Abstract
Octahedral coordination cages of the general formula [Pd6L12](BF4)12 were obtained by combining [Pd(CH3CN)4](BF4)2 with heteroditopic N-donor ligands. Four different ligands were employed. These ligands have 3-pyridyl donor groups at one end and 4-pyridyl, imidazolyl, or triazolyl donor groups at the other end. According to a geometric analysis, cages with a cis configuration at the six metal centers should be preferred ("cis rule"). This prediction was corroborated by spectroscopic data and crystallographic analyses. Limitations of the "cis rule" were also encountered, and possible explanations are discussed.

Abstract
This work introduces the use of 8-aminoquinoline subcomponents to generate complex three-dimensional structures. Together with a tris(formylpyridine), 8-aminoquinoline condensed around ZnII templates to produce a tris(tridentate) ligand. This ligand is incorporated into either a tricapped trigonal prismatic ZnII9L6 structure or a pair of pseudo-octahedral ZnII6L4 diastereomers, with S4 and D2 symmetries. Introduction of a methyl group onto the aminoquinoline modulated the coordination sphere of ZnII, which favored the ZnII9L6 structure and disfavored the ZnII6L4 assembly. The tricapped trigonal prismatic ZnII9L6 architecture converted into a single ZnII6L4 cage diastereomer following the addition of a dianionic 4,4'-dinitrostilbene-2,2'-disulfonate guest. Four of these guests clustered tightly at the four windows of the ZnII6L4 cage, held in place through electrostatic interactions and hydrogen bonding, stabilize a single diastereomeric configuration with S4 symmetry.

Abstract
Tetra- and hexanuclear coordination cages were obtained in reactions of [Pd(CH3CN)4](BF4)2 with low-symmetry dipyridyl ligands. In both cases, only one structurally defined complex was formed out of a vast pool of potential isomers.

Abstract
In terms of documented references, multifunctional MOFs with high catalytic performance could be constructed from the combination of metal cations and polycarboxyl-pyridine ligands, which could efficiently endow crystallized porous frameworks with the coexisting Lewis acid-base properties. Thus, by employing a ligand-directed synthetic strategy, the exquisite combination of wave-like inorganic chains of [Tm(CO2)3(OH2)]n and mononuclear units of [Tm(CO2)4(OH2)2] with the aid of the specially designed ligand of 2,6-bis(2,4-dicarboxylphenyl)-4-(4-carboxylphenyl)pyridine (H5BDCP) generates one highly robust microporous framework of {(Me2NH2)[Tm3(BDCP)2)(H2O)3]·4DMF·H2O}n (simplified as NUC-25), which contains near-rectangular nanochannels and large solvent-residing voids. Furthermore, the activated state of NUC-25 with the removal of associated water molecules is a rarely reported bifunctional heterogeneous catalyst due to the coexistence of Lewis acid-base sites including 6-coordinated Tm3+ ions, uncoordinated carboxyl oxygen atoms, and Npyridine atoms. Just as expected, NUC-25 exhibits greatly high catalytic activity for the cycloaddition reaction of epoxides with CO2 into alkyl cyclic carbonates under bland solvent-free conditions, which should be ascribed to the polarity of nitrogen-containing pyridine heterocycles as Lewis base sites on the inner surface of nano-caged voids except for recognized Lewis acid sites of rare earth cations. Moreover, the excellent pore-size-dependent catalytic property for Knoevenagel condensation reactions confirms that NUC-25 can be viewed as a recyclable bifunctional heterogeneous catalyst. Therefore, these results strongly demonstrate that microporous MOFs assembled from pre-designed polycarboxyl-heterocyclic ligands display better catalytic performance not only for chemical CO2 fixation but also for Knoevenagel condensation reactions.

Abstract
Coordination-driven self-assembly of discrete molecular architectures of diverse shapes and sizes has been well studied in the last three decades. Use of dynamic imine bonds for designing analogous metal-free architectures has become a growing challenge recently. This article reports an organic molecular barrel (OB4R ) as a potential template for nucleation and stabilization of very tiny (<1.5 nm) Ag nanoparticles (AgNPs). Imine bond condensation of a rigid tetra-aldehyde with a flexible diamine followed by imine-bond reduction yielded the discrete tetragonal organic barrel (OB4R ). The presence of a molecular pocket ornamented with eight diamine moieties gives the potential for encapsulation of silver(I). The organic barrel was finally used as a molecular vessel for the controlled nucleation of silver nanoparticles (AgNPs) with fine size tuning through binding of AgI ions in the confined space of the barrel followed by reduction. Transmission electron microscopy (TEM) analysis of the Ag0 @OB4R composite revealed that the mean particle size is 1.44±0.16 nm. The composite material has approximately 52 wt % silver loading. The barrel-supported ultrafine AgNPs [Ag0 @OB4R ] are found to be an efficient photocatalyst for facile Ullmann-type aryl-amination coupling of haloarenes at ambient temperature without using any additives. The catalyst was stable for several cycles of reuse without any agglomeration. The new composite Ag0 @OB4R represents the first example of discrete organic barrel-supported AgNPs employed as a photocatalyst in Ullmann-type coupling reactions at room temperature.

Abstract
Six tetranuclear rectangular metallacycles were synthesized via the [2+2] coordination-driven self-assembly of imidazole-based ditopic donor 1,4-bis(imidazole-1-yl)benzene and 1,3-bis(imidazol-1-yl)benzene, with dinuclear half-sandwich p-cymene ruthenium(II) acceptors [Ru2(µ-η4-oxalato)(η6-p-cymene)2](SO3CF3)2, [Ru2(µ-η4-2,5-dioxido-1,4-benzoquinonato)(η6-p-cymene)2](SO3CF3)2 and [Ru2(µ-η4-5,8-dioxido-1,4-naphtoquinonato)(η6-p-cymene)2](SO3CF3)2, respectively. Likewise, three hexanuclear trigonal prismatic metallacages were prepared via the [2+3] self-assembly of tritopic donor of 1,3,5-tri(1H-imidazol-1-yl)benzene with these ruthenium(II) acceptors respectively. Self-selection of the single symmetrical and stable metallacycle and cage was observed although there is the possibility of forming different conformational isomeric products due to different binding modes of these imidazole-based donors. The self-assembled macrocycles and cage containing the 5,8-dioxido-1,4-naphtoquinonato (donq) spacer exhibited good anticancer activity on all tested cancer cell lines (HCT-116, MDA-MB-231, MCF-7, HeLa, A549, and HepG-2), and showed decreased cytotoxicities in HBE and THLE-2 normal cells. The effect of Ru and imidazole moiety of these assemblies on the anticancer activity was discussed. The study of binding ability of these donq-based Ru assemblies with ctDNA indicated that the complex 9 with 180° linear 1 ligand has the highest bonding constant K b to ctDNA.
