Abstract
Unmodified hairy basil seed mucilage (Ocimum basilicum L.), with attractive features as structural functionality and adsorption capacity, was employed as a green biosorbent for dispersive solid phase extraction and enrichment of oxytetracycline, tetracycline, and doxycycline before quantitation by HPLC-UV for the first time. Hairy basil crushed seed increased the contacting surface area and was completely dispersed in the sample solution to extract tetracyclines under acidic condition with the assistance of ultrasonic waves. The analytes in the extraction phase were separated on a C18 column under isocratic condition with a mobile phase consisted of acetonitrile and trifluoroacetic acid. Influence of chemical and physical variables on the extraction efficiency of the developed method was investigated and optimized systematically. Under the optimal condition of all experimental parameters, good linear ranges were obtained at 15.0-500 μg L-1 for tetracyclines with determination coefficients more than 0.9994. Limits of detection (LODs) and limits of quantitation (LOQs) ranged 5.0-7.0 and 15.0 μg L-1, respectively. Relative standard deviations (RSDs) of the proposed method at 100 and 300 μg L-1 for TCs were less than 13 % and 10 %, respectively with percentage TC recoveries from spiked standard ranging 83.1-109.9 %. This simple, reliable, cost-effective, and environmentally friendly method was successfully applied for the analysis of tetracycline residues in milk. The greenness of the proposed method was assessed using the Analytical Eco-Scale and AGREE protocol.

Abstract
In the present study, a magnetic nano gel as the sorbent which is the combination of octatonic acid: cumarin as eutectic solvent and Fe3O4@SiO2 was introduced as the sorbent in ultrasound-assisted dispersive µ-solid phase extraction process coupled with high performance liquid chromatography with photo diode array detector for simultaneous separation and determination of tetracyclines residues in food samples. FT-IR, SEM, VSM were used for the characterization of the synthetized magnetic nano gel. Under obtained optimum conditions, the obtained linear ranges were 1.5-500 (µg L-1), 2.5-750 (µg L-1), 2-750 (µg L-1), and 2.5-500 (µg L-1) for tetracycline, oxytetracycline, chlortetracycline, and doxycycline, respectively. Moreover, the below level of quantification (BLQ) (based on S/N = 3) of 0.47 µg L-1, 0.11 µg L-1, 0.85 µg L-1, 0.66 µg L-1, 0.81 µg L-1 and the limit of quantification (based on S/N = 10) of 1.61, 2.74, 2.23 (µg L-1), and 2.66 were achieved for tetracycline, oxytetracycline, chlortetracycline, and doxycycline, respectively. The intra-day and inter-day precision (%) of the procedure were less than 3.2 and 3.8, respectively. The recoveries over 95% confirmed high sufficiency of the proposed method for application in complex matrices such as honey, milk, and egg. Abstract
In this work, a stimuli-responsive SERS biosensor was fabricated for tetracycline (TTC) by "signal-on" strategy using (EDTA)-driven polyethyleneimine grafted calcium carbonate (PEI@CaCO3) microcapsule and chitosan-Fe magnetic microbeads (CS@FeMMs). Initially, aptamer conjugated magnetic-bead CS@FeMMs@Apt with superparamagnetism and excellent biocompatibility was employed as capture probe, which facilitated the rapid and easy magnetic separation. Subsequently, the PEI cross-linked layer and aptamer network layer were constructed onto the outer layer of CaCO3@4-ATP microcapsule to form sensing probes (PEI@CaCO3@4-ATP@Apt) via the layer-by-layer assembly method. In the presence of TTC, a sandwich SERS-assay was exploited by aptamer recognition induced target-bridged strategy. When the solution of EDTA was added, the core layer of CaCO3 would be dissolved quickly, destroying the microcapsule to release 4-ATP. The released 4-ATP could be quantitatively monitored by dripping the supernatant onto the AuNTs@PDMS SERS platform, resulting in a strong Raman "signal-on". Under the optimal conditions, a good linear relationship was established with a correlation coefficient (R2) of 0.9938 and a LOD of 0.03 ng/mL. Additionally, the application capacity of the biosensor to detect TTC was also affirmed in food matrixes, and the results were consistent with the standard ELISA method (P > 0.05). Hence, this SERS biosensor affords extensive application prospects for TTC detection with multiple merits such as high sensitivity, environment friendliness, and high stability.

Abstract
CPAC-SPE-HPLC (coconut powdered activated carbon -SPE- HPLC) has been developed for the determination of antibiotic (ABX), sulfamonomethoxine sodium (SMM), oxytetracycline (OTC), ceftiofur hydrochloride (CEF) and marbofloxacin (MAR), in water and milk. Over 99.0% SMM and OTC were recovered from 20 mL of 0.5 μg/mL ABX solution using 10 mg-CPAC for adsorption and 2 mL of 30% NH4OH/EtOH (1/19 v/v) for elution. Similarly, over 99.0% CEF and MAR were recovered using 15 mg-CPAC and 2 mL of 30% NH4OH/n-PrOH (1/19 v/v). Moreover, the recovery efficiencies of various ABX from 5 to 80 mL of 0.02-2.00 μg/mL medicated milk containing 10 mM EDTA are ordered as follows: OTC (99.3%), SMM (99.1%) > CEF (68.9%) > MAR (61.4%). No interference towards HPLC analysis were observed with elution using 2 mL of 30% NH4OH/EtOH (1/19 v/v). Furthermore, much lower limit of detections (0.02 μg/mL) than the maximum residual limits from European Commission (0.075-0.100 μg/mL) were obtained.

Abstract
With the increasing use of antibiotics worldwide, antibiotic monitoring has become a topic of concern. After metabolizing of antibiotics in animals, the metabolites enter the environment through excreta or ingested by the human body via food chain that may exacerbate the emergence of antibiotic resistance and then threaten human's life. This article summarized several analytical methods used for the determination of antibiotics in recent 10 years. Due to the complex matrices and low concentration level of antibiotics in the food samples, a reliable analysis method is required to maximize the recovery rate. Several techniques like solid phase extraction (SPE), dispersive liquid-liquid microextraction (DLLME) and QuEChERS have been frequently used in the pretreatment process for analytes extraction and concentration. After the pretreatment, ultra-high performance liquid chromatography combined with mass spectrometry has been a reliable method for quantitative analysis and is able to determine multiple antibiotics simultaneously. This review also gives an overview about analytical conditions for antibiotics residues in different food samples and their method validation parameters.

Abstract
BACKGROUND In this study, development and validation of a simple, miniaturized and, environmentally friendly carrier-mediated three-phase hollow-fibre liquid-phase micro-extraction (HFLPME) technique was investigated for the enrichment of tetracycline residues in honey samples. The extracts were analysed using UV-visible spectrophotometry and liquid chromatography-quadrupole time-of-flight mass spectrometry (LC-Q-TOF/MS). Parameters affecting the extraction efficiency of HFLPME such as pH of the donor and acceptor solutions, salt addition, agitation speed and extraction time were optimized. RESULTS The calibration curves showed good linearity, in the range of 1-100 μg kg-1 with correlation coefficients ranging between 0.9943 and 0.9992, under the optimized conditions. Recoveries of blank honey samples at three spiking levels (1, 10 and 20 μg kg-1 ) ranged from 81.2% to 107.5%. Relative standard deviations for the precision of the method were less than 15.0%. Limits of detection and limits of quantification were in the range of 0.0861-0.2628 μg kg-1 and 0.2610-0.7964 μg kg-1 , respectively. Finally, the proposed method was successfully applied in the extraction of five tetracyclines from honey samples. Doxycycline residue detected in one of the commercial honey samples was below the limit of quantification. CONCLUSION Because of the advantages offered by HFLPME, this method can be employed as an alternative to conventional extraction techniques for the clean-up and pre-concentration of antibiotics in complex matrices, including food samples. © 2021 Society of Chemical Industry.

Abstract
The antibiotic tetracycline (Tc) is a major contaminant in food and water, with adverse effects on both ecosystems and human health. The development of novel sensors for tetracycline detection is of great importance. In this work, we develop a novel heteroatom-free conjugated tetraphenylethylene polymer (TPE-CMP) fluorescence sensor for the detection of tetracycline. In the presence of Tc, the emission fluorescence of TPE-CMP was quenched by the photoinduced electron transfer mechanism to achieve high sensitivity. The polymers can detect tetracycline at a concentration of 0-100 μg/mL with a good linear correlation (0.99), and the limit of detection (LOD) is 1.23 μg/mL. Furthermore, TPE-CMP has excellent selectivity in detecting Tc in the presence of various anti-interference analytes, including ions and antibiotics. In addition, the practical feasibilities of TPE-CMP for Tc sensing were further investigated in milk, urine and wastewater samples with satisfactory recoveries (from 94.96% to 112.53% for milk, from 96.41% to 99.31% for urine and from 98.54% to 100.52% for wastewater). We have designed and synthesized TPE-CMP based on heteroatom-free for the specific fluorescence detection of tetracycline, expanding the range of fluorescence detection sensors and offering great promise for practical applications.

Abstract
An ionic liquid-based dispersive liquid-liquid microextraction (IL-DLLME) combined with magnetic solid-phase extraction (MSPE) was developed for extraction of quinolones (quinolones) from honey and milk prior to high-performance liquid chromatography (HPLC) analysis. 1-Butyl-3-methylimidazolium hexafluorophosphate was used as the extraction solvent and an effective adsorbent based on chitosan modified magnetic core-shell functionalized multi-walled carbon nanotube (MWCNTs-Fe3O4@SiO2-CS) nanoparticles was used to assist IL to adsorb quinolone residues in honey and milk samples. Extraction conditions were optimized through one-factor-at-a-time and response surface methodology using a Box-Behnken design. Under optimum conditions satisfactory linearity (R2 > 0.999) and high sensitivity (method limits of quantification were 4-8 μg kg-1 or μg L-1 in honey or milk samples) was achieved. The recoveries of quinolones in honey and milk ranged from 81.2 to 109%. Based on this study, the proposed method was employed for the determination of antibiotic residues in honey and milk samples.

Abstract
A simple microextraction procedure was developed using an electrospun nanostructured membrane to determine acrylamide in pet food samples. Polyvinyl chloride, polyvinyl alcohol, and polyvinyl alcohol/hydroxyethyl cellulose electrospun membranes were prepared and investigated as a sorbent to extract acrylamide. The characterization of the synthesized electrospun membrane was accomplished using field-emission scanning electron microscopy (FESEM). FESEM images showed uniform morphology and beadless nanofibers. Quantification was done by high-performance liquid chromatography with ultraviolet detection. A series of microextraction parameters were optimized before quantitative analysis of dry pet food samples. The calibration curve exhibited good linearity with a correlation coefficient of 0.996 across a 1–100 μg/kg concentration range. The recovery of acrylamide for pet food samples spiked with 5 and 10 μg/kg was in the range of 79.6–113.9 (n = 3). The intraday precision of the method was less than 12% for three replicated real spiked samples at the 5 μg/kg level. The results demonstrated that the electrospun nanostructured membrane has good extraction selectivity and minimal matrix effect with an enrichment factor of 180-fold.

Abstract
Antibiotics, nowadays, are not only used for the treatment of human diseases but also used in animal and poultry farming to increase production. Overuse of antibiotics leads to their circulation in the food chain due to unmanaged discharge. These circulating antibiotics and their residues are a major cause of antimicrobial resistance (AMR), so comprehensive and multifaceted measures aligning with the One Health approach are crucial to curb the emergence and dissemination of antibiotic resistance through the food chain. Different chromatographic techniques and capillary electrophoresis (CE) are being widely used for the separation and detection of antibiotics and their residues from food samples. However, the matrix present in food samples interferes with the proper detection of the antibiotics, which are present in trace concentrations. This review is focused on the scientific literature published in the last decade devoted to the detection of antibiotics in food products. Various extraction methods are employed for the enrichment of antibiotics from a wide variety of food samples; however, solid-phase extraction (SPE) techniques are often used for the extraction of antibiotics from food products and biological samples. In addition, this review has scrutinized how changing instrumental composition, organization, and working parameters in the chromatography and CE can greatly impact the identification and quantification of antibiotic residues. This review also summarized recent advancements in other detection methods such as immunological assays, surface-enhanced Raman spectroscopy (SERS)-based assays, and biosensors which have emerged as rapid, sensitive, and selective tools for accurate detection and quantification of traces of antibiotics.

Abstract
The excessive use of tetracyclines (TCs), a bacteriostaticantibiotic, in food products, has led to the accumulation of TCs residues in the human body, affecting human health seriously. Therefore, the development of a highly sensitive method to detect TCs in food is of utmost importance. This study reports a novel sensing strategy using aptamer-induced fluorescence fluctuation of graphene quantum dots (GQDs) and palladium nanoparticles (Pd NPs) for the rapid and label-free detection of tetracycline with a limit of detection of 45 ng.mL-1. A novel single-step synthesis of positively charged Pd NPs and one-step green synthesis of GQDs directly from graphite has been developed. The proposed strategy provides an efficient way to detect low traces of TCs and a new technique for the development of aptamer-based sensors.

Abstract
An aptamer (Apt) functionalized magnetic material was prepared by covalently link Apt to Fe3 O4 /graphene oxide (Fe3 O4 /GO) composite by 1-ethyl-3-(3-dimethylaminopropyl) carbodiimide hydrochloride and N-hydroxysuccinimide, and then characterized by FTIR spectroscopy, X-ray diffraction, and vibration sample magnetometry. The obtained composite of Fe3 O4 /GO/Apt was employed as magnetic solid-phase extraction adsorbent for the selective preconcentration of sulfadimethoxine prior to analysis by high-performance liquid chromatography. Under the optimal conditions (sample pH of 4.0, sorbent dosage of 20 mg, extraction time of 3 h, and methanol-5% acetic acid solution as eluent), a good linear relationship was obtained between the peak area and concentration of sulfadimethoxine in the range of 5.0 to 1500.0 µg/L with correlation coefficient of 0.9997. The limit of detection (S/N = 3) was 3.3 µg/L. The developed method was successfully applied to the analysis of sulfadimethoxine in milk with recoveries in the range of 75.9-92.3% and relative standard deviations less than 8.1%. The adsorption mechanism of Fe3 O4 /GO/Apt toward sulfadimethoxine was studied through the adsorption kinetics and adsorption isotherms, and the results show that the adsorption process fits well with the pseudo-second-order kinetic model and the adsorbate on Fe3 O4 /GO/Apt is multilayer and heterogeneous.

Abstract
Rapid and accurate detection of antibiotics at trace levels in food represents a great challenge. Tetracycline (TC), as a sort of broad-spectrum antibiotic, has been extensively used in animal infection therapy and animal husbandry as growth promoters. Large amounts of TC residues in animal-derived foods affect food quality and safety, and cause undesirable side effects such as allergic reactions and bacterial antibiotic resistance. Here, a Raman fingerprint strip sensor was reported based on surface-enhanced Raman scattering technology and demonstrated for ultrasensitive detection of TC. In this approach, 4-aminothiophenol (4-ATP) modified gold nanostars (GNSs) were used as a strong Raman reporter, which was coated with anti-TC monoclonal antibody serving as a biorecognition to acquire both visual and Raman signals on the test line. To demonstrate the performance of this strip, TC standard solutions with concentrations ranging from 0.5 to 50 ng/mL was detected, the limit of the detection (LOD) for the Raman signal was 0.04 ng/mL, which was 100 times more sensitive than those of color intensity quantifications. The other analogues, oxytetracycline, and chlortetracycline were detected using this method, making them suitable for the samples with TC analogues screening.

Abstract
In this study, the detection and quantification of multiple classes of antibiotics in water matrices are proposed using a lab-made solid phase microextraction (SPME) fiber coupled with high-performance liquid chromatography-tandem mass spectrometry (LC-MS/MS). The lab-made fiber was prepared using a graphene oxide (G), carbon nanotubes (C), and titanium dioxide (T) composite, namely GCT, with polyacrylonitrile (PAN) as supporting material. The detected antibiotics were enrofloxacin, sulfathiazole, erythromycin, and trimethoprim. The custom-made fiber was found to be superior compared with a commercial C18 fiber. The excellent reproducibility and lower intra-fiber relative standard deviations (RSDs 1.8% to 6.8%) and inter-fiber RSDs (4.5% to 8.8%) made it an ideal candidate for the detection of traces of antibiotics in real environmental samples. The proposed validated method provides a satisfactory limit of detection and good linear ranges with higher (>0.99) coefficient of determination in the aqueous system. Application of the method was made in different real water systems such as river, pond and tap water using the standard spiking method. Excellent sensitivity, reproducibility, lower amount of sample detection and higher recovery was found in a real water sample. Therefore, the extraction method was successfully applied to the detection and quantification of multiple classes of antibiotics in different aqueous systems with satisfactory results.

Abstract
Due to the abuse of antibiotics, antibiotic residues can be detected in both natural environment and various industrial products, posing threat to the environment and human health. Here we describe the design and implementation of an engineered Escherichia coli capable of degrading tetracycline (Tc)-one of the commonly used antibiotics once on humans and now on poultry, cattle and fisheries. A Tc-degrading enzyme, TetX, from the obligate anaerobe Bacteroides fragilis was cloned and recombinantly expressed in E. coli and fully characterized, including its K m and k cat value. We quantitatively evaluated its activity both in vitro and in vivo by UV-Vis spectrometer and LC-MS. Moreover, we used a tetracycline inducible amplification circuit including T7 RNA polymerase and its specific promoter PT7 to enhance the expression level of TetX, and studied the dose-response of TetX under different inducer concentrations. Since the deployment of genetically modified organisms (GMOs) outside laboratory brings about safety concerns, it is necessary to explore the possibility of integrating a kill-switch. Toxin-Antitoxin (TA) systems were used to construct a mutually dependent host-plasmid platform and biocontainment systems in various academic and industrious situations. We selected nine TA systems from various bacteria strains and measured the toxicity of toxins (T) and the detoxifying activity of cognate antitoxins (A) to validate their potential to be used to build a kill-switch. These results prove the possibility of using engineered microorganisms to tackle antibiotic residues in environment efficiently and safely.

Abstract
It is fundamental to develop highly efficient visible light-responsive photoelectrochemical (PEC) performance material for fabricating PEC biosensor. Herein, BiPO4/three-dimensional nitrogen doped graphene hydrogel (3DNGH) nanocomposites were prepared for the first time via a facile one-pot hydrothermal route. In this nanoarchitecture, the BiPO4 nanorods were anchored onto the porous structure of 3DNGH. Compared with pristine BiPO4, the absorption of BiPO4/3DNGH has been extend to visible-light region, and the energy band gap of BiPO4/3DNGH was calculated to be 2.10 eV, which was greatly narrower than that of pristine BiPO4 with a band gap of 3.85 eV. Under visible light irradiation, the photocurrent signal of the as-prepared BiPO4/3DNGH was 847.2-fold, 4.1-fold and 2.3-fold enhanced comparing to pristine BiPO4, BiPO4 functionalized reduced graphene oxide and BiPO4/nitrogen doped graphene. The enhancement of such photocurrent signal was attributed to the introduction of 3DNGH, which was capable to improve the charge transfer rate and also the efficiency of visible-light utilization of BiPO4. Based on the excellent PEC properties of BiPO4/3DNGH, a label-free PEC aptasensor for selectivity and sensitivity detection of tetracycline (Tc) was successfully established by using Tc aptamer as a biorecognition element. Under optimized conditions, the proposed PEC aptasensor exhibited a wide linear in the range from 0.1 nmol L-1 to 1 μmol L-1 as well as a low detection limit of 0.033 nmol L-1 (S/N = 3). The prepared BiPO4/3DNGH nanocomposites would serve as a promising visible light-responsive photoactive material for fabrication of PEC biosensors with high performance.

Abstract
Surface-enhanced Raman scattering (SERS) biosensors have promising potential in the field of antibiotics detection because of their ultrahigh detection sensitivity. This paper reports a rapid and sensitive SERS-based magnetic nanospheres-targeting strategy for sensing tetracycline (TTC) using aptamer-conjugated magnetite colloid nanocrystal clusters (MCNCs)-polymethacrylic acid (PMAA) magnetic nanospheres (MNs) as the recognition and the Au/PATP/SiO2 (APS) as the labels. Initially, MNs were fabricated and conjugated with the aptamers through condensation reaction. MNs possessed high saturation magnetization (Ms) value of 71.5emu/g and excellent biocompatibility, which facilitated the rapid and easy magnetic separation. Then, complementary DNA (cDNA) were loaded on the APS nanocarrier to produce a large amplification factor of Raman signals. The MNs-targeting aptasensor was thus fabricated by immobilizing the APS to the MNs' surfaces via the hybrid reaction between cDNA and aptamers. Sequel, TTC bound successfully to the aptamer upon its addition with the subsequent release of some cDNA-APS into the bulk solution. Under magnet attraction, the nanospheres were deposited together. Consequently, a display of strong SERS signals by supernatants of the resulting mixtures with increasing TTC concentrations was observed. The proposed aptasensor showed excellent performances for TTC detection along with wide linear range of 0.001-100ng/mL, low detection limit 0.001ng/mL, high sensitivity, and good selectivity to the general coexisted interferences.

Abstract
Antibiotics are widely used as growth promoters in animal husbandry; among them, the tetracyclines are a chemical group of relevance, due to their wide use in agriculture, surpassing in quantities applied almost every other antibiotic family. Seeing the considerable amounts of tetracyclines used worldwide, monitoring of these antibiotics is paramount. Advances must be made in the analysis of antibiotics to assess correct usage and dosage of tetracyclines in food and feedstuffs and possible residues in pertinent environmental samples. The tetracyclines are still considered a clinically relevant group of antibiotics, though dissemination of tolerance and resistance determinants have limited their use. This review focuses on four different aspects: (i) tetracyclines, usage, dosages, and regulatory issues that govern their food-related application, with particular attention to the prohibitions and restrictions that several countries have enforced in recent years by agencies from both the United States and the European Union, (ii) analytical methods for tetracyclines, determination, and residues thereof in feedstuffs and related matrices with an emphasis on the most relevant and novel techniques, including both screening and confirmatory methods, (iii) tetracycline resistance and tetracycline-resistant bacteria in feedstuff, and (iv) environmental and health risks accompanying the use of tetracyclines in animal nutrition. In the last two cases, we discuss the more relevant undesirable effects that tetracyclines exert over bacterial communities and nontarget species including unwanted effects in farmers.
