Abstract
In this paper, we have successfully synthesized a structurally novel heteropolytungstate via coordination of four {Ru(C6H6)} and trivacant {TeW9O33} clusters, formulated as Cs4Na2H2[Te2W20O72(H2O){(C6H6)Ru}4]·12H2O (1). Compound 1 inherited the strong absorption of [Ru(C6H6)Cl2]2 in the visible region and {TeW9O33} in the UV region, providing a good basis for photocatalysis. As expected, compound 1 showed good photocatalytic activity in the visible-light-driven reduction of nitrobenzene using N2H4·H2O as a reductant with a yield of 99.8%, a high turnover number (TON = 330), and a high turnover frequency (TOF = 24 h-1). The cyclic experiment of nitrobenzene reduction indicated that compound 1 was an effective and stable heterogeneous catalyst. Finally, the nitrobenzene reduction pathway was affirmed using condensation with azobenzene as a reaction intermediate based on control experiments.

Abstract
Polyoxometalates (POM), as inorganic polydentate oxygen donors, provide binding opportunities for oxophilic lanthanide metal centers to construct novel Ln-substituted POM materials with exciting structures and attractive properties. Herein, we have reported four arsenotungstate [α-AsW9O33]9- based lanthanide-containing polyoxometalates [CsxK36-x{Ln6(H2O)12(α-AsW9O33)6}]·yH2O (Ln = Er (1), Gd (2), Ho (3), and Tb (4)), which are synthesized in an alkaline medium. Complexes 1-3 are the dimeric structures of [Ln3(H2O)6(α-AsW9O33)3]18- polyanions, whereas complex 4 is a hexamer of the polyanion [Tb (H2O)2(α-AsW9O33)]6- as a building unit. In all the complexes, [α-AsW9O33]9- units are staggered up and down and give rise to the chair conformation, where one [α-AsW9O33]9- unit bridges two Ln(III) centers through four μ2-oxygen and two terminal oxygen atoms, resulting in the hexagonal arrangement of lanthanides. The dynamic magnetic measurement indicates that only complex 1 exhibits slow relaxation of magnetization with an applied dc field (1500 Oe). To gain insight into the slow relaxation of magnetization in complex 1, the ligand-field parameters and the splitting of the ground-state multiplet of the Er(III) ions have been estimated. The ab initio calculation results confirm that the ground state wave function of these molecules (1, 3, and 4) is mainly composed of a mixture of mJ states, and the non-axial crystal field (CF) terms are more predominant than the axial CF term. The solid-state fluorescence spectra of 1-4 reveal that the photoexcitation O → M ligand-to-metal charge-transfer (LMCT) of arsenotungstate fragments is effectively quenched due to the spatial coordination environment around the Ln(III) ion.

Abstract
A stable 3d-4f heterometallic cluster, namely, {Dy4Ni5L10(NO3)4(CO3)4(CH3OH)2}·CH3CN (Dy4Ni5, HL = 8-hydroxyquinoline), has been solvothermally synthesized and structurally characterized. The compound exhibits an interesting structure in which a tetrahedron based on 4f ions interpenetrates with a square pyramid based on 3d ions. Besides, a unique intermolecular interaction was found in Dy4Ni5, giving rise to its high stability not only when it is in the solid state but also when it dissolves in organic solvents. In addition, the magnetic behavior of solid Dy4Ni5 and the magneto-optical activity of the Dy4Ni5 solution were also studied.

Abstract
A novel binuclear ruthenium-based polyoxometalate, K6H[{Ru2Cl(H2O)(CH3COO)2}{WO(H2O)}2(PW9O34)2]·14H2O (1), was successfully synthesized by the conventional hydrothermal method. Compound 1 was well-characterized by single-crystal X-ray diffraction, X-ray powder diffraction (PXRD), infrared (IR) spectroscopy, X-ray photoelectron spectroscopy (XPS), electrospray ionization-mass spectrometry (ESI-MS), thermogravimetric analyses (TGA), and elemental analysis. The structural unit of compound 1 contains two [A-α-PW9O34]9- building blocks at the upper and lower positions connected by two W atoms and two Ru atoms, where the W atoms and Ru atoms are arranged in a trapezoidal arrangement and the Ru atoms are bridged by acetic acid. Furthermore, compound 1 features characteristic absorption bands in the visible region, which allows the investigation of its photocatalytic properties in visible light. Under simulated sunlight radiation (λ > 400 nm), compound 1 exhibits high photocatalytic activity and good circularity toward the oxidative coupling of amines to imines at room temperature with O2 as the sole oxidant.

Abstract
To advance the structural development and fully explore the application potential, it is highly desirable but challenging to elucidate the relationship between the structures and properties of ZnII-LnIII heterometallic species. Herein, three types of ZnII-LnIII heterometallic compounds (LnIII = GdIII, TbIII) formulated as [Zn16Ln4L12(μ3-O)4(NO3)12]·8CH3CN (ZnLn-1), [Zn2Ln2L2(NO3)6(H2O)2]·3CH3CN (ZnLn-2), and [Zn4Ln2L8(OAc)12]·xCH3CN (ZnLn-3: for Ln = Gd, x = 5; for Ln = Tb, x = 4) were dictated by common inorganic anions, NO3- and OAc-, with the aid of the multidentate ligand H2L with propane as the central skeleton and 3-methoxysalicylamide and 3-methoxysalicylaldimine as terminal groups. ZnLn-1 features cubic cages with four {Zn4L3} tetrahedral subunits and four Ln3+ centers positioned at the eight vertices alternately when NO3- was introduced into the reaction system exclusively. An attempt to replace NO3- in ZnLn-1 with OAc- partially led to the formation of {Zn2Ln2L2} heterometallic wheels. Meanwhile, ZnLn-3 featuring double-hairpin-like {Zn4Ln2L4} hemicycles that are orthogonal to each other assisted by intermolecular hydrogen bonds was constructed when NO3- in ZnLn-1 was completely replaced by OAc-. Their structural integrity in solution were ascertained by both emission and 1H NMR spectroscopy. Ascribed to the different Zn2+-containing antenna, ZnTb-2 possesses a relatively strong emission characteristic of Tb3+; ZnTb-1 has moderate Tb3+ luminescence, yet an absence of Tb3+ emission is found in ZnTb-3. Such an emission difference could be mainly attributed to the antenna effect directed by distinct structural characteristics induced by anions. The anion-dictated self-assembly strategy presented herein not only offers a facile approach to regulate the coordination mode of H2L to such an extent to obtain diverse structures of ZnII-LnIII heterometallic species but also provides an understanding of how common inorganic anions tune coordination-driven self-assemblies as well as the subsequent luminescence properties.

Abstract
Vibrations play a prominent role in magnetic relaxation processes of molecular spin qubits as they couple to spin states, leading to the loss of quantum information. Direct experimental determination of vibronic coupling is crucial to understand and control the spin dynamics of these nano-objects, which represent the limit of miniaturization for quantum devices. Herein, we measure the magneto-infrared properties of the molecular spin qubit system Na9[Ho(W5O18)2]·35H2O. Our results place significant constraints on the pattern of crystal field levels and the vibrational excitations allowing us to unravel vibronic decoherence pathways in this system. We observe field-induced spectral changes near 63 and 370 cm-1 that are modeled in terms of odd-symmetry vibrations mixed with f-manifold crystal field excitations. The overall extent of vibronic coupling in Na9[Ho(W5O18)2]·35H2O is limited by a modest coupling constant (on the order of 0.25) and a transparency window in the phonon density of states that acts to keep the intramolecular vibrations and MJ levels apart. These findings advance the understanding of vibronic coupling in a molecular magnet with atomic clock transitions and suggest strategies for designing molecular spin qubits with improved coherence lifetimes.

Abstract
Two Ni-substituted polyoxometalates (NiSPs), [Ni6(Py)6(H2O)5(μ3-OH)3(PW9O34)]2·10H2O (1), [Ni7(Py)6(Im)(H2O)5O(WO4)(μ3-OH)3(H2PW9O34)]·3H2O (2) (Py = pyridine, Im = imidazole), were successfully hydrothermally synthesized. Compounds 1 and 2 have significantly different configurations by introducing different amounts of imidazole ligands. For compound 1, two malposed {Ni6(Py)6PW9} units that are face to face are bridged by two Ni-O-W bonds to constitute an isolated dimeric structure. Differently, the {Ni7(Py)6(Im)PW9}2 dimer in compound 2 connects with four adjacent dimers by four {WO4} groups in an interesting two-dimensional (2-D) arrangement. The magnetism of compounds 1 and 2 was studied, and magnetic test results demonstrated that both compounds have ferromagnetic interactions between the nickel centers. Meanwhile, the third-order nonlinear optical (NLO) measurements indicated that compound 1 can serve as potential nonlinear optical materials.

Abstract
The assembly of heterometallic cluster substituted polyoxometalates (POMs) remains a great challenge for inorganic synthetic chemistry up to now. Herein, a series of 5p-4f heterometallic cluster substituted POMs were successfully isolated by a facile one-step hydrothermal reaction method, namely H17(H2en)3[SbIII9SbVLn3O14(H2O)3][(SbW9O33)3(PW9O34)]·28H2O(1-Ln, Ln = Ce, Sm, Eu, Gd, Tb, Dy) (en = ethylenediamine). Interestingly, by replacing en with imidazole, another series of 5p-4f heterometallic cluster substituted POMs H13(HIm)4K2Na4(H2O)9[SbIII9SbVLn3O14(H2O)3][(SbW9O33)3(PW9O34)]·26H2O (2-Ln, Ln = Sm, Eu, Gd, Tb, Dy, Im = imidazole) were obtained. Structural analyses indicate that both 1-Ln and 2-Ln are made up of an unprecedented 5p-4f heterometallic {Sb10Ln3O14(H2O)3} cluster stabilized simultaneously by mixed trilacunary heteropolyanions including {A-α-PW9O34} and {B-α-SbW9O33}. Impedance measurements indicate that both compounds exhibit different proton conduction properties, and the conductivity of 2 can reach up to 1.64 × 10-2 S cm-1 at 85 °C under 98% relative humidity. Moreover, the fluorescence emission behaviors of both compounds have been studied.

Abstract
It is challenging to explore and prepare polyoxometalates-based nanomaterials (PNMs) with controllable morphologies and diversiform components. Herein, 3d-4f metals are introduced into isopolyoxometalates and Anderson-type polyoxometalates, CeCdW12 nanoflower and EuCrMo6 microflaky have been fabricated respectively. A series of control experiments are carried out to identify the impact factors on the rare morphologies in PNMs. Furthermore, upon excitation at 396 nm, the emission spectrum of EuCrMo6 displays five prominent f - f emitting peaks at 674, 685, 690, 707, and 734 nm that are assigned to Eu3+ 5D0 → 7FJ (J = 0, 1, 2, 3, 4) transitions. Meanwhile, the VSM results show that the Cr+3 ions in EuCrMo6 display anti-ferromagnetic interactions when the temperature is lower than - 17.54 K. After rising temperature, this material exhibits paramagnetic property. This work opens up strategies toward the brand new morphologies and components of PNMs, endowing this kind of material with new functions.

Abstract

The first synthetic
pathway using a series of four nonlacunary
4f-heterometal-substituted polyoxotungstate clusters Na21[(Ln(H2O)(OH)2(CH3COO))3(WO4)(SbW9O33)3]·nH2O (NaLnSbW9; Ln = TbIII, DyIII, HoIII, ErIII, YIII) as precursors for the directed
preparation of nine new 3d–4f heterometallic tungstoantimonates
K5Na12H3[TM(H2O)Ln3(H2O)5(W3O11)(SbW9O33)3]·nH2O (KTMLnSbW9; TM = CoII, NiII; Ln = TbIII, DyIII, HoIII, ErIII, YIII) has been developed.
Systematic studies revealed an increased K content in the aqueous
acidic reaction mixture to be the key step in the cation-directed
preparation of 3d–4f compounds; among those, the Co-containing
members represent the first examples of KCoLnSbW9 (Ln = TbIII, DyIII, HoIII, ErIII, YIII) heterometallic tungstoantimonates
exhibiting the SbW9 building
block. All 13 compounds have been characterized thoroughly in the
solid state by powder and single-crystal X-ray diffraction (XRD),
revealing a cyclic trimeric polyoxometalate architecture with three SbW9 units encapsulating a planar
triangle of LnIII ions in the case of NaLnSbW9 and a heterometallic core of one TMII and three LnIII for KTMLnSbW9 (TM = CoII, NiII; Ln =
TbIII, DyIII, HoIII, ErIII, YIII). The results obtained by XRD are supplemented
by complementary characterization methods in the solid state such
as IR spectroscopy, thermogravimetric analysis, and elemental analysis
as well as in solution by UV–vis spectroscopy. Detailed magnetic
studies on the representative compounds KTMDySbW9 (TM = CoII, NiII) and KCoYSbW9 of the series revealed field-induced
slow magnetic relaxation. The first step-by-step
synthetic protocol using preformed
4f tungstoantimonate clusters as nonlacunary precursors for the controlled
preparation and thorough characterization of a family of nine new
3d−4f heterometallic polyoxometalates [TM(H2O)Ln3(H2O)5(W3O11)(SbW9O33)3]20- (KTMLnSbW9) (TM = CoII, NiII; Ln = TbIII, DyIII, HoIII, ErIII, YIII) is reported. Magnetic studies on the
DyIII-containing representatives [TM(H2O)Dy3(H2O)5(W3O11)(SbW9O33)3]20− (TM = CoII, NiII) show single-molecule-magnet behavior.

Abstract
Two Ni/Co-substituted sandwich-type germanomolybdates, {[M3(NH2-trz)6(H2O)6][M4(H2O)2(HGeMo10O36)2]}·nH2O (M = Ni2+ (1) and Co2+ (2), n = 10 (1) or 11 (2), NH2-trz = 4-amino-1,2,4-triazole), have been obtained under hydrothermal conditions. 1 and 2 represent the first trivacant Keggin germanomolybdates involving unprecedented [α-GeMo10O36]8- fragments and {M3O4} quasi-cubane building units. Both of them exhibit electrocatalytic behaviours for H2O2 reduction and photocatalytic properties for CO2 conversion.

Abstract
Three novel polyoxometalate (POM) clusters of K10Na10[Dy3(H2O)6Ni(H2O)(W3O11)(B-α-SbW9O33)3]·(H2O)45 (1), (NH4)5K4Na8[Dy3(H2O)6SbV(H2O)(W3O11)(B-α-SbW9O33)3]·(H2O)50 (2), and (NH4)9Na[Ni2(H2O)6(WO2)2(B-β-SbW9O33)2]·(H2O)24 (3) were successfully obtained using the same precursor under different ionic strength conditions. Structural analysis showed that compounds 1-3 possess discrepant structural characteristics in 1 M KCl, 1 M NH4Cl, and saturated NH4Cl, respectively. Among them, 2 is the first reported lanthanide cluster including both Sb3+ and Sb5+ in POM derivatives. Furthermore, the analysis of ac magnetic data proved that 1 and 2 embodied dramatic field-induced slow magnetic relaxation, and the effective barrier of 2 was estimated as Ueff/KB = 21.10 K based on the Orbach process. It was found that the structure and magnetic properties of POM materials can be regulated using an effective and satisfactory ionic strength-controlled strategy.

Abstract
Under hydrothermal conditions, three new acetate-functionalized zirconium-substituted polyoxometalates, H4Na2[Na6(H2O)22][Zr4(μ3-O)2(OH)2(OAc)2(α-GeW10O37)2]·32H2O (1), H8K3Na5[Zr6(μ3-O)3(OH)3(OAc)(H2O)(β-GeW10O37)3]·20H2O (2), H6K4Na12[{Zr5(μ3-OH)4(OH)2}@{Zr2(OAc)2(α-GeW10O38)2}2]·22H2O (3), were synthesized and characterized. In 1, the sandwiched dimer [Zr4(μ3-O)2(OH)2(OAc)2(α-GeW10O37)2]12- was linked to a hexameric [Na6(H2O)22]6+ cluster to form a 1D chain. In 2, the trimer was constructed from three [β2-GeW10O37]10- units and a new [Zr6O3(OH)3(OAc)(H2O)]14+ cluster. In 3, the tetramer was built by two novel sandwich-type dimers [Zr2(OAc)2(α2-GeW10O38)2]18- and one unique [Zr5(μ3-OH)4(OH)2]14+ core in an approximately orthogonal fashion, showing a staggered tetrahedral polyanion. Also, the electrochemistry and electrocatalytic properties of 3 were studied, exhibiting good catalytic activities toward the reduction of H2O2, BrO3-, and NO2-.

Abstract
By introduction of trilacunary Keggin-type polyoxometalate to the hydrothermal reaction system of Cr3+, Ln3+ and phthalic acid, a series of novel {Cr4Ln4} heterometallic clusters with the formula Cs2[Cr4Ln4(μ4-O)4(μ3-O)4(C8H4O4)4(H2O)12](H3SiW12O40)Cl·23H2O (1-Ln, Ln = Ce, Pr, Nd) and [Cr4Ln4(μ4-O)4(μ3-O)4(C8H4O4)4(H2O)10](H6SiW12O40)Cl2·18H2O (2-Ln, Ln = Sm, Eu, Gd, Tb, Dy, Ho, Er) have been obtained. Single-crystal structural analyses show that 1-Ln and 2-Ln constitute the first cases of Cr–Ln heterometallic clusters stabilized by inorganic polyoxometalate anions and organic ligands. Optical spectra studies demonstrate that 1-Ln and 2-Ln are narrow-gap semiconductors with band gaps of about 1.5 eV. Magnetic investigation shows that compound 2-Dy is a potential single molecule magnet. By introduction of trilacunary Keggin-type polyoxometalate to the hydrothermal reaction system of Cr3+, Ln3+ and phthalic acid, a series of novel {Cr4Ln4} heterometallic clusters have been obtained.![]()
