Stereoselective Reductive Coupling Reactions Utilizing [1,2]-Phospha-Brook Rearrangement: A Powerful Umpolung Approach

A diastereoselective strategy for dihydrophenanthrene-fused spirooxindoles via [1,2]-phospha-Brook rearrangement

A highly diastereoselective, one-pot strategy for spirooxindoles bearing dihydrophenanthrenes from readily available isatins and p-quinone methides (p-QMs) has been disclosed. Here, a sequential umpolung process via [1,2]-phospha-Brook rearrangement followed by Lewis acid-mediated intramolecular cyclization was employed to furnish the desired spiro product. This protocol provides access to potential medicinally relevant varieties of spirooxindolyl dihydrophenanthrenes in good to excellent yields and diastereoselectivity (>20 : 1).

Organophosphates as Versatile Substrates in Organic Synthesis

This review summarizes the applications of organophosphates in organic synthesis. After a brief introduction, it discusses cross-coupling reactions, including both transition-metal-catalyzed and transition-metal-free substitution reactions. Subsequently, oxidation and reduction reactions are described. In addition, this review highlights the applications of organophosphates in the synthesis of natural compounds, demonstrating their versatility and importance in modern synthetic chemistry.

Formation of N,N,N',N'-tetramethylethylenediamine via coupling of the two charge reversed C-N bonds of Me3NO in the presence of an Eu(II) bis(trimethylsilyl)amide complex

An N,N,N',N'-tetramethylethylenediamine (TMEDA) complex of Eu(II) was synthesized via an unprecedented self-aminomethylation of Me3NO in the presence of Eu[N(SiMe3)2]2(THF)2. The neutral TMEDA ligand is formed via the coupling of two charge reversed carbon centres from the same precursor Me3NO. In contrast, the reactions of LnII[N(SiMe3)2]2(THF)2 (Ln = Yb, Sm) with Me3NO led to the oxygen-bridged dinuclear complexes of Ln(III).

Ring-opening-isomerization anionic polymerization via Brook rearrangement

Ring-opening isomerization polymerization was developed using a combination of a ring-opening reaction of epoxides and subsequent Brook rearrangement. An epoxy monomer with a benzyltrimethylsilyl group was designed for the polymerization. Characterization of the obtained polymer by NMR and MALDI-TOF-MS indicated that polymerization proceeded exclusively via a ring-opening-isomerization anionic polymerization mechanism.

Sequential In Situ-Formed Kukhtin-Ramirez Adduct and P(NMe2)3-Catalyzed O-Phosphination of α-Dicarbonyls with P(O)-H

O-Phosphination of α-dicarbonyls via sequential in situ formation of a Kukhtin-Ramirez adduct and a P(NMe2)3-catalyzed process has been exploited for the synthesis of α-phosphoryloxy carbonyls. A range of P(O)-H derivatives, including diarylphosphine oxides, arylphosphinates, and phosphinates, are competent candidates to be introduced into the α-dicarbonyls in this transformation, and various α-phosphoryloxy carbonyls are obtained. This approach possesses advantages of mild conditions, simple operations, atom economy, high efficiency, and gram-scale synthesis, which make it promising in the synthesis toolbox.

Chiral Lewis Acid-Catalyzed Asymmetric Multicomponent Michael Reaction through [1,2]-Phospha-Brook Rearrangement

The multicomponent catalytic asymmetric Pudovik addition/[1,2]-phospha-Brook rearrangement/Michael reaction sequence of isatins, phosphites, and 4-oxobutenoates was realized. A series of oxindole derivatives containing two contiguous stereocenters was obtained in high yields and excellent stereoselectivities (up to >99% yield, >95:5 dr, >99% ee) using a chiral Lewis acid catalyst. A possible catalytic model is presented to illustrate the stereocontrol.
