Abstract
Polycyclic heterocycles are the most common and critical structural motifs found in a variety of natural products, medicines, fertilizers, and advanced materials. Because of their widespread use in biologically active compounds and material chemistry, functionalised dibenzo heterocyclic compounds, especially dibenzofuran, dibenzothiophene, and carbazole derivatives, garnered much attention over time. Scientists are especially interested in elucidating more efficient techniques for developing these industrially essential compounds. Dibenzo-fused heterocycles can rapidly be synthesised using highly efficient transition metal-catalysed strategies as well as by economic metal-free reaction conditions. This review includes a detailed overview of the most recent significant synthetic techniques, both metal-catalysed and metal-free, to produce these industrially significant and medicinally important dibenzo-fused heterocycles.

Abstract
The visible light-promoted O-alkenylation of phenols and naphthols with terminal alkynes is achieved using 2,4,6-tris(4-fluorophenyl)pyrylium tetrafluoroborate (T(p-F)PPT) as a photocatalyst at room temperature without the need of any external ligand or additive. Apart from its excellent functional group tolerance, the protocol described herein represents an appealing alternative strategy to classical transition-metal catalysed hydroarylation reactions. Mechanistic investigations revealed that the reaction involves a radical pathway. The utility of the hydroarylated products for the synthesis of fused benzofurans via a one-pot annulation was also demonstrated. Herein, we report the first intermolecular radical hydroarylation of alkynes.

Abstract
This review reports recent accesses to the dibenzofuran nucleus described in the literature since 2008. This article starts with synthesizing dibenzofurans by creating the C-O bond of the furan ring. In the following section, we evoke the formation of dibenzofurans by cyclizing diarylether derivatives. The last part of this update concerns the construction of dibenzofurans from benzofuran or phenol derivatives. Representative examples showing the scope of these processes illustrate new approaches and biological activities of dibenzofurans. Reaction mechanisms explaining certain dibenzofuran formation are described, as suggested by their authors.

Abstract
Arenediazonium salts have gained attention in the scientific community due to their numerous synthetic applications. In the traditional method of dediazoniation of arenediazonium salts, the requirements for toxic oxidants and costly catalysts affect their cost-effectiveness and sustainability. However, recent advances in synthetic organic electrochemistry allow for the in situ reduction of arenediazonium salts, affording different functionalizations under mild reaction conditions and with a shorter reaction time. Herein, we report advances up to now of facile organic electrochemical syntheses using arenediazonium salt precursors that avoid the use of hazardous reductants.

Abstract
Obesity is a complex disease defined as an excessive amount of body fat. It is considered a risk factor for several pathologies; therefore, there is an increasing interest in its treatment. Pancreatic lipase (PL) plays a key role in fat digestion, and its inhibition is a preliminary step in the search for anti-obesity agents. For this reason, many natural compounds and their derivatives are studied as new PL inhibitors. This study reports the synthesis of a library of new compounds inspired by two natural neolignans, honokiol (1) and magnolol (2) and bearing amino or nitro groups linked to a biphenyl core. The synthesis of unsymmetrically substituted biphenyls was achieved through an optimisation of the Suzuki-Miyaura cross-coupling reaction followed by the insertion of allyl chains, thus furnishing the O- and/or N-allyl derivatives, and finally, a sigmatropic rearrangement yielding in some cases, the C-allyl analogues. Magnolol, honokiol and the twenty-one synthesised biphenyls were evaluated for their in vitro inhibitory activity toward PL. Three compounds (15b, 16 and 17b) were more effective inhibitors than the natural neolignans (magnolol IC50 = 158.7 µM and honokiol IC50 = 115.5 µM) with IC50 of 41-44 µM. Detailed studies through kinetics suggested better inhibitory activity of the synthetic analogues compared with the natural 1 and 2. Magnolol (Ki = 614.3 µM; K'i of 140.9 µM) and the synthetic biphenyls 15b (Ki = 286.4 µM; K'i = 36.6 µM) and 16 (Ki = 176.2 µM; K'i = 6.4 µM) are mixed-type inhibitors, whereas honokiol (Ki = 674.8 µM) and 17b (Ki = 249 µM) are competitive inhibitors. Docking studies corroborated these findings, showing the best fitting for intermolecular interaction between biphenyl neolignans and PL. The above outcomes highlighted how the proposed structures could be considered interesting candidates for future studies for the development of more effective PL inhibitors.

Abstract
Pim kinases (proviral integration site for Moloney murine leukemia virus kinases) are overexpressed in various types of hematological malignancies and solid carcinomas, and promote cell proliferation and survival. Thus, Pim kinases are validated as targets for antitumor therapy. In this context, our combined efforts in natural product-inspired library generation and screening furnished very promising dibenzo[b,d]furan derivatives derived from cercosporamide. Among them, lead compound 44 was highlighted as a potent Pim-1/2 kinases inhibitor with an additional nanomolar IC50 value against CLK1 (cdc2-like kinases 1) and displayed a low micromolar anticancer potency towards the MV4-11 (AML) cell line, expressing high endogenous levels of Pim-1/2 kinases. The design, synthesis, structure-activity relationship, and docking studies are reported herein and supported by enzyme, cellular assays, and Galleria mellonella larvae testing for acute toxicity.

Abstract
Existing synthetic routes for accessing dibenzofuran core have intrinsic regioselectivity, limiting the substitution patterns available in heteropolycyclic arene products. Here we report a double 1,4-conjugate addition/intramolecular annulation cascade reaction between propargylamines and two equivalents of imidazolium methylides that allows efficient access of structurally versatile dibenzofurans. This transition metal-free protocol proceeds smoothly under bench-top air atmosphere and offers easy manipulation of substituents on the dibenzofuran core, and also provides good-to-excellent product yields with good functional group tolerance, particularly the -Br and -Cl groups which are often incompatible with existing metal-catalyzed C-C and/or C-O bond ring-forming processes. It is worth noting that ladder-type π-systems with all-arene quarternary carbon structure can be straightforwardly generated upon simple late-stage functionalization.

Abstract
The total synthesis of mallotusinin, which bears a tetrahydroxydibenzofuranoyl (THDBF) bridge between the 2-oxygen and 4-oxygen of glucose on corilagin with a 3,6-O-(R)-hexahydroxydiphenoyl (HHDP) bridge, is described. The key features of the total synthesis are: 1) improvements of our previously reported method to synthesize corilagin; 2) establishment of the THDBF skeleton via an unusual intramolecular SN Ar reaction of an HHDP analogue, and 3) the application of a two-step bislactonization strategy for a HHDP bridge construction into the 2,4-O-THDBF bridge. Oxidative phenol coupling of 1,2,4-orthoacetyl-3,6-di-(4-O-benzylgalloyl)-α-d-glucopyranose and the orthoester cleavage of the coupling product without the pyranose-furanose ring transformation are key reactions for the improved synthesis of corilagin, which enabled the adequate supply of a corilagin precursor that was required to develop the mallotusinin synthesis. These established methods are expected to help develop the synthesis of other ellagitannins with a bridge between the two oxygens of corilagin.

Abstract
An unexpected [4 + 1 + 1] annulation between α-bromo carbonyls and 1-azadienes, derived from 2-methylenebenzofuran-3(2 H)-ones or 2-methylenebenzo[ b]thiophene-3(2 H)-ones, has been observed in the presence of DABCO and Cs2CO3. These reactions stand in contrast to the common [4 + 1] cyclization reactions of azadienes with the related sulfonium ylides. A range of fused benzofuro[3,2- b]pyridines and benzo[4,5]thieno[3,2- b]pyridines have been efficiently constructed in fair to excellent yields.

Abstract
A method has been developed for the synthesis of fluoroalkylated oximes, potential fluoroalkyl building-blocks for the synthesis of various organofluorine compounds, from easily available amino substrates and fluoroalkylated alkenes. tBuONO was utilized both as a diazotizing agent and as a NO radical source for the oxime synthesis in the process, and the use of a photocatalyst under visible-light irradiation increased the efficiency of the reaction. Various fluoroalkylated oximes were prepared by a tandem process of aryl radical addition to fluoroalkylated alkene and consecutive oxime generation process, albeit in moderate yields. This differentiated approach, transferring an aromatic system into an electron-deficient fluoroalkylated alkene, expands the scope of substrates where electron-poor aromatic systems could be utilized.
