Abstract
A versatile Ir(iii)-catalyzed C-H amidation of arenes by employing readily available and stable OH-free hydroxyamides as a novel amidation source. The reaction occurred with high efficiency and tolerance of a range of functional groups. A wide scope of aryl OH-free hydroxyzamides, including conjugated and challenging non-conjugated OH-free hydroxyzamides, were capable of this transformation and no addition of an external oxidant is required. This protocol provided a simple, straightforward and economic method to a variety N-(2-(1H-pyrazol-1-yl)alkyl)amide derivates with good to excellent yield. Mechanistic study demonstrated that reversible C-H bond functionalisation might be involved in this reaction.

Suzuki-Miyaura Cross-Coupling of 2-Pyridyl Trimethylammonium Salts by N-C Activation Catalyzed by Air- and Moisture-Stable Pd-NHC Precatalysts: Application to the Discovery of Agrochemicals. Abstract
We report the first Suzuki-Miyaura cross-coupling of 2-pyridyl ammonium salts by highly selective N-C activation catalyzed by air- and moisture-stable Pd(II)-NHC (NHC = N-heterocyclic carbene) precatalysts. The use of well-defined and highly reactive [Pd(IPr)(3-CF3-An)Cl2] (An = aniline) or [Pd(IPr)(cin)Cl] (cin = cinnamyl) Pd(II)-NHC catalysts permits an exceptionally broad scope of the cross-coupling to furnish valuable biaryl and heterobiarylpyridines that are ubiquitous in medicinal chemistry and agrochemistry research. The overall process leverages the Chichibabin C-H amination of pyridines with N-C activation to enable an attractive strategy to the 2-pyridyl problem. The utility of the method to the discovery of potent agrochemicals is presented. Considering the importance of 2-pyridines and the versatility of N-C activation methods, we envision that this new C-H/N-C activation strategy will find broad application.

Abstract
A nickel-promoted cascade annulation reaction for the facile synthesis of 3H-1,2,4-triazol-3-ones from readily available hydrazonoyl chlorides and sodium cyanate has been developed. The transformation occurs through a cascade nickel-promoted intermolecular nucleophilic addition-elimination process, intramolecular nucleophilic addition, and a hydrogen-transfer sequence. The method has been successfully applied for the construction of the core skeleton of the angiotensin II antagonist.

Abstract
C-H activation has surfaced as an increasingly powerful tool for molecular sciences, with notable applications to material sciences, crop protection, drug discovery, and pharmaceutical industries, among others. Despite major advances, the vast majority of these C-H functionalizations required precious 4d or 5d transition metal catalysts. Given the cost-effective and sustainable nature of earth-abundant first row transition metals, the development of less toxic, inexpensive 3d metal catalysts for C-H activation has gained considerable recent momentum as a significantly more environmentally-benign and economically-attractive alternative. Herein, we provide a comprehensive overview on first row transition metal catalysts for C-H activation until summer 2018.
