Abstract
Switchable wettability potential in smart fibers is of paramount importance in various applications. Light-induced controllable changes in surface wettability have a significant role in this area. Herein, smart waterborne homopolymer, functional copolymer with different polarity and flexibility, and multi-functional terpolymer particles containing a time-dependent dual-responsive acrylated spiropyran, as a polymerizable monomer, were successfully synthesized through eco-friendly single-step emulsifier-free emulsion polymerization. Presence of 10 wt% of butyl acrylate and dimethylaminoethyl methacrylate relative to methylmethacrylate as functional comonomers decreased the Tg of the samples almost 20 ℃ and increased their polarity. The optical properties of the particles were investigated, and the UV-vis and fluorescence spectroscopy results showed that not only polarity and flexibility of the polymer chains may have a positive effect on improving the optical properties, but also the simultaneous presence of functional groups has a synergistic effect. The smart polymer particles with flexibility and polarity features exhibited higher absorption and emission compared to other samples. Inspired by these findings, multi-functional smart polymer fibers were prepared using the electrospinning method. The smart multi-functional electrospun fibers containing few-layer Ti3C2 MXenes were synthesized to improve the fibers' properties and change the surface wettability due to the hydrophilic functional groups of MXene. Field-emission scanning electron microscopy images displayed the successful preparation of few-layer MXenes. Smooth and bead-free fibers with bright red fluorescence emission under UV irradiation were shown using fluorescence microscopy. The study on the surface wettability of fibers revealed that UV and visible light irradiation induced reversible time-dependent changes in the wettability of the smart multi-functional MXene/polymer electrospun fibers from hydrophobic to hydrophilic, reaching a water contact angle of 10° from an initial water contact angle of 100° under UV light and also changing to superhydrophilic state with passing time. Upon visible light exposure, the fibers returned to their original state. Furthermore, the fibers demonstrated a high stability over five alternating cycles of UV and visible light irradiation. This study shows that the fabrication of time-dependent smart fibers, utilizing the flexibility and polarity in the presence of MXenes, significantly improves and controls surface wettability changes. The outstanding dynamically photo-switchable wettability of these fibers may offer exciting opportunities in various applications, especially in the separation of oil from water contaminants.

Abstract
MUF-15 (MUF = Massey University Framework) is a metal-organic framework with pores that can be tuned by ligand functionalisation. Crystallites of MUF-15 and derivatives were blended with the organic polymer 6FDA-DAM to produce mixed-matrix membranes (MMMs). At a loading of 30 wt%, membranes with MUF-15-F, MUF-15 with an appended fluoro group, exhibited a CO2 permeability of 1300 Barrer and CO2/CH4 selectivity of 37.1. These values surpass membranes with the parent MUF-15 and exceed the Robeson upper bound.

Abstract
Oil/water separation has become a global concern due to the increasing discharge of multi-component harmful oily wastewater. Super wetting membranes have been shown to be an effective material for oil/water separation. Ultra-high flux stainless-steel meshes (SSM) with superhydrophilicity and underwater superoleophobicity were fabricated by tannic acid (TA) modified ZIF-8 nanoparticles (TZIF-8) and two-dimensional MXene materials for oil/water separation. The TZIF-8 increased the interlayer space of MXene, enhancing the flux permeation (69,093 L m-2h-1) and rejection of the composite membrane (TZIF-8@MXene/SSM). The TZIF-8@MXene/SSM membrane showed an underwater oil contact angle of 154.2°. The membrane maintained underwater superoleophobic after stability and durability tests, including various pH solutions, organic solvents, reusability, etc. In addition, the oil/water separation efficiency of TZIF-8@MXene/SSM membranes was higher than 99% after treatment in harsh conditions and recycling. The outstanding anti-fouling, stability, durability, and recyclability properties of TZIF-8@MXene/SSM membrane highlight the remarkable potential of membranes for complex oil/water separation process.

High-strength nacre-like composite films based on pre-polymerised polydopamine and polyethyleneimine cross-linked MXene layers via multi-bonding interactions. Abstract
Demands for high-strength flexible electrodes have significantly increased across various fields, especially in wearable electronics. Inspired by the strong integrated layered structure of the natural nacre via multi-bonding interactions, we report the fabrication of the strong integrated nacre-like composite films based on pre-polymerised polydopamine and polyethyleneimine cross-linked MXene layers (p-DEM), achieving the synergic effect of hydrogen bonding, covalent bonding and electrostatic interactions. As a result, a high-level tensile strength of ∼302 MPa, 10.8 times higher than that of the plain MXene film, is obtained for the prepared p-DE0.5M composite film. Meanwhile, the composite film also delivers superior energy storage (∼1218F cm-3 at 5 mV s-1) and rate performances (capacitance retention of 81.3% at 1000 mV s-1). To demonstrate the practical application of the composite films, a symmetrical supercapacitor based on p-DE0.5M electrodes is assembled, which shows stable energy storage performances under different deformation states such as bending angles at 0, 60, 90 and 180°, or withstand repeated bending times (1000 cycles). This type of multi-bonding interactions induced strong integrated MXene assembly may promote the wide applications of MXene-based films in flexible electronics, artificial intelligence, and tissue engineering, to name a few.

Abstract
The paper describes a comparative study of swelling processes in free-standing graphene oxide (GO) membranes and GO laminates encapsulated with epoxy glue. For free-standing graphene oxide membranes, a huge variation in d-spacing in the range of 8-12 Å depending on the ambient humidity and from 12 to >30 Å depending on the electrolyte type and its concentration was revealed using direct in situ and in operando XRD studies. Limited swelling at various humidity levels as well as in electrolyte solution with low constriction/expansion of epoxy-encapsulated GO is counterposed to that of free-standing graphene oxides. The swelling suppression was explained by both physical constriction and the intercalation of amines into GO laminates, which was proved by local EDX studies. This results in ion diffusivity variation for over 2 orders of magnitude in free-standing and constrained graphene oxide membranes and provides factual evidence for tunable sieving of ions with confined graphene oxides.
