Abstract
A microwave-promoted multicomponent reaction of isatins, α-amino acids and 1,4-dihydro-1,4-epoxynaphthalene is achieved under environmentally friendly conditions, delivering oxygen-bridged spirooxindoles within 15 min in good to excellent yields. The attractive features of the 1,3-dipolar cycloaddition are the compatibility of various primary amino acids and the high efficiency of the short reaction time. Moreover, the scale-up reaction and synthetic transformations of spiropyrrolidine oxindole further demonstrate its synthetic utility. This work provides powerful means to expand the structural diversity of spirooxindole as a promising scaffold for novel drug discovery.

Abstract
A new and crucial synthon of 3-((diphenylmethylene)-amino)-oxindole was designed and synthesized, for which an organocatalytic and enantioselective Michael/cyclization reaction with a terminal vinyl ketone catalyzed by a cinchona base was disclosed. A wide variety (28 examples) of almost all new chiral spiro[oxindol-3,2'-pyrrols] were prepared in excellent yields (up to 99%) with excellent enantioselectivities (95-99% ee), of which a typical chiral spiro product was further reduced to chiral spiro[oxindole-3,2'-pyrrolidine].

Abstract
Newly designed 3-((2,2,2-trifluoroethyl)amino)indolin-2-ones were used for the facile synthesis of chiral fluoroalkyl-containing 3,2'-spirooxindole γ-lactam products. The secondary amine-catalysed Michael/hemiaminalization cascade reaction of 3-((2,2,2-trifluoroethyl)amino)indolin-2-one with α,β-unsaturated aldehydes followed by oxidation can easily produce the desired products in high yields (up to 86%) with excellent enantioselectivities (up to 99% ee) and diastereoselectivities (up to >95 : 5 dr).

Abstract
An organometal catalytic conversion of 3-aminooxindoles for the diastereo- and enantioselective synthesis of homoallylic aminooxindoles has been described. The asymmetric allylic alkylation of 3-aminooxindoles with allyl carboxylates proceeded smoothly to afford a series of chiral 3-allyl-3-aminooxindoles. This work offers an alternative route to build these scaffolds. The application of this protocol is also highlighted by a significant conversion of products to the potential applicable spiro[indoline-3,2'-pyrrolidin]-2-one derivatives.

Abstract
A catalytic asymmetric conjugate addition/Schmidt-type rearrangement of vinyl azides and (E)-alkenyloxindoles was realized. It afforded a variety of optically active 3,2'-pyrrolinyl spirooxindoles with high yields (up to 98%), and excellent diastereo- and enantioselectivities (up to 98% ee, >19 : 1 dr), even at the gram-scale in the presence of a chiral N,N'-dioxide-nickel(ii) complex. In addition, a possible catalytic cycle and transition state model were proposed to rationalize the stereoselectivity.

Abstract
A nanocatalyst constructed from reduced graphene oxide and iridium atoms (RGOIrNc) showed high selectivity (99%-100%) and reliability for the transformation of aromatic alcohols into carbonyl compounds via ultrasonication without using harmful chemicals and solvents. Experimental data including Fourier transform infrared spectroscopy, x-ray diffraction, spherical-aberration-corrected field emission transmission electron microscopy and Raman spectra confirmed the nanostructure of the RGOIrNc. Noticeably, the structural characteristics of this catalyst remained unchanged within 25 catalytic cycles and the activity and selectivity for the transformation of benzylic alcohols showed good stability. The average turnover frequency is greater than 9000 h-1, the total turnover number is more than 150 000 after 25 catalytic cycles and the productivity of carbonyl compounds reaches 376 048 [Formula: see text], indicating that RGOIrNc catalyst has good durability and stability and high 'greenness'.

Abstract
A novel stereocontrolled assembly of spiro[oxindole-3,2'-pyrrolidines] via [3+2]-cycloaddition of donor-acceptor cyclopropanes to electron-poor ketimines, iminooxindoles, was developed. The method allows for efficient employment of common readily available donor-acceptor cyclopropanes, functionalized with ester, keto, nitro, cyano etc. groups, and N-unprotected iminooxindoles. The stereospecificity of the initial SN2-like imine attack on a cyclopropane molecule together with a high diastereoselectivity of further C-C bond formation facilitate a rapid access to spiro[oxindole-3,2'-pyrrolidines] in their optically active forms. Preliminary in vitro testing of the synthesized compounds against LNCaP (p53+) and PC-3 (p53-) cells revealed good antiproliferative activities and p53-selectivity indices for several compounds that are intriguing in terms of their further investigation as inhibitors of MDM2-p53 interaction.

Abstract
An enantioselective domino Michael-Michael reaction of nitroolefins and 2-nitro-3-arylacrylates has been established, which provided a series of spirocyclopentane oxindoles with four consecutive stereocenters including quaternary α-nitro esters with good yields (up to 73%) and excellent enantioselectivities (up to 97% ee). The reaction was realized and optimized with the aid of a chiral squaramide-amine catalyst. The structures of 11 products were confirmed by single-crystal X-ray diffraction analysis.

Abstract
The synthesis of spiro[indoline-3,2'-pyrrole]-2,5'(1'H)-diones and spiro[indoline-3,2'-pyrrolidine]-2,5'-diones, via a post-Ugi-domino transamidation/cyclization sequential process, has been achieved in three sequential steps utilizing a one-pot reaction protocol. The variation in carboxylic acid substrates allows for the generation of new chiral racemic quaternary carbon centers under basic conditions providing molecular diversity and a small library of spirocyclic oxindoles.

Abstract
A quinine-derived trifunctional sulphonamide catalyst has been developed for the effective asymmetric organocatalytic tandem aza-Henry reaction-cyclization of isatin-derived ketimines and nitroalkane-mesylates for the synthesis of spiro-pyrrolidine/piperidine-oxindoles. Demethylation of traditional bifunctional catalyst to incorporate an additional hydrogen bonding C6'-OH group plays the key role toward remarkable enantioselectivity.
