Abstract
We report the synthesis and characterization of seven new tetranuclear 3d-4f complexes derived from the 3:3:1 reaction of 1,4-diformylnaphthalene-2,3-diol (H2 L) with copper(II) nitrate and a lanthanide salt, Ln = Tb [L 3Cu3TbCl2(NO3)2(H2O)2] (C1), Ho [L 3Cu3HoCl3(H2O)3(MeOH)](H2O) (C2), Er [L 3Cu3ErCl3(H2O)3.5(MeOH)0.5](H2O) (C3), Gd [L 3Cu3Gd(NO3)2(H2O)2(MeOH)](NO3) (C4), Dy [L 3Cu3Dy(NO3)2(H2O)2(MeOH)](NO3) (C5), Yb [L 3Cu3Yb(NO3)2(H2O)2(MeOH)](NO3) (C6), and La [L 3Cu3La(NO3)2(H2O)2(MeOH)](NO3) (C7). Structural elucidation showed that the self-assembly using the acyclic ligand system was successful for all seven complexes, which exhibit the same near-planar Cu3LnO12 core. Five complexes (C1, C2, and C4-C6) were magnetically characterized at 300 K and 1.8 K. Complexes C1, C4, and C5 were observed to have ferromagnetic ground states and showed appreciable frequency dependence in their AC magnetic measurements, which yielded effective barriers between 7.82(4) and 13.2(3) K, confirming the presence of single-molecule magnet properties.

Abstract
A chiral trianionic ligand possessing one amide, one imine, two phenol functions and one asymmetric carbon atom into its diamino chain reacts with CuII ions to yield anionic [LCu]- units that crystallize in a non-centrosymmetric space group as infinite 1D zig-zag chains in which a transmission of chirality to the CuII ion is effective. The distorted square planar environment of the CuII ion is large enough to induce the presence of a stereogenic CuII centre. Further reaction with LnIII ions in presence of ancillary ligands does not preserve such an arrangement but yields a tetranuclear complex made of two [LCu-Ln] units in a head-to-tail position. The tetranuclear [LCu-Ln]2 complexes made with the racemic and chiral LCu units crystallize in different space groups, so that racemization does not occur. The structural determinations confirm that a symmetry centre is present in the two structures, except for the methyl groups linked to the chiral carbon atoms, which appear as disordered in the (S-S) tetranuclear entity. Such an arrangement implies a conformation change of the diamino chain linked to the CuII ion in one [LCu-Ln] unit of the (S-S) entity, and cancels any chirality contribution of the CuII ions, as in the meso compound. Ferromagnetic Cu-Ln interactions, resulting from an alternate distribution of the CuII and LnIII ions, are the only ones to be active. Eventually the micro-Squid studies confirm that the hysteresis loops of the corresponding racemate and chiral tetranuclear [LCu-Dy]2 entities are slightly different.

Abstract
The reaction in basic media of manganese chloride with Schiff bases derived from the condensation of o-vanillin with different chiral/racemic aminoalcohols yielded in a family of complexes in which the nuclearity, symmetry and magnetic behavior is controlled by changing the position of the chiral carbon. Chiral and racemic clusters with [MnIII 6 MnII NaI ], [MnIII 6 MnII 2 NaI 2 ] and [MnIII 3 MnII NaI ] metallic core have been structurally and magnetically characterized. The racemic clusters with an odd number of chiral ligands exhibit the anomalous mixing of ligands with different conformation. Related racemic compounds have been reviewed.

Abstract
Two new homo chiral Cu–Ln (Ln = Gd and Ho) compounds bearing a chiral Schiff base ligand (1R,3S)-N′,N′′-bis[3-methoxysalicylidene]-1,3-diamino-1,2,2-trimethylcyclopentane (H2L) have been synthesized and characterized by elemental analysis, IR spectroscopic and single-crystal X-ray diffraction techniques. The compounds were found to exhibit 1D zig-zag skeletons with double μ-1,5 bridging dicyanamide anions. Circular dichroism (CD) spectra have been used to verify their chiroptical activities. Magnetic studies suggest that 1 and 2 hold the same magnetic behavior with the dinuclear compounds presenting ferromagnetic interaction. Furthermore, both compounds show ferroelectricity with the remnant polarization (Pr) value of 0.23 and 0.18 μC cm−2 at room temperature, respectively. Two homochiral 1D heterometallic chains are potential multifunctional molecules coexisting optical activity, ferromagnetic and ferroelectric properties.![]()

Abstract
Among four isostructural heterometallic CuII–LnIII complexes (Ln = Tb, Dy, Ho or Er) of an N2O3 donor asymmetric ligand, only the CuII–TbIII complex shows SMM behavior at zero bias field but at applied bias field both the CuII–TbIII and CuII–DyIII complexes show SMM behavior.
