Abstract
A highly regioselective 5-exo-dig cyclization of aromatic N-propargyloxycarbonyl guanidines was developed via an Ag(I)-catalyzed intramolecular hydroamination reaction. This method features a fast reaction rate and mild reaction conditions. Furthermore, it was extended to access halogenated analogues via a one-pot Ag(I)-catalyzed bromocyclization reaction or an I2-mediated iodocyclization reaction with high E/Z selectivity.

Abstract
The selective hetero-dihalogenation of alkenes provides useful building blocks for a broad range of chemical applications. Unlike homo-dihalogenation, selective hetero-dihalogenation reactions, especially fluorohalogenation, are underdeveloped. Current approaches combine an electrophilic halogen source with a nucleophilic halogen source, which necessarily leads to anti-addition, and regioselectivity has only been achieved using highly activated alkenes. Here we describe an alternative, nucleophile-nucleophile approach that adds chloride and fluoride ions over unactivated alkenes in a highly regio-, chemo- and diastereoselective manner. A curious switch in the reaction mechanism was discovered, which triggers a complete reversal of the diastereoselectivity to promote either anti- or syn-addition. The conditions are demonstrated on an array of pharmaceutically relevant compounds, and detailed mechanistic studies reveal the selectivity and the switch between the syn- and anti-diastereomers are based on different active iodanes and which of the two halides adds first.

Abstract
Despite the rapid growth of enantioselective halolactonization reactions in recent years, most are effective only when forming smaller (6,5,4-membered) rings. Seven-membered ε-lactones, are rarely formed with high selectivity, and never without conformational bias. We describe the first highly enantioselective 7-exo-trig iodolactonizations of conformationally unbiased ε-unsaturated carboxylic acids, effected by an unusual combination of a bifunctional BAM catalyst, I2, and I(iii) reagent (PhI(OAc)2:PIDA). Abstract
A convergent access to substituted 2-iminoimidazolidines from aromatic amines and N-propargyl S-methylthiourea is developed via Ag(I)-mediated cascade guanylation-cyclization reactions. This method features high regioselectivity, excellent efficiency, and mild reaction conditions. Subsequent deprotection of the Boc (tert-butyloxycarbonyl) group under acidic conditions provides expedient access to aryl 2-aminoimidazole derivatives in a convenient manner.

Abstract
The convenient preparation of N2-unprotected five-membered cyclic guanidines was achieved through a cascade [3 + 2] cycloaddition between organo-cyanamides and α-haloamides under mild conditions in good to excellent yields (up to 99%). The corresponding cyclic guanidines could be easily transformed into hydantoins via hydrolysis.

Abstract
Hypervalent iodine reagents are of considerable relevance in organic chemistry as they can provide a complementary reaction strategy to the use of traditional transition metal chemistry. Over the past two decades, there have been an increasing number of applications including stoichiometric oxidation and catalytic asymmetric variations. This review outlines the main advances in the past 10 years in regard to alkene heterofunctionalization chemistry using achiral and chiral hypervalent iodine reagents and catalysts.

Abstract
Five different halofunctionalizations of acyclic monoterpenoids were performed using a combination of a hypervalent iodine(III) reagent and a halide salt. In this manner, the dibromination, the bromo(trifluoro)acetoxylation, the bromohydroxylation, the iodo(trifluoro)acetoxylation or the ene-type chlorination of the distal trisubstituted double bond occurred with excellent selectivity and moderate to good yields.

Abstract
A 1,4-diazabicyclo[2.2.2]octane (DABCO) catalyzed selenocyclization of olefinic amides was achieved under mild reaction conditions. The reaction formed various benzeneselenyl substituted isobenzofuran-1(3H)-imine derivatives in good yields. The product was determined using single-crystal X-ray analysis. For compound 2u, the relative stereochemistry was established on the basis of NOESY NMR studies.

Abstract
Palladium-catalyzed carboamination reactions of N-allylguanidines bearing cleavable N-cyano or N-arylsulfonyl protecting groups are described. The reactions afford cyclic guanidine products in good yield, and transformations of substrates bearing internal alkenes proceed with high diastereoselectivity. Deuterium labeling studies indicate these transformations proceed via anti-aminopalladation pathways.

Abstract
The silver-catalyzed hydroamination of tosyl-protected N-allylguanidines is described. These reactions provide substituted cyclic guanidines in high yields. The reactions are amenable to the construction of quaternary stereocenters as well as both monocyclic and bicyclic guanidine products.
