Synthesis and X-ray Crystal Structure of Diimidosulfinate Transition Metal Complexes

N,N'-Diaryl-Sulfurdiimides are Strongly Redox Tuned

The synthesis and extensive characterization of nine aryl sulfur diimides (SDIs, Ar-NSN-Ar) are presented with a robust computational and experimental investigation of the fundamental properties of these important members of the thiazyl family of compounds, with particular attention paid to their highly tunable electrochemical behaviour. This is the first work to undertake a systematic comparison of the electrochemical profiles of a coherent series of SDIs to demonstrate and quantify the response of their reduction potentials to substituent electron-donating and -withdrawing properties. This effect is found to be not only exceptionally strong, but also correlates very closely with computed orbital energies. Electron paramagnetic resonance spectroscopy is used to determine the nature, localization, and qualitative lifetimes of the radical anions of SDIs. This work also addresses significant misconceptions about physical properties of SDIs. Experimental data and modern computational methods are employed to provide a resolute answer to the long-standing contention of the solution-state conformations of SDIs, and to correct historical mistakes in the assignment of infrared spectroscopic data. High-quality crystal structures of all SDIs in this work showcase the utility of the recently introduced structural refinement software NoSpherA2, enabling full anisotropic refinement of H-atoms with accurate C-H bond lengths.

Synthesis and evaluation of antibacterial activity of transition metal-oleoyl amide complexes

Recent studies show that some metal ions, injure microbial cells in various ways due to membrane breakdown, protein malfunction, and oxidative stress. Metal complexes are suited for creating novel antibacterial medications due to their distinct mechanisms of action and the variety of three-dimensional geometries they can acquire. In this Perspective, the present study focused on new antibacterial strategies based on metal oleoyl amide complexes. Thus, oleoyl amides ligand (fatty hydroxamic acid and fatty hydrazide hydrate) with the transition metal ions named Ag (I), Co (II), Cu (II), Ni (II) and Sn (II) complexes were successfully synthesized in this study. The metals- oleoyl amide were characterized using elemental analysis, and fourier transforms infrared (FTIR) spectroscopy. The antibacterial effect of metals- oleoyl amide complexes was investigated for Gram-negative bacteria (Escherichia coli) and Gram-positive bacteria (Staphylococcus aureus) by analysing minimum inhibitory concentration (MIC), minimal bactericidal concentration (MBC), and scanning electron microscopy (SEM). The results showed that metal-oleoyl amide complexes have high antibacterial activity at low concentrations. This study inferred that metal oleoyl amide complexes could be utilised as a promising therapeutic antibacterial agent.

Chlorogermylenes and -stannylenes stabilized by diimidosulfinate ligands: synthesis, structures, and reactivity

The reaction of the lithium salt of N,N'-di-tert-butyldiimidosulfinate ([PhS(N^tBu)₂]Li) having a phenyl group on the sulphur atom with ECl₂·(dioxane) (E = Ge, Sn) afforded the corresponding chlorogermylene [PhS(N^tBu)₂]GeCl 1 and -stannylene [PhS(N^tBu)₂]SnCl 2, respectively. In contrast, treatment of the N,N'-bis(trimethylsilyl)diimidosulfinate ion ([PhS(NSiMe₃)₂]^-) with ECl₂·(dioxane) resulted in the unexpected formations of six-membered 1,3-bis(chlorogermylene) [PhS(NSiMe₃)₂(η¹-η¹-GeCl)₂[μ-NSPh(NHSiMe₃)] 7 and -stannylene [PhS(NSiMe₃)₂(η¹-η¹-SnCl)₂[μ-NSPh(NHSiMe₃)] 8. The structures of these chlorometallylene derivatives were fully characterized on the basis of their NMR spectroscopic data and X-ray diffraction. In the crystalline states of 1 and 2, the diimidosulfinate ligands chelate to the metal centre to form slightly hinged four-membered EN₂S rings. On the other hand, X-ray analyses of 7 and 8 revealed that the central six-membered E₂N₃S rings adopt a distorted boat-conformation, and one diimidosulfinate ligand coordinates to the metal centre in a bridging monodentate μ-η¹-η¹-fashion. As the reactivity of 1 and 2, the oxidation of 1 with elemental chalcogen (S₈ or Se) afforded the corresponding tetra-coordinated germanium compounds [PhS(N^tBu)₂]Ge([double bond, length as m-dash]Ch)Cl 3 (Ch[double bond, length as m-dash]S) and 4 (Ch[double bond, length as m-dash]Se). In sharp contrast, the reactions of 2 with elemental chalcogen resulted in the formation of four-membered Sn₂Ch₂ ring compounds, 1,3,2,4-dichalcogenadistannetanes {(PhS(N^tBu)₂)SnCl(μ-Ch)}₂5 (Ch[double bond, length as m-dash]S) and 6 (Ch[double bond, length as m-dash]Se).

Activation of SO2 by [Zn(Cp*)2] and [(Cp*)ZnI–ZnI(Cp*)]

The reactions of SO₂ with [Zn(Cp*)₂] and [(Cp*)Zn^I–Zn^I(Cp*)] proceeded with insertion of SO₂ into the Zn–C bonds, and oxidation of the Zn^I–Zn^I bond in the reaction with [(Cp*)Zn^I–Zn^I(Cp*)].
