candidate due to possible formation of a complex with TPB, but its extractability and stability have not been studied previously under representative plutonium uranium reduction extraction (PUREX) conditions. In this work, we investigated the chemical analogy between cerium(IV) and plutonium(IV) in this extractive process and combustion thereof. Distribution ratios are reported for acidities of 1-4 mol L-1 in equal volumes of nitric acid and a 30:70 mixture of tributylphosphate and hydrogenated tetrapropylene. The influences of light, temperature, and extraction time were studied by UV-vis spectroscopy. The results showed that cerium(IV) is extracted quantitatively but is reduced over time to cerium(III) in the organic mixture. Spectrophotometric investigations of this reaction kinetics revealed an apparent rate constant k of 0.021 ± 0.002 mol0.5 L0.5 min-1 at 298 K and an apparent fractional reaction order of 0.5. The activation energy of this reduction was found to be around 82 ± 2 kJ mol-1 by the Arrhenius plot method. The combustion of mono- and biphasic solutions prepared with a cerium(IV) concentration of 10 g L-1 revealed that the extracted complexes, Ce2O·6NO3·3TBP(org) or Ce4O4·8NO3·6TBP(org), are reduced during the combustion. Compositions of the resulting ashes and soot were analyzed and highlighted the presence of pyrophosphates and polycyclic aromatic hydrocarbons, with some traces of cerium. Ce(IV) is not suitable to represent Pu(IV) from a chemical point of view in HNO3/TBP-HTP solutions.
