Abstract
Molecular chains of two-coordinate carbon atoms (cumulenes) have long been targeted, due to interest in the electronic structure and applications of extended π-systems, and their relationship to the carbon allotrope, carbyne. While formal (isoelectronic) B═N for C═C substitution has been employed in two-dimensional (2-D) materials, unsaturated one-dimensional all-inorganic "molecular wires" are unknown. Here, we report high-yielding synthetic approaches to heterocumulenes containing a five-atom BNBNB chain, the geometric structure of which can be modified by choice of end group. The diamido-capped system is bent at the 2-/4-positions, and natural resonance theory calculations reveal significant contributions from B═N(:)-B≡N-B resonance forms featuring a lone pair at N (consistent with observed N-centered nucleophilicity). Molecular modification to generate a linear system best described by a B═N═B═N═B resonance structure involves chemical transformation of the capping groups (using B(C5F5)3) to enhance their π-acidity and conjugate the N-lone pairs.

Abstract
Sr4Ba3(BO3)3.83H2.5, as the second compound to combine borate and hydride ions, has been synthesized by a mechanochemical synthesis route. The structure has been elucidated by synchrotron X-ray and neutron diffraction and determined to crystallize in the non-centrosymmetric space group P63mc (186) with the cell parameters a=10.87762(15) Å and c=6.98061(11) Å. A detailed investigation of the compound by vibrational spectroscopy in combination with Density Functional Theory calculations reveals the disordered nature of the structure and proves the presence of both borate and hydride ions. Electronic band structure calculations predict a large band gap of 7.1 eV. Hydride states are predicted at the topmost valence band, which agrees well with earlier reported heteroanionic hydrides. We hereby were able to successfully apply previously synthetic and analytical schemes to introduce another member of the rare compounds that contain complex oxoanions simultaneously with hydride ions.

Abstract
Skutterudites are of high interest in current research due to their diversity of structures comprising empty, partially filled and filled variants, mostly based on metallic compounds. We herein present Ba12 [BN2 ]6.67 H4 , forming a non-metallic filled anti-skutterudite. It is accessed in a solid-state ampoule reaction from barium subnitride, boron nitride and barium hydride at 750 °C. Single-crystal X-ray and neutron powder diffraction data allowed to elucidate the structure in the cubic space group Im3 ‾ ${\bar{3}}$ (no. 204). The barium and hydride atoms form a three-dimensional network consisting of corner-sharing HBa6 octahedra and Ba12 icosahedra. Slightly bent [BN2 ]3- units are located in the icosahedra and the voids in-between. 1 H and 11 B magic angle spinning (MAS) NMR experiments and vibrational spectroscopy further support the structure model. Quantum chemical calculations coincide well with experimental results and provide information about the electronic structure of Ba12 [BN2 ]6.67 H4 .

Abstract
Multianionic metal hydrides, which exhibit a wide variety of physical properties and complex structures, have recently attracted growing interest. Here we present Sr6 N[BN2 ]2 H3 , prepared in a solid-state ampoule reaction at 800 °C, as the first combination of nitridoborate, nitride and hydride anions within a single compound. The crystal structure was solved from single-crystal X-ray and neutron powder diffraction data in space group P21 /c (no. 14), revealing a three-dimensional network of undulated layers of nitridoborate units, strontium atoms and hydride together with nitride anions. Magic angle spinning (MAS) NMR and vibrational spectroscopy in combination with quantum chemical calculations further confirm the structure model. Electrochemical measurements suggest the existence of hydride ion conductivity, allowing the hydrides to migrate along the layers.
