Abstract
Enantioselective protonation is a versatile approach to the construction of tertiary α-stereocenters, which are common structural motifs in various natural products and biologically relevant compounds. Herein we report a mild access to these chiral centers using cooperative gold(I) catalysis. From cyclic ketone enol carbonates, this asymmetric catalysis provides highly enantioselective access to cyclic ketones featuring an α tertiary chiral center, including challenging 2-methylsuberone. In combination with the gold-catalyzed formation of cyclopentadienyl carbonates in a one-pot, two-step process, this chemistry enables expedient access to synthetically versatile α'-chiral cyclopentenones with excellent enantiomeric excesses from easily accessible enynyl carbonate substrates.

Abstract
The chiral oxazoline motif is present in many ligands that have been extensively applied in a series of important metal-catalyzed enantioselective reactions. This Review aims to provide a comprehensive overview of the most significant applications of oxazoline-containing ligands reported in the literature starting from 2009 until the end of 2018. The ligands are classified not by the reaction to which their metal complexes have been applied but by the nature of the denticity, chirality, and donor atoms involved. As a result, the continued development of ligand architectural design from mono(oxazolines), to bis(oxazolines), to tris(oxazolines) and tetra(oxazolines) and variations thereof can be more easily monitored by the reader. In addition, the key transition states of selected asymmetric transformations will be given to illustrate the features that give rise to high levels of asymmetric induction. As a further aid to the reader, we summarize the majority of schemes with representative examples that highlight the variation in % yields and % ees for carefully selected substrates. This Review should be of particular interest to the experts in the field but also serve as a useful starting point to new researchers in this area. It is hoped that this Review will stimulate both the development/design of new ligands and their applications in novel metal-catalyzed asymmetric transformations.

Abstract
This Review compiles the evolution, mechanistic understanding, and more recent advances in enantioselective Pd-catalyzed allylic substitution and decarboxylative and oxidative allylic substitutions. For each reaction, the catalytic data, as well as examples of their application to the synthesis of more complex molecules, are collected. Sections in which we discuss key mechanistic aspects for high selectivity and a comparison with other metals (with advantages and disadvantages) are also included. For Pd-catalyzed asymmetric allylic substitution, the catalytic data are grouped according to the type of nucleophile employed. Because of the prominent position of the use of stabilized carbon nucleophiles and heteronucleophiles, many chiral ligands have been developed. To better compare the results, they are presented grouped by ligand types. Pd-catalyzed asymmetric decarboxylative reactions are mainly promoted by PHOX or Trost ligands, which justifies organizing this section in chronological order. For asymmetric oxidative allylic substitution the results are grouped according to the type of nucleophile used.

Abstract
Here, we report a general method for the synthesis of quaternary and tertiary difluoromethylated compounds and their vinylfluoride analogues. The strategy, which relies on a two-step sequence featuring a C-selective electrophilic difluoromethylation and either a palladium-catalyzed decarboxylative protonation or a Krapcho decarboxylation, is practical, scalable, and high yielding. Considering the generality of the method and the attractive properties offered by the difluoromethyl group, this approach provides a valuable tool for late-stage functionalization and drug development.

Abstract
Asymmetric catalysis represents an efficient approach to prepare optically active compounds. Commonly, both enantiomers of a chiral catalyst are used to synthesize two enantiomers of a chiral compound, however, it is quite difficult to obtain the catalysts with opposite configurations in most cases. Thus, chemists pay much attention to look for new strategies. Enantiodivergent synthesis demonstrates cost effectiveness and practicability to solve this issue by tuning the reaction parameters with the use of ligands derived from a single chiral source. In 2003 and 2008, two reviews have commendably summarized the enantiodivergent reactions, and some representative examples were illustrated. In this review, reversal of enantioselectivity in metal complex-mediated asymmetric catalysis from 2008 to present was updated. Several factors of delivering enantiodivergence are introduced, including metal salts, ligands, additives, solvents, temperature and so on.

Abstract
We report an enantioselective photoredox dehalogenative protonation as a new type of asymmetric protonation.
We report an enantioselective photoredox dehalogenative protonation as a new type of asymmetric protonation. As a paradigm, with a cooperative catalytic system consisting of a chiral H-bonding catalyst and a dicyanopyrazine-derived chromophore (DPZ) photosensitizer that is irradiated with visible light, a range of cyclic and acyclic ketones with labile chiral secondary C–F, C–Cl and C–Br bonds at the α-position were obtained in high yields with good to excellent enantioselectivities (up to >99% ee) by using a secondary amine as the terminal reductant. Given the ready accessibility of halides, the success of this work should provide inspiration for constructing diverse chiral α-tertiary carbonyls and their variants.

Abstract
Enantioselective protonation, delivery of a proton to a carbanion intermediate, is the most straightforward and fundamental method for the preparation of a chiral tertiary carbon stereocenter. Recent efforts for this objective have been realized through enamine catalysis, which has now become a prominent catalytic strategy enabling a range of fascinating chiral transformations. This review will summarize recent advances in the field of enantioselective enamine protonation for the synthesis of optically active carbonyl compounds. Dynamic kinetic resolutions of α-substituted carbonyl compounds through enamine intermediates will be discussed as well.

Abstract
Protodepalladation is the redox-neutral conversion of a C-Pd(II) bond to a C-H bond promoted by a Brønsted acid. It can be viewed as the microscopic reserves of Pd(II)-mediated C-H cleavage. In the context of catalytic reaction development, protodepalladation offers a means of converting organopalladium(II) intermediates to organic products without a change in oxidation state at the metal center. Hence, when integrated into catalytic cycles, it can be a uniquely enabling elementary step. The goal of this Review is to provide an overview of protodepalladation, including exploration of different reactions types, discussion of literature examples, and analysis of mechanistic features. Our hope is that this review will stimulate other researchers in the field to pursue new applications of this underexploited step in catalysis.

Abstract
This review covers diastereo- and enantiodivergent catalyzed reactions in acyclic and cyclic systems using metal complexes or organocatalysts. Among them, nucleophilic addition to carbon-carbon and carbon-nitrogen double bonds, α-functionalization of carbonyl compounds, allylic substitutions, and ring opening of oxiranes and aziridines are considered. The diastereodivergent synthesis of alkenes from alkynes is also included. Finally, stereodivergent intramolecular and intermolecular cycloadditions and other cyclizations are also reported.

Abstract
On the basis of the cyclization reactions reported by Danishefsky et al. of Meldrum's acid hydroxylethyl and anilinoethyl derivatives, the cyclization of the sulfamidomethylene and ureidomethylene derivatives was attempted without success. To understand the lack of reactivity of these compounds versus the successful cyclization of the ethyl derivatives, the corresponding mechanisms of reaction for both processes have been explored by means of MP2/6-311+G(d,p) calculations in an aqueous environment. The conformational analysis of all of these structures revealed that, while for the ethyl derivatives the minimum energy conformation corresponds to that of the cyclization initiating structure, for the methylene analogues the entrance channel conformations are substantially less stable than the energy minimum. Intramolecular hydrogen bonds were found in all of the energy minima as well as in the cyclization initiating conformations as determined by analysis of their electron density. The potential energy surfaces for the successful and unsuccessful cyclization processes were obtained at room temperature and 100 °C. Comparison of both processes allows rationalization that the lack of reactivity of the methylene derivatives can be thermodynamically explained based not only on the strength of the intramolecular hydrogen bond formed in their energy minima but also by the energy penalty needed to reach the entrance channel conformation and by the calculated energy barriers.

Abstract
We report a divergent and modular protocol for the preparation of acyclic molecular frameworks containing newly created quaternary carbon stereocenters. Central to this approach is a sequence composed of a (1) regioselective and -retentive preparation of allyloxycarbonyl-trapped fully substituted stereodefined amide enolates and of a (2) enantioselective palladium-catalyzed decarboxylative allylic alkylation reaction using a novel bisphosphine ligand.
