Abstract
First, an organic semiconductor fluorescent molecule of 4',4″,4"'-(2,4,6-triphenyl-1,3,5-triazine)-4-(N,N-diphenyl-(1,1'-biphenyl)-4-amine (TPTz) is successfully synthesized by the Suzuki-Miyaura coupling reaction of 2,4,6-tris(4-bromophenyl)-1,3,5-triazine with 4-(diphenylamino)phenylboronic acid. TPTz offers as high as 85% fluorescence quantum yield and a strong solvent effect, with fluorescent colors across the visible spectrum in different solvents. Then, an organic-inorganic hybrid fluorescent porous polymer of PCS-TPTz with a surface area of 714 m2 g-1 and pore volume of 0.660 cm3 g-1 is prepared by the Friedel-Crafts reaction of TPTz and octavinylsilsesquioxane; PCS-TPTz showed a high fluorescence quantum yield of 17% with a large Stokes shift of up to 280 nm. The excellent fluorescence properties and insolubility of PCS-TPTz make it to act as a heterophase sensor for tetracycline hydrochloride (TH) with a KSV of 2.39 × 104 M-1. In addition, PCS-TPTz exhibits an excellent photodegradation activity for antibiotic TH without the requirement for additional oxidants or pH adjustments. ESR spectra and free radical trapping experiment indicate that superoxide radical (•O2-) is the active radical for achieving the photodegradation. The simultaneous detection and degradation of TH are achieved by PCS-TPTz.

Abstract
We previously reported that phenyl- and vinyl-silsesquioxanes (SQs), [RSiO1.5]8,10,12 (R = Ph or vinyl) functionalized with three or more conjugated moieties show red-shifted absorption- and emission features suggesting 3-D conjugation via a cage centered LUMOs. Corner missing [PhSiO1.5]7(OSiMe3)3 and edge opened, end capped [PhSiO1.5]8(OSiMe2)2 (double decker, DD) analogs also offer red shifted spectra again indicating 3-D conjugation and a cage centered LUMO. Copolymerization of DD [PhSiO1.5]8(OSiMevinyl)2 with multiple R-Ar-Br gives copolymers with emission red-shifts that change with degree of polymerization (DP), exhibit charge transfer to F4TNCQ and terpolymer averaged red-shifts suggesting through chain conjugation even with two (O-Si-O) end caps possibly via a cage centered LUMO. Surprisingly, ladder (LL) SQ, (vinylMeSiO2)[PhSiO1.5]4(O2SiMevinyl) copolymers offer emission red-shifts even greater for analogous copolymers requiring a different explanation. Here we assess the photophysical behavior of copolymers of a more extreme SQ form: the half cage [PhSiO1.5]4(OSiMe2Vinyl)4, Vy4HC SQs. We again see small red-shifted absorptions coupled with significant red-shifted emissions, even with just a half cage, thus further supporting the existence of pπ-dπ and/or σ*-π* conjugation through Si-O-Si bonds and contrary to most traditional views of Si-O-Si linked polymers. These same copolymers donate an electron to F4TCNQ generating the radical anion, F4TCNQ-. as further proof of conjugation. Column chromatographic separation of short from longer chain oligomers reveals a direct correlation between DP and emission λmax red-shifts as another indication of conjugation. Further, one- and two-photon absorption and emission spectroscopy reveals multiple excited fluorescence-emitting states in a violation of Kasha's rule wherein emission occurs only from the lowest excited state. Traditional modeling studies again find HOMO LUMO energy levels residing only on the aromatic co-monomers rather than through Si-O-Si bonds as recently found in related polymers.

Abstract
A new amphiphilic azo-functionalized polyhedral oligomeric silsesquioxane (POSS) derivative was synthesized by functionalizing octa(3-aminopropyl)silsesquioxane (OAS-POSS) with 4-((4-(dodecyloxy)phenyl)diazenyl)benzoic acid, affording a hydrophilic amino POSS head and hydrophobic dodecyl tail with a diphenyl-azo connector. Prepared amphiphilic azo-functionalized POSS (azo-POSS) exhibited high ability for encapsulation and transferring cationic dyes into the organic phase by vigorously mixing with aqueous solutions of each dye. The photo-controlled encapsulating properties of the synthesized phase transfer reagent was studied using cationic dyes, such as methylene blue (MB), crystal violet (CV) and thymol blue in acidic conditions. Results showed more than 95 % encapsulation of MB. However, no considerable encapsulation was shown in the case of anionic dyes such as eriochrome black T (EBT) and thymol blue in alkaline solutions. By trans/cis isomerization of the azo moiety of the phase transfer reagent by UV irradiation (365 nm), the amount of dye encapsulation was decreased, which could be attributed to the formation of cis isomer that led to the folding of the dodecyl alkyl tail on the POSS moiety, and therefore prevent to lay the 3-aminopropyl moieties of POSS head to the water/DCM interface to adsorb and encapsulate MB molecules.

Novel hybrid composites based on double-decker silsesquioxanes functionalized by methacrylate derivatives and polyvinyl alcohol as potential materials utilized in biomedical applications. BIOMATERIALS ADVANCES 2023; 146:213290. Abstract
The use of diverse biomaterials for regenerative medicine is constantly evolving. Therefore, looking for easy-to-scale-up materials in terms of preparation, less complex composition, and featuring structural and chemical stability seems justified. In this work, we report the preparation of double-decker silsesquioxane-based (DDSQ-based) composites, which, according to our best knowledge, have never been used as biomaterials. A family of methacrylate-substituted DDSQs was obtained starting from the previously reported hydroxyalkyl double-decker silsesquioxanes. In the resulting hybrids, methacrylate groups are attached to each other's lateral silicon atoms of DDSQ in trans positions, providing an excellent geometry for forming thin layers. In contrast to pure organic methacrylates, the covalent bonding of methacrylate derivatives to inorganic silsesquioxane core improves mechanics, cell adhesion, and migration properties. Furthermore, to increase the hydrophilicity of the resulting DDSQ-based hybrids, polyvinyl alcohol (PVA) was added. The entire system forms an easy-to-obtain two-component (DDSQ-PVA) composite, which was subjected without any upgrading additives to biological tests later in the research. The resulting biomaterials fulfill the requirements for potential medical applications. Human fibroblasts growing on prepared hybrid composites are characterized by proper spindle-shaped morphology, proliferation, and activation status similar to control conditions (cells cultured on PVA), as well as increased adhesion and migration abilities. The obtained results suggest that the prepared biomaterials may be used in regenerative medicine in the future.

Abstract
Polyhedral oligomeric silsesquioxane (POSS) is a family of organic/inorganic hybrid materials with specific molecular symmetry, and shows great potential in the structural design of nanomaterials. Here, a "bottom-up" strategy is designed to fabricate 3D interconnected Si/SiOx /C nanorings (NRs) via AlCl3 -assisted aluminothermic reduction using dodecaphenyl cage silsesquioxane (T12 -Ph) as the building block. In this process, AlCl3 acts as both a liquid medium for reduction, and significantly as the catalyst to the cross-linking of phenyl groups in T12 -Ph. The obtained Si/SiOx /C NRs exhibits uniform diameter of ≈165 nm and well distribution of C and Si elements. The unique ring-like structure of Si/SiOx /C NRs makes it have great application potential in the field of lithium ion batteries. Notably, Si/SiOx /C NRs exhibits superior high-rate capacity and good cycle stability when used as anode for LIBs. More excitingly, Si/SiOx /C NRs can deliver a high reversible capacity of 517.9 mA h g-1 at ultra-low temperature of -70 °C, and the capacity retention as high as ≈50% of that at 25 °C. This work not only broadens structural design of carbon-based nanomaterials but also provides more possibilities for the application of POSS.

Abstract
Microporous organosilicas assembled from polysilsesquioxane (POSS) building blocks are promising materials that are yet to be explored in-depth. Here, we investigate the processing and molecular structure of bispropylurea bridged POSS (POSS-urea), synthesised through the acidic condensation of 1,3-bis(3-(triethoxysilyl)propyl)urea (BTPU). Experimentally, we show that POSS-urea has excellent functionality for molecular recognition toward acetonitrile with an adsorption level of 74 mmol/g, which compares favourably to MOFs and zeolites, with applications in volatile organic compounds (VOC). The acetonitrile adsorption capacity was 132-fold higher relative to adsorption capacity for toluene, which shows the pores are highly selective towards acetonitrile adsorption due to their size and arrangement. Theoretically, our tight-binding density functional and molecular dynamics calculations demonstrated that this BTPU based POSS is microporous with an irregular placement of the pores. Structural studies confirm maximal pore sizes of ∼1 nm, with POSS cages possessing an approximate edge length of ∼3.16 Å.

Abstract
The urgent needs for photoactive materials in industry drive fast evolution of synthetic procedures in many branches of chemistry, including the chemistry of silsesquioxanes. Here, we disclose an effective protocol for the synthesis of novel double-decker silsesquioxanes decorated with two (styrylethynylphenyl)terpyridine moieties (DDSQ_Ta-b). The synthesis strategy involves a series of silylative and Sonogashira coupling reactions and is reported for the first time. DDSQ_Ta-b were employed as nanocage ligands to promote self-assembly in the presence of transition metals (TM), i.e., Zn2+, Fe2+, and Eu3+ ions, to form one-dimensional (1D) coordination polymeric nanofibers. Additionally, ultraviolet-promoted and reversible E-Z isomerization of the C═C bond within the ligand structures may be exploited to tune their emission properties. These findings render such complexes promising candidates for applications in materials chemistry. This is the first example of 1D coordination polymers bearing DDSQ-based nodes with TM ions.

Abstract
Multiple studies have explored using cage silsesquioxanes (SQs) as backbone elements in hybrid polymers motivated by their well-defined structures and physical and mechanical properties. As part of this general exploration, we report unexpected photophysical properties of copolymers derived from divinyl double decker (DD) SQs, [vinyl(Me)Si(O0.5 )2 ][PhSiO1.5 ]8 [(O0.5 )2 Si(Me)vinyl] (vinylDDvinyl). These copolymers exhibit strong emission red-shifts relative to model compounds, implying unconventional conjugation, despite vinyl(Me)Si(O-)2 siloxane bridges. In an effort to identify minimum SQ structures that do/do not offer extended conjugation, we explored Heck catalyzed co-polymerization of vinyl-ladder(LL)-vinyl compounds, vinyl(Me/Ph)Si(O0.5 )2 [PhSiO1.5 ]4 (O0.5 )2 Si(Me/Ph)vinyl, with Br-Ar-Br. Most surprising, the resulting oligomers show 30-60 nm emission red-shifts beyond those seen with vinylDDvinyl analogs despite lacking a true cage. Further evidence for unconventional conjugation includes apparent integer charge transfer (ICT) between LL-co-thiophene, bithiophene, and thienothiophene with 10 mol % F4 TCNQ, suggesting potential as p-type doped organic/inorganic semiconductors.
