Spectroscopic Analysis of Cu(II)-Complexed Thin Films to Characterize Molecular-Level Interactions and Film Behavior

Photocurrent Enhancement by Copper Incorporation in Chemical-Solution-Synthesized Inorganic Lead Perovskite Thin Films

Perovskite thin films are at the forefront of highly promising photovoltaic technologies due to their remarkable optoelectronic properties. Herein, we explore a low-cost, reproducible, and industry-scalable methodology to synthesize an all-inorganic CsPbI1.5Br1.5 perovskite thin film with additional incorporation of copper and chloride ions into the lattice structure. The synthesis process involves chemical bath deposition of PbS, followed by a gas-solid iodination reaction to yield PbI2. Subsequently, dip-coating incorporates Cs+, Cu2+, Br-, and Cl- ions into PbI2, and annealing at 270 °C produces perovskite thin films. The results show a large coverage area and a uniform thickness of each perovskite thin film. Comprehensive characterization, including X-ray diffraction, Raman spectroscopy, X-ray photoelectron spectroscopy, scanning electron microscopy, and photoluminescence, provides the structural, chemical, and optical properties of the synthesized thin films. To evaluate the practical implications of our methodology, we fabricated photodetectors employing CsPbI1.5Br1.5 and (Cs0.95:Cu0.01)PbI1.5Br1.3Cl0.1 perovskite films. A comparative analysis unequivocally demonstrates a significant increase in photodetector performance when utilizing (Cs0.95:Cu0.01)PbI1.5Br1.3Cl0.1 perovskite films. While our findings quantitatively assess the tangible enhancement in photocurrent, we acknowledge the potential for improvement in device fabrication to enhance the overall performance. This study not only affirms the successful low-cost synthesis of perovskite thin films but also emphasizes the pivotal role of Cu2+ and Cl- ions in enhancing the performance of perovskite-based optoelectronic devices.

Quantitating the Binding Energy of Metal Ions to Langmuir-Blodgett Monolayers: The Copper(II)-Octadecylphosphonic Acid System

We report on the formation and organization of a Cu²⁺-complexed octadecylphosphonic acid (ODPA) monolayer formed by Langmuir-Blodgett deposition. The formation of the Cu-complexed monolayer is seen to depend sensitively on the subphase pH and Cu²⁺ concentration, and it is possible to form a monolayer containing the regions of complexed and free ODPA. From the pressure-area isotherm data for these monolayers, we determine the equilibrium constant and free energy of formation for the Cu²⁺-ODPA complex, ΔG = -22.5 kJ/mol.

Fluorescence Recovery after Photobleaching in Colloidal Science: Introduction and Application

FRAP (fluorescence recovery after photo bleaching) is a method for determining diffusion in material science. In industrial applications such as medications, foods, Medtech, hygiene, and textiles, the diffusion process has a substantial influence on the overall qualities of goods. All these complex and heterogeneous systems have diffusion-based processes at the local level. FRAP is a fluorescence-based approach for detecting diffusion; in this method, a high-intensity laser is made for a brief period and then applied to the samples, bleaching the fluorescent chemical inside the region, which is subsequently filled up by natural diffusion. This brief Review will focus on the existing research on employing FRAP to measure colloidal system heterogeneity and explore diffusion into complicated structures. This description of FRAP will be followed by a discussion of how FRAP is intended to be used in colloidal science. When constructing the current Review, the most recent publications were reviewed for this assessment. Because of the large number of FRAP articles in colloidal research, there is currently a dearth of knowledge regarding the growth of FRAP's significance to colloidal science. Colloids make up only 2% of FRAP papers, according to ISI Web of Knowledge.

Translational Diffusion Dynamics in Divalent Metal-Phosphonate Monolayers

Self-assembled monolayers are attractive for surface modification due to their ease of synthesis and the range of chemical functionality that can be applied. Metal-phosphonate monolayer properties can be controlled through the metal ions that can be used in their formation. The organization and fluid properties of these monolayers can be understood in the context of their thermodynamic properties and the association and dissociation kinetics that proceed at the metal-phosphonate complex. In this work, four different M(II)-phosphonate monolayers were synthesized and the diffusional behavior of free and tethered chromophores was evaluated using fluorescence recovery after photobleaching measurements. The ω-terminal group identity of the metal-phosphonate monolayer was varied to determine its effect on monolayer dynamics.
