Abstract
Ligands featuring a 1,1'-bis(donor)ferrocene motif can adopt various binding modes. Among them, the κ3 binding mode, which involves interaction between the iron center of the ferrocene unit and the transition metal is the most unique. Although various examples highlight the interaction itself, the exact quantification of its strength remains uncertain. In our computational study, we systematically investigate the nature of this unique heterometallic bond, demonstrating that the electron density at the transition metal primarily governs the heterobimetallic interaction. On the other hand, the contribution of the ipso-carbon atoms of the cyclopentadiene ring is not negligible. We demonstrated that isodesmic reactions provide the most quantifiable data regarding the interaction. If the transition metal center is complexed with good electron-donor ligands or its positive charge is compensated by the negative charge of the ligands, the interaction with the electron-rich iron center recedes into the background. Finally, we highlighted the importance of the accurate computational description of these systems.

Abstract
The chemistry of bidentate ligands with a dppf-like motif, where phosphorus is fully or partially replaced by other pnictogens as donor sites, is summarized and discussed in this comprehensive review, while covering the literature from 1966 to 2024, related to more than 165 original references and discussing more than 75 independent chemical entities (1-41). Besides addressing synthetic, structural, and electrochemical aspects of such compounds, their donor properties and metal coordination behavior is discussed, along with catalytic applications. Based on their electronic and steric situations, trends in the performance of such compounds, either as ligands for catalysis or on their own merits for non-catalytic purposes, have been elucidated. Related topics that could not be covered in this article have been acknowledged by referring to the literature for completeness.

Abstract
Readily available phosphinoferrocene guanidines coordinate Pd(ii) as P,N-chelating or κ3P,N,Fe-bound ligands. As the latter, they give rise to the first donor-asymmetric complexes featuring Fe-Pd dative bonds, which were studied using direct (spectroscopic and electrochemical) methods and theoretical (DFT) approaches.

Abstract
Diphosphine chelate ligands are essential in many catalytic processes with both the electronic structure and bite angle having a dramatic influence on the coordination behavior and catalytic performance. The synthesis of a new class of diferrocenylmercury-supported diphosphine chelate ligands was accomplished by the reaction of (ortho-diphenylphosphino)ferrocenyl sulfinate (2) with t-BuLi, followed by treatment with mercury(ii) chloride. Two diastereomers, 4a (pSpR-, meso-isomer) and 4b (pSpS-isomer), differ in the orientation of the ferrocene moiety relative to the central Ph2PC5H3-Hg-C5H3PPh2 bridging entity. They were isolated independently and fully characterized in solution and in the solid state by single crystal X-ray diffraction analysis. Key characteristics of these ligands are their exceptionally wide and flexible bite angles and the unique stereochemical environment that is achieved upon coordination to transition metals. Complexation to Pd(ii)Cl2 gives rise to unusual square-planar trans-chelate complexes 5a (meso) and 5b (pSpS). In competition reactions, 4a and 4b show similar reactivity toward Pd(ii)Cl2. The molecular structures of 5a and 5b exhibit short PdHg contacts, possibly indicating secondary metallophilic interactions as further evidenced by bond-critical points between Pd and Hg that were identified by AIM analyses.

Abstract
The bis(2-pyridylthio)methanidopalladium(II) pincer complex (1), containing a Pd-C bond, was obtained from the reaction of bis(2-pyridylthio)methane (H2L) with palladium(II) acetate in toluene under reflux. When palladium(II) trifluoroacetate was used, H2L reacted to generate the tetrakis(pyridine-2-thiol)palladium(II) complex (2). Complex 2 was converted to a heterobimetallic palladium(II)-iron(II) paddlewheel complex (3) upon treatment with iron(II) triflate in the presence of a base in acetonitrile at room temperature.

Abstract
Ligands with 1,1'-bis(donor)ferrocene motif are capable of a wide range of binding modes, including the trans chelation mode in which there is a Fe-M interaction (κ3 -D,Fe,D), in the form of a dative Fe→TM bond (TM=transition metal). This Minireview will explore the nature of this Fe-TM interaction thorough select examples as well as how to characterize a Fe→TM dative bond using physical, computational, and spectroscopic techniques.
