Abstract
A new open-framework tin(II) sulfate, formulated as C4H12N2·Sn(SO4)2·H2O, was prepared under the structure-directing effect of piperazine. This compound features a 3D structure with 16-ring channels. Under ultraviolet light irradiation, it emits bright yellow luminescence with a near-unity photoluminescence quantum yield. Theoretical calculations were carried out to understand the luminescence mechanism.

Abstract
Birefringent materials play an important role in laser techniques as an essential part of optical devices. Therefore, the exploration of high-performance birefringent materials has been a central focus of researchers. Herein, two tin(II) fluoride oxalates Na4Sn4(C2O4)3F6 and NaSnC2O4F·H2O were gained by the combination of birefringence-active groups of Sn2+ with stereochemically active lone pairs and planar π-conjugated [C2O4]2- groups. These groups assemble into low-dimensional structures of 0D [C2O4F4]6- clusters and 1D [SnC2O4F]∞- chains in Na4Sn4(C2O4)3F6, and double [Sn2(C2O4)2F2]∞2- chains in NaSnC2O4F·H2O, which gives rise to the large birefringence of 0.160@546 nm and 0.189@546 nm, respectively. Detailed structure-property analysis and theoretical calculations indicate that strong optical anisotropy can be induced by the rational arrangement of the Sn2+-polyhedra and [C2O4]2- groups.

Abstract
Currently, short-wavelength nonlinear optical materials are urgently needed. Through substituting homoleptic [LiO4] in centrosymmetric LiRbSO4 with heteroleptic [LiO3Cl] tetrahedra, an acentric sulfate chloride, Li2RbSO4Cl, was designed and synthesized by the high-temperature melting method. Li2RbSO4Cl shows a relatively short ultraviolet absorption edge (<200 nm) among newly reported sulfate chlorides. Millimeter-sized crystals were grown due to the congruent melting behavior and high thermal stability of the compound.

Abstract
Oxide nonlinear optical (NLO) crystals have drawn wide interest for their comprehensive physical performances including wide infrared (IR) transparency ranges, large band gaps, and good stability in open air. Here, two isostructural germanate oxides, Pb5(GeO4)(Ge2O7) (1) and Pb3.32Ca1.68(GeO4)(Ge2O7) (2), adopting the noncentrosymmetric (NCS) space group P6̅, were composed via a conventional solid-state reaction. The latter was designed by the partial cation substitution strategy based on parent 1. The whole structures of 1 and 2 are composed of isolated distorted GeO4 tetrahedra, Ge2O7 dimers, and diverse M (M = Pb, Ca, or Pb/Ca)-centered polyhedra. They exhibit second-harmonic generation (SHG) responses around 3.3 and 1.4 times that of KH2PO4 (KDP) under 1.064 μm laser radiation, respectively. Theoretical calculation results reveal that the Pb2+ cations with stereo-active long pair (SCALP) electrons of 1 favor the large SHG response, while Pb-based polyhedra showing inert SCALP electrons make predominant contributions to the moderate SHG effect of 2.

Exploration of the Crystal Structure and Thermal and Spectroscopic Properties of Monoclinic Praseodymium Sulfate Pr2(SO4)3. Molecules 2022; 27:molecules27133966. [PMID: 35807213 PMCID: PMC9267875 DOI: 10.3390/molecules27133966] [Citation(s) in RCA: 3] [Impact Index Per Article: 1.5] [Reference Citation Analysis] [Abstract] [Track Full Text] [Download PDF] [Figures] [Journal Information] [Subscribe] [Scholar Register] [Received: 05/31/2022] [Revised: 06/15/2022] [Accepted: 06/17/2022] [Indexed: 02/01/2023] Open
Abstract
Praseodymium sulfate was obtained by the precipitation method and the crystal structure was determined by Rietveld analysis. Pr2(SO4)3 is crystallized in the monoclinic structure, space group C2/c, with cell parameters a = 21.6052 (4), b = 6.7237 (1) and c = 6.9777 (1) Å, β = 107.9148 (7)°, Z = 4, V = 964.48 (3) Å3 (T = 150 °C). The thermal expansion of Pr2(SO4)3 is strongly anisotropic. As was obtained by XRD measurements, all cell parameters are increased on heating. However, due to a strong increase of the monoclinic angle β, there is a direction of negative thermal expansion. In the argon atmosphere, Pr2(SO4)3 is stable in the temperature range of T = 30–870 °C. The kinetics of the thermal decomposition process of praseodymium sulfate octahydrate Pr2(SO4)3·8H2O was studied as well. The vibrational properties of Pr2(SO4)3 were examined by Raman and Fourier-transform infrared absorption spectroscopy methods. The band gap structure of Pr2(SO4)3 was evaluated by ab initio calculations, and it was found that the valence band top is dominated by the p electrons of oxygen ions, while the conduction band bottom is formed by the d electrons of Pr3+ ions. The exact position of ZPL is determined via PL and PLE spectra at 77 K to be at 481 nm, and that enabled a correct assignment of luminescent bands. The maximum luminescent band in Pr2(SO4)3 belongs to the 3P0 → 3F2 transition at 640 nm.

Abstract
Organic-inorganic hybrid metal halides (OIMHs) exhibiting white-light emission are a splendid class of emitters and are regarded as desired phosphors for solid-state lighting applications. Here we report a single-component white-light-emitting hybrid metal halide, namely, [C6H7ClN]CdCl3 (C6H7ClN = 4-(chloromethyl)pyridinium), which features a corrugated 1D anionic double chain composed of edge-shared CdCl6 octahedrons and exhibits broadband white-light emission with a photoluminescence quantum yield of 12.3% under 365 nm UV light irradiation. Density functional theory calculations and temperature-dependent emission spectral analysis unveil that the broadband emission of [C6H7ClN]CdCl3 is ascribed to self-trapped excitons. Moreover, a single-component white-light-emitting diode device with a correlated color temperature of 5214 K and color rendering index of 83.7 can be fabricated via coating [C6H7ClN]CdCl3 on a 365 nm UV light-emitting diode chip. Such a promising luminescent material provides guidance for the design and synthesis of OIMHs with unique structures and desired properties.

Abstract
Oxyhalides possessing the merits of oxides and halides have widely received attention for their comprehensive physical performances, especially as potential nonlinear optical (NLO) crystals. Here, based on conventional strategy for obtaining acentric compounds, a Te4+ lone-pair cation was introduced into oxyhalides, and one oxyfluoride, HgTeO2F(OH), was obtained via a hydrothermal reaction. Crystallized in the polar space group Pca21, the layered structure of HgTeO2F(OH) is composed of V-shaped [HgO2]2- groups and [TeO2F(OH)]2- pyramids, in which the [TeO2F(OH)]2- pyramid first served as the NLO functional motif. Its powder sample exhibits a phase-matchable SHG response of 1.1 × KH2PO4 at 1064 nm, and its birefringence (0.09@1064 nm) is sufficient for phase-matchable behavior, which manifests its comprehensive capacity as a promising NLO candidate. Theoretical calculations about electronic structure and optical properties are also carried out, revealing that the Te4+ lone-pair cation makes the predominant contribution to the SHG effect and synergizes with the [HgO2]2- groups.
