Abstract
Current methods for the asymmetric α-sulfenylation of carbonyls cannot be applied to acyclic carbonyls that have two similar substituents at the α-position. This research demonstrated that the electrophilic sulfenylation of geometry-defined acyclic β,β-disubstituted enesulfinamides using S-aryl or S-alkyl benzenethiosulfonates can be highly stereoselective. This process results in enantioenriched α,α-disubstituted α-sulfenylated ketone surrogates with sulfur-containing acyclic tetrasubstituted carbon stereocenters bearing two electronically and sterically similar substituents (e.g., methyl and ethyl). Furthermore, by employing the corresponding stereoisomers of enensulfinamides, any of the four stereoisomers of α-sulfenylated ketimines can be selectively accessed.

Abstract
The discovery and synthetic applications of novel organoselenium compounds and their reactions proceeded rapidly during the past fifty years and such processes are now carried out routinely in many laboratories. At the same time, the growing demand for new enantioselective processes provided new challenges. The convergence of selenium chemistry and asymmetric synthesis led to key developments in the 1970s, although the majority of early work was based on stoichiometric processes. More recently, greater emphasis has been placed on greener catalytic variations, along with the discovery of novel reactions and a deeper understanding of their mechanisms. The present review covers the literature in this field from 2010 to early 2023 and encompasses asymmetric reactions mediated by chiral selenium-based reagents, auxiliaries, and especially, catalysts. Protocols based on achiral selenium compounds in conjunction with other species of chiral catalysts, as well as reactions that are controlled by chiral substrates, are also included.

Abstract
An asymmetric Michael addition/hydroarylation reaction sequence, catalyzed by a sequential catalytic system consisting of a squaramide and a combination of silver and gold salts, provides a new series of cyclic aza-spirooxindole derivatives in excellent yields (up to 94%) and high diastero- and enantioselectivities (up to 7 : 1 dr, up to >99% ee). Computational study has also been performed.

Abstract
In the field of organosulfur chemistry, sulfenylating agents are an important key in C-S bond formation strategies. Among various organosulfur precursors, N-sulfenylsuccinimide/phthalimide derivatives have shown highly electrophilic reactivity for the asymmetric synthesis of many organic compounds. Hence, in this review article, we focus on the application of these alternative sulfenylating reagents in organic transformations.

Abstract
Catalytic enantioselective sulfenylation to construct diheteroatom-bearing carbon centres was achieved by employing chiral guanidine organocatalysts. This protocol provided a facile route towards the synthesis of α-fluoro-α-sulfenyl-β-ketoamides, azlactone adducts and α-sulfur-substituted amino acid derivatives in high yields with good to excellent enantioselectivities. A possible working mode was proposed to elucidate the chiral control of the process.

Abstract
An asymmetric [3+3] cyclization of nitroenynes and 3-pyrrolyloxindoles has been realized with a chiral bifunctional squaramide catalyst. This Michael/Friedel-Crafts cascade strategy provides a facile and efficient access to enantioenriched polycyclic aza-spirooxindoles with 32-95% isolated yields and excellent stereocontrol under mild reaction conditions.

Abstract
α-Sulfenylated carbonyl compounds are important both as active pharmaceutical ingredients and as intermediates in organic synthesis. Owing to their relevance in synthetic organic chemistry, this Minireview focuses on assessing the most relevant synthetic procedures based on green chemistry metrics. The Minireview starts with the traditional routes and then focuses on more recently developed methodologies. These routes include sulfenylating reagents using organocatalysis, cross-dehydrogenative couplings using in situ halogenations to prevent reactive intermediates in high concentrations, oxidative couplings using terminal oxidants such as DDQ or TEMPO, and redox-neutral couplings using transition metal catalysis. These methodologies have been evaluated on the basis of atom economy, E factor, and the safety and toxicity of the transformations and the solvents used. Besides using green metrics to evaluate these novel methodologies, the synthetic utility is also assessed with regard to the availability of starting materials and the generality of the reactions. This Minireview aims to inspire researchers to apply green assessments to other methodologies and also for them to take measures to increase the greenness of their developed transformations.

Abstract
An organometal catalytic conversion of 3-aminooxindoles for the diastereo- and enantioselective synthesis of homoallylic aminooxindoles has been described. The asymmetric allylic alkylation of 3-aminooxindoles with allyl carboxylates proceeded smoothly to afford a series of chiral 3-allyl-3-aminooxindoles. This work offers an alternative route to build these scaffolds. The application of this protocol is also highlighted by a significant conversion of products to the potential applicable spiro[indoline-3,2'-pyrrolidin]-2-one derivatives.

Abstract
Chiral α-sulfenylated ketones are versatile building blocks, although there are still several limitations with their preparation. Here we report a new two-step procedure, consisting of Pd-catalyzed hydrothiolation of propargylic alcohols followed by an enantioselective Rh isomerization of allylic alcohols. The isomerization reaction is the key step for obtaining the ketones in their enantioenriched form. The new methodology has a high atom economy and induces good to high levels of enantioselectivity; no waste is produced. A mechanism involving a Rh-hydride-enone intermediate is proposed for the isomerization reaction.

Abstract
An organo-catalyzed enantioselective addition of selenosulfonates to α,β-unsaturated ketones was developed for the first time. With a chiral squaramide as an efficient catalyst, the desired α-selenylated ketones were obtained in a good yields with high enantioselectivity up to 89% ee, and good results could be obtained on a gram scale. The products could also be efficiently transformed into useful building blocks with a propenylic stereocenter; the strategy presented in this study may find further applications in organic synthesis.

Abstract
A one-pot, stereoselective construction of 2,3-dihydroxy-2,3-diaryltetrahydrofurans has been achieved via N-heterocyclic carbene (NHC)/base-mediated domino reactions of aldehydes and vinyl selenone. The products containing two contiguous quaternary hydroxyl functionalities among the three stereocenters are obtained advantageously as either acetals or ketals through the formation of five new chemical bonds in a single operation. This report constitutes an altogether different reactivity of vinyl selenone in comparison with the corresponding sulfones and phosphonates under NHC/base-mediated reactions.

Abstract
Ruthenium-catalyzed C-H functionalization was successfully combined with palladium-catalyzed asymmetric allylic alkylation in one pot. The novel dual-metal-catalyzed reaction provides a variety of 3-allyl-3-aryl oxindoles from the corresponding α-diazoamides in up to 99% yield with up to 85% ee. The appropriate ligand choice is important to promote the sequential reaction, avoiding undesired metal interaction or ligand exchange.

Abstract
We report the first example of highly enantioselective synthesis of structurally diverse chiral dithioketals via asymmetric sulfenylation of various types of S-based nucleophiles, catalyzed by a cheap cinchona alkaloid derivative, dihydroquinine.
