Abstract
While hundreds of literature reports describe the preparation of spirooxindole-based five- and six-membered heterocycles, the construction of seven-membered heterocyclic rings spiro-connected to a 2-oxindole core has so far been less developed. Herein, we disclose a base-mediated (4 + 3) annulation of spiro-epoxyoxindoles and 2-(2-fluoroaryl)-1H-benzoimidazoles or 2-fluoro-N-arylbenzenesulfonamides toward the synthesis of two new classes of spirooxindole-based polycyclic systems. Mechanistically, this conceptually simple and high atom-economical reaction proceeds via an SN2-like intermolecular epoxide ring-opening, accompanied by a concomitant intramolecular SNAr reaction. From a synthetic aspect, the notable features of the process are its full regioselectivity, operational simplicity using readily available substrates under transition-metal-free conditions, high yields, and broad substrate scope.

Abstract
A Pd(II)-catalyzed three-component synthesis of 2,4,6-triarylfuro[2,3-d]pyrimidines from β-ketodinitriles, boronic acids, and aldehydes has been developed. The participation of both nitrile (-CN) groups led to the concurrent construction of furo-pyrimidine via the formation of C-C, C═C, C-O, C-N, and C═N bonds. The compounds show excellent photoluminescence properties with absorption maxima ranging from 348 to 387 nm and emission from 468 to 533 nm. The synthetic utility of the protocol was further demonstrated through a few postsynthetic manipulations.

Abstract
The amine-catalyzed [3 + 3] annulations of β'-acetoxy allenoates with 1C,3N-bisnucleophiles have been established. Under the optimal reaction conditions, this operationally simple synthetic process works well with a wide substrate scope, delivering novel 1,2-fused benzimidazole derivatives in moderate to good yields. In addition, preliminary attempts on the asymmetric version of this reaction have been explored by using cinchona alkaloid-based tertiary amines.

Abstract
The reaction of bromopropargylic alcohols with phenols in the presence of Cs2CO3/DMF affords α-phenoxy-α’-hydroxyketones (1:1 adducts) and α,α-diphenoxyketones (1:2 adducts) in up to 92% and 24% yields, respectively. Both products are formed via ring opening of the same intermediates, 1,3-dioxolan-2-ones, generated in situ from bromopropargylic alcohols and Cs2CO3.

Abstract
A Cu(II)-promoted synthesis of an aza-fused N-heterocycle having a benz-imidazopyridine scaffold is developed via an addition-cyclization reaction followed by an Ullmann-type C-N coupling between o-iodoanilines and γ-ketodinitriles. This protocol features a broad substrate scope, giving products in 32-84% yields. The compounds show excellent photoluminescence properties having two absorption maxima in the region between 270-280 and 338-350 nm and emission maxima in the range of 502-533 nm. The HOMO-LUMO energy gap of 3.49-3.57 eV was determined using Gaussian 09 at the B3LYP/6-31G (d, p) basis set level. We also demonstrated a few postsynthetic modifications.

Abstract
Metal-free catalyzed intermolecular tandem Michael addition/cyclization has been developed for the synthesis of benzo[4,5]imidazo[1,2-a]pyridines from α-bromocinnamaldehyde and 2-substituted benzimidazoles. The reaction promoted by a simple inorganic base displays moderate to good yields and good functional group tolerance. The optical properties of some typical products have been investigated. We found that, due to the presence of the benzene ring at the C1-position of benzo[4,5]imidazo[1,2-a]pyridines which restricts intramolecular motion, as a new type of aggregation-induced emission (AIE) luminogen (AIEgen), they show very good solid-state fluorescence with quantum yields up to 88.80%. Importantly, the AIE performance of compound 3b can be useful to detect the nitroaromatic explosive picric acid (PA) with a detection limit and quenching constant of 42.5 nM and 7.27 × 104 M-M, respectively.
