Abstract
A new molecular donor-acceptor-donor (D-A-D) triad, comprised of an electron deficient 1,4,5,8-naphthalene tetracarboxylic diimide (NDI) unit covalently connected to two flanking photosensitizers, i.e., a bis-heteroleptic Ru(II) complex of 1,10-phenanthroline and pyridine triazole hybrid ligand, is described. The single crystal X-ray structure of the perchlorate salt of the triad demonstrates that the electron deficient NDI unit can act as a host for anions via anion-π interaction. Detailed solution-state studies indicate that fluoride selectively interacts with the D-A-D triad to form a dianionic NDI, NDI2-, via a radical anion, NDI•-. On the contrary, cyanide reduces the NDI moiety to NDI•-, as confirmed by UV-vis, NMR, and EPR spectroscopy. Further, femtosecond transient absorption spectroscopic studies reveal a low luminescence quantum yield of the D-A-D triad attributable to the photoinduced electron transfer (PET) process from the photoactive Ru(II) center to the NDI unit. Interestingly, the triad displays "OFF-ON" luminescence behavior in the presence of fluoride by restoring the Ru(II) to phenanthroline/pyridine-triazole-based MLCT emission, whereas cyanide fails to show a similar property due to a different redox process operational in the latter. The reduction of NDI in the presence of fluoride and cyanide in different polar solvents indicates that involvement of such deprotonated solvents in the electron transfer mechanism may not be operative in our present system. Low-temperature kinetic studies support the formation of a charge transfer associative transient species, which likely allows overcoming the thermodynamically uphill barrier for the direct electron transfer mechanism.

Abstract
The reactions of labile [Re(diimine)(CO)3(H2O)]+ precursors (diimine = 2,2'-bipyridine, bpy; 1,10-phenanthroline, phen) with dicyanoargentate anion produce the dirhenium cyanide-bridged compounds [{Re(diimine)(CO)3}2CN)]+ (1 and 2). Substitution of the axial carbonyl ligands in 2 for triphenylphosphine gives the derivative [{Re(phen)(CO)2(PPh3)}2CN]+ (3), while the employment of a neutral metalloligand [Au(PPh3)(CN)] affords heterobimetallic complex [{Re(phen)(CO)3}NCAu(PPh3)]+ (4). Furthermore, the utilization of [Au(CN)2]-, [Pt(CN)4]2-, and [Fe(CN)6]4-/3- cyanometallates leads to the higher nuclearity aggregates [{Re(diimine)(CO)3NC} xM] m+ (M = Au, x = 2, 5 and 6; Pt, x = 4, 7 and 8; Fe, x = 6, 9 and 10). All novel compounds were characterized crystallographically. Assemblies 1-8 are phosphorescent both in solution and in the solid state; according to the DFT analysis, the optical properties are mainly associated with charge transfer from Re tricarbonyl motif to the diimine fragment. The energy of this process can be substantially modified by the properties of the ancillary ligands that allows to attain near-IR emission for 3 (λem = 737 nm in CH2Cl2). The Re-FeII/III complexes 9 and 10 are not luminescent but exhibit low energy absorptions, reaching 846 nm (10) due to ReI → FeIII transition.

Abstract
The picosecond excited state dynamics of [Ru(tpm)(bpy)(NCS)]+ (RubNCS+ ) and [Ru(tpm)(bpy)(CN)]+ (RubCN+ ) (tpm = tris(1-pyrazolyl)methane, bpy = 2,2'-bipyridine) have been analyzed by means of transient absorption measurements and spectroelectrochemistry. Emissive 3MLCTs with (GS)HOMO(h+)-(GS)LUMO(e-) configurations are the lowest triplet excited states regardless of whether 387 or 505 nm photoexcitation is used. 387 nm photoexcitation yields, after a few picoseconds, the emissive 3MLCTs. In contrast, 505 nm photoexcitation populates an intermediate excited state that we assign as a 3MLCT state, in which the hole sits in a metal-centered orbital of different symmetry, prior to its conversion to the emissive 3MLCTs. The disparities in terms of electronic configuration between the intermediate and the emissive 3MLCTs have two important consequences. On one hand, both states feature very different fingerprint absorptions in transient absorption measurements. On the other hand, the reconfiguration is impeded by a kinetic barrier. As such, the conversion is followed spectroscopically and kinetically on the 300 ps timescale.

Abstract
Multi-metallic complexes based on {Ru-Cr}, {Ru-Ru} and {Ru-Ru-Cr} fragments are investigated for their light-harvesting and long-range energy transfer properties. We report the synthesis and characterization of [Ru(tpy)(bpy)(μ-CN)Ru(py)4Cl]2+ and [Ru(tpy)(bpy)(μ-CN)Ru(py)4(μ-NC)Cr(CN)5]. The intercalation of {RuII(py)4} linked by cyanide bridges between {Ru(tpy)(bpy)} and {Cr(CN)5} results in efficient, distant energy transfer followed by emission from the Cr moiety. Characterization of the energy transfer process based on photophysical and ultrafast time-resolved absorption suggests the delocalization of holes in the excited state, providing a pathway for energy transfer between the end moieties. The proposed mechanism opens the door to utilize this family of complexes as an appealing platform for the design of antenna compounds as the properties of the fragments could be tuned independently.
