Abstract
Shape-memory polymers (SMPs) have demonstrated potential for use in automotive, biomedical, and aerospace industries. However, ensuring the sustainability of these materials remains a challenge. Herein, a sustainable approach to synthesize a semicrystalline polymer using biomass-derivable precursors via catalyst-free polyesterification is presented. The synthesized biodegradable polymer, poly(1,8-octanediol-co-1,12-dodecanedioate-co-citrate) (PODDC), exhibits excellent shape-memory properties, as evidenced by good shape fixity and shape recovery ratios of 98%, along with a large reversible actuation strain of 28%. Without the use of a catalyst, the mild polymerization enables the reconfiguration of the partially cured two-dimensional (2D) film to a three-dimensional (3D) geometric form in the middle process. This study appears to be a step forward in developing sustainable SMPs and a simple way for constructing a 3D structure of a permanent shape.

Abstract
Poly(lactic acid) (PLA) is considered the most promising biobased substitute for fossil-derived polymers due to its compostability, biocompatibility, renewability, and good thermomechanical properties. However, PLA suffers from several shortcomings, such as low heat distortion temperature, thermal resistance, and rate of crystallization, whereas some other specific properties, i.e., flame retardancy, anti-UV, antibacterial or barrier properties, antistatic to conductive electrical characteristics, etc., are required by different end-use sectors. The addition of different nanofillers represents an attractive way to develop and enhance the properties of neat PLA. Numerous nanofillers with different architectures and properties have been investigated, with satisfactory achievements, in the design of PLA nanocomposites. This review paper overviews the current advances in the synthetic routes of PLA nanocomposites, the imparted properties of each nano-additive, as well as the numerous applications of PLA nanocomposites in various industrial fields.

Synergistic reinforcing and cross-linking effect of thiol-ene-modified cellulose nanofibrils on natural rubber. Carbohydr Polym 2022; 278:118954. Abstract
To achieve synergistic reinforcing and cross-linking effect across interface between hydrophilic nanocellulose and hydrophobic rubber, active thiol groups were introduced at reducing end of CNF while retaining hydroxyl groups on the surface, thus forming a percolation network in nanocomposites. The nanocomposites were obtained by casting/evaporating a mixture of dispersed modified CNF and NR in latex form, in which covalent cross-links were formed between thiol groups and double bonds of NR via photochemically initiated thiol-ene reaction. Strong interfacial interaction between NR matrix and end-modified CNF was characterized by Fourier-transform infrared spectroscopy. The structural and mechanical properties of the nanocomposites were evaluated by scanning electron microscopy, dynamic mechanical analysis and tensile tests. Compared to neat NR, the nanocomposite reinforced with 10 wt% modified CNF showed significantly higher values of tensile strength (0.33 to 5.83 MPa), Young's modulus (0.48 to 45.25 MPa) and toughness (2.63 to 22.24 MJ m-3).

Abstract
We have developed a green and versatile method to prepare hierarchically porous Cu3(BTC)2@carboxymethyl chitosan (HKUST-1@CMCS) with a macroscopic shape control and designable performance via the cross-linking of Cu(II) ions with CMCS. Furthermore, atomic force microscopy, scanning electron microscopy, powder X-ray diffraction, Brunauer-Emmett-Teller, and X-ray photoelectron spectroscopy analyses showed that the morphology of HKUST-1 could be controlled and changed by tailoring the surface roughness ( Rq) of polymer matrix. For the ball-like, fiberlike, and membrane-like composites, the matrix Rq values were 887, 88.4, and 18.2 nm and the average sizes of HKUST-1 crystals were about 10.2, 5.9, and 1.7 μm, respectively. It was found that the larger the Rq of the polymer matrix, the higher the drug payload. The results of drug release showed that the release percentage of dimethyl fumarate from HKUST-1@CMCS was 66% in 326 h, whereas that of Cu@CMCS was only 12 h. Obviously, the HKUST-1@CMCS had a long-acting and sustained release property compared to that of Cu@CMCS due to its complementary advantages of metal-organic frameworks (MOFs) and polymers. Therefore, this study not only provided an interesting way to make up for the shortcomings of MOFs and natural polymer but also developed a long-acting delivery system for a huge potential application prospect.

Abstract
We designed novel self-healing thermoplastic vulcanizates (TPVs), achieving excellent thermal/magnetic/light-triggered shape memory assisted self-healing behavior. Damage on polylactide (PLA)/epoxidized natural rubber (ENR)/Fe3O4 TPVs could be healed via three events synergistically: the shape memory effect of TPVs resulted in the physical contact of damaged surfaces; the desorption-absorption of ENR/Fe3O4-bound rubber promoted interdiffusion of ENR chains, leading to the self-healing of ENR phase; ENR was grafted onto PLA segments to assist PLA rearranging and entangling again to achieve the repair of TPVs. This self-healing TPV is reported for the first time and paves the way to design next-generation self-healing materials.
