Abstract
Boosting the circularly polarized luminescence of small organic molecules has been a stubborn challenge because of weak structure rigidity and dynamic molecular motions. To investigate and eliminate these factors, here, we carried out the structure-property relationship studies on a newly-developed axial chiral scaffold of bidibenzo[b,d]furan. The molecular rigidity was finely tuned by gradually reducing the alkyl-chain length. The environmental factors were considered in solution, crystal, and polymer matrix at different temperatures. As a result, a significant amplification of the dissymmetry factor glum from 10-4 to 10-1 was achieved, corresponding to the situation from (R)-4C in solution to (R)-1C in polymer film at room temperature. A synergistic strategy of increasing the intramolecular rigidity and enhancing the intermolecular interaction to restrict the molecular motions was thus proposed to improve circularly polarized luminescence. The though-out demonstrated relationship will be of great importance for the development of high-performance small organic chiroptical systems in the future.

Abstract
Herein, the synthesis and chemical resolution of 1,1'-spirobisindane-3,3'-dione have been accomplished utilizing inexpensive and readily available benzaldehyde and acetone as starting materials, and (1R,2R)- or (1S,2S)-1,2-diphenylethane-1,2-diol as a recyclable chiral resolution reagent. The further transformation of R- and S-1,1'-spirobisindane-3,3'-dione into chiral monomers and polymers has been achieved by the reasonable design of the synthetic route and the optimization of the polymerization conditions. The resulting chiroptical polymers exhibit blue emission with thermally activated delayed fluorescence (TADF), excellent optical activities with circular dichroism intensities per molar absorption coefficient (gabs) of up to 6.4 × 10-3, and intense circularly polarized luminescence (CPL) with luminescence dissymmetry factor (glum) values of up to 2.4 × 10-3.

Abstract
Chiral semiconductor nanostructures have received enormous attention due to their emerging circularly polarized luminescence (CPL) properties. However, compared with well-studied photoluminescence (PL), the reported CPL is much weaker and more challenging to be modulated. Herein, we describe a new approach for acquiring the intense and tunable CPL from inorganic chiral photonic crystals (CPCs) doped with semiconductor quantum dots (QDs). Unprecedentedly, the sign, position and intensity of CPL peaks can be precisely controlled by manipulating either the photonic band gap of CPCs or luminescence wavelength of QDs and a giant absolute dissymmetry factor |glum | up to 0.25 is obtained. More importantly, the origin of the CPL modulation is clearly elucidated by both experiment and theory. This work lays the foundation for the construction of next-generation high-performance CPL-based devices.
