Exceptional Two-Photon Absorption in Alkynylruthenium-Gold Nanoparticle Hybrids

Effect of tunable π bridge on two-photon absorption property and intramolecular charge transfer process of polycyclic aromatic hydrocarbons

The influences of the conjugation effect on the charge transfer and nonlinear optical (NLO) properties of polycyclic aromatic hydrocarbons (PAHs) are comprehensively investigated at the microscopic molecular level. We found that the conjugation effect of π bridge is negatively correlated with molecular planarity, excitation energy, two-photon absorption (TPA) cross-section, and the second hyperpolarizability. For the first time, the charge transfer matrix (CTM) is applied to the molecular two-photon transition process. Combining the charge difference density (CDD) diagram with CTM heat map to visually quantitative investigate the characteristics of excited states, the charge transfer path and transfer amount between atoms. During the two-photon transition of all molecules, the electronic excited state is locally excited. Compared with the first process, the range of intramolecular charge transfer in the second process of the two-photon transition is expanded. Comprehensive results prove that the π bridge with large conjugation effect distorts the molecular structure, which is not conducive to the intramolecular charge transfer. Therefore, the molecule DBP-1 with a carbon-carbon double bond as the π bridge has the largest transition dipole moments, TPA cross-section, and second static hyperpolarizability. Our research method can provide effective guidance for the design and optimization of nonlinear organic conjugated molecular materials.

2-{3,5-Bis-[5-(3,4-didodecyloxyphenyl)thien-2-yl]phenyl}-5-(3,4-didodecyloxyphenyl)thiophene

Star-shaped compounds are widely recognized as emerging materials for optical and electrical applications and as scaffolds of discotic liquid crystal. While the C3-symmetrical tri(phenylthienyl)benzene is the core for several electroopotical materials, no liquid crystal with this scaffold has yet been reported. Acid-catalyzed cyclocondensation of bromoacetylthiophene gives a C3-symmetrical star, threefold Suzuki coupling results in extension of the conjugated system. With 3,4-didodecylocyphenyl boronic acid, a star with a large rigid conjugated system and flexible aliphatic periphery is obtained. Differentials scanning calorimetry and polarized optical microscopy reveal an enantiotropic mesophase from 66 °C to 106 °C.

NIR light-triggered nanomaterials-based prodrug activation towards cancer therapy

Nanomaterials-based prodrug activation systems have been widely explored in cancer therapy, aiming at overcoming limited dosage formulation, systemic toxicity, and insufficient pharmacokinetic performance of parent drugs. For better delivery control, various stimuli systems, especially nanomaterials-based ones, have come to the forefront. Among them, near-infrared (NIR) light takes advantage of on-demand/site-specific regulation and non-invasiveness. In this review, we will address the developments of nanomaterials-based prodrug over the last decade, the activation mechanisms, and bioapplications under NIR light triggering. The advantages and limitations of NIR-triggered prodrug activation strategies and the perspectives of the next-generation prodrug nanomedicine will also be summarized. Transition metal complex/gold nanoparticle hybrid materials

Gold nanoparticles (AuNPs) are of considerable interest for diverse applications in areas such as medicine, catalysis, and sensing. AuNPs are generally surface-stabilized by organic matrices and coatings, and while the resultant organic compound (OC)/AuNP hybrids have been explored extensively, they are not suitable for certain applications (e.g. those necessitating reversible redox behaviour and/or long excited-state lifetimes), and they often suffer from low photo- and/or thermal stability. Transition metal complex (TMC)/AuNP hybrids have recently come to the fore as they circumvent some of the aforementioned shortcomings with OC/AuNP hybrids. This review summarizes progress thus far in the nascent field of TMC/AuNP hybrids. The structure and composition of extant TMC/AuNP hybrids are briefly reviewed and the range of TMCs employed in the shell of the hybrids are summarized, the one-phase, two-phase, and post-nanoparticle-synthesis synthetic methods to TMC/AuNP hybrids are discussed and contrasted, highlighting the advantages of variants of the last-mentioned procedure, and the utility of the various characterization techniques is discussed, emphasizing the need to employ multiple techniques in concert. Applications of TMC/AuNP hybrids in luminescence, electrochemical, and electro-optical sensing are described and critiqued, and their uses and potential in imaging, photo-dynamic therapy, nonlinear optics, and catalysis are assessed.

Regulation of optical properties for fluorescent triphenylamine-silver hybrid based on SPR effect

In this study, a two photon absorbing (TPA) material consisting silver nanoparticles and triphenylamine-thiol derivative (TBS) has been prepared through interfacial coordination effect according to soft-hard-acid-base principle. The interfacial structure and morphology of the hybrid are researched in detail. Linear and nonlinear optical properties of the hybrid are studied. Upon interfacial coordination, the hybrid shows red-shifted UV-Vis absorption, causing from enhanced electronic drawing strength due to existence of Ag atom. The results also indicate that the surface Plasmon resonance (SPR) effect of Ag nanoparticles (~6 nm) brings about enhancement in single photon fluorescence emission and two photon absorption. Compared with free TBS, Ag-TBS hybrids show higher TPA cross-section (δ), which is 8784 GM for TBS and up to 103876 GM for Ag-TBS hybrid, showing ~12 fold increase. Due to excellent TPA property, the hybrids have good application in the field of optical power limiting and its limiting threshold is 0.49 J/cm^-2. This type of interfacial coordination induced hybrid provides a promising strategy to regulate linear optical properties and optimize nonlinear performance.

Sub-100 nanometer silver doped gold–cysteine supramolecular assemblies with enhanced nonlinear optical properties

The ability of gold(i) thiolates to self-assemble into supramolecular architectures opens the route for a new class of nanomaterials with a unique structure–optical property relationship.
