Abstract
Ferrocene-substituted carbenes have emerged as attractive, redox-active ligands. However, among the compounds studied to date, ferrocenylated 1,2,4-triazol-5-ylidenes, which are closely related to the archetypal imidazol-2-ylidenes, are still unknown. Here, we demonstrate that the triazolium salt [CHN(Me)NCHN(Fc)]I (2; Fc = ferrocenyl), obtained by alkylation of 4-ferrocenyl-4H-1,2,4-triazole (1) with MeI, reacts selectively with metal alkoxide/hydroxide precursors [(cod)Rh(OMe)]2 and [(IPr)Au(OH)] (cod = cycloocta-1,5-diene, IPr = 1,3-bis(2,6-diisopropylphenyl)imidazol-2-ylidene) to produce the ferrocene-substituted 1,2,4-triazol-5-ylidene complexes [(cod)RhI{CN(Me)NCHN(Fc)}] and [(IPr)Au{CN(Me)NCHN(Fc)}]I in good yields. The complexes were characterised by NMR and IR spectroscopy, mass spectrometry, cyclic voltammetry, and single-crystal X-ray diffraction analysis. Density function theory (DFT) calculations were used to rationalise the electrochemical behaviour of the carbene complexes and to elucidate the bonding situation in these compounds. An analysis using intrinsic bond orbitals (IBOs) revealed that the 1,2,4-triazol-5-ylidene ligand exerted a strong trans influence and showed a synergistic stabilisation by the negative inductive and positive π-donor effects of the nitrogen atoms adjacent to the carbene carbon atom; these effects were enhanced by conjugation with the CHN bond at the exterior, similar to that in imidazol-2-ylidenes.

Abstract
The oxidative cleavage of alkenes to the corresponding aldehydes using new amphiphilic carbon quantum dots (A-CQDs) as a pseudohomogeneous carbocatalyst is achieved for the first time through green and sustainable chemical processes. In this work, we successfully design a recyclable pseudohomogeneous catalyst based on A-CQDs, which is decorated with 1-aminopropyl-3-methyl-imidazolium chloride and stearic acid. The functionalization is conducted to introduce a hydrophilic/hydrophobic functionality on the surface of the catalyst to achieve high catalyst availability in polar and nonpolar media with the green goal of eliminating organic (co)solvents and additives. This amphiphilic carbocatalyst provides high mass transferability to the biphasic system, which is beneficial to promoting the oxidative cracking of a variety of olefins into corresponding aldehydes with a substrate/A-CQD ratio of 150. Around 87% of the substrates are converted to the related aldehydes using the carbocatalyst in the presence of H2O2, in pure water, without using a phase-transfer catalyst or any additives and organic solvents, which is comparable with the current metal-based cleavage systems. Surprisingly, A-CQDs exhibit high catalytic activity for the scission of electron-deficient C═C bond of coumarin derivatives, accompanied by the cleavage of C-O bonds to produce the corresponding salicylaldehyde derivatives without overoxidation to acid. As a brief conclusion, A-CQDs exhibit high conversion efficiency without significant loss of activity even after six catalytic cycles. The conversion of alkenes into aldehydes is fast and high-throughput without overoxidation to acids and is accompanied by excellent solubility and stability in various solvents. Moreover, the product and the catalyst are recoverable from the reaction medium by simple extraction. So, this pseudohomogeneous carbocatalyst promises new horizons in imminent "catalytic age". All in all, this paper provides a significant and novel advancement in carbocatalyst chemistry.

Abstract
A series of cationic Ru(ii)(η6-p-cymene) complexes with thioether-functionalised N-heterocyclic carbene ligands have been prepared and fully characterized. Steric and electronic influence of the R thioether substituent on the coordination of the sulfur atom was investigated. The molecular structure of three of them has been determined by means of X-ray diffractrometry and confirmed the bidentate (κ2-C,S) coordination mode of the ligand. Interestingly, only a single diastereomer, as an enantiomeric couple, was observed in the solid state for complexes 1c, 1i and 1j. DFT calculations established a low energy inversion barrier between the two diastereomers through a sulfur pyramidal inversion pathway with R donating group while a dissociative/associative mechanism is more likely with R substituents that contain electron withdrawing group, thus suggesting that the only species observed by the 1H-NMR correspond to an average resonance position of a fluxional mixtures of isomers. All these complexes were found to catalyse the oxydant-free double dehydrogenation of primary amine into nitrile. Ru complex bearing NHC-functionalised S-tBu group was further investigated in a wide range of amines and was found more selective for alkyl amine substrates than for benzylamine derivatives. Finally, preliminary results of the biological effects on various human cancer cells of four selected Ru complexes are reported.

Abstract
Dialkylation of the 1,3-bis(1,2,4-triazol-1-yl)benzene with ethyl bromide results in the formation of [L-H2]Br2 which, upon salt metathesis with NH4PF6, readily yields the bis(triazolium) salt [L-H2](PF6)2 with non-coordinating counterions. [L-H2](PF6)2 and Ag2O react in a 1 : 1 ratio to yield a binuclear AgI-tetracarbene complex of the composition [(L)2Ag2](PF6)2 which undergoes a facile transmetalation reaction with [Cu(SMe2)Br] to deliver the corresponding CuI-NHC complex [(L)2Cu2](PF6)2. In contrast, the [L-H2]Br2 reacts with [Ir(Cp*)Cl2]2 to generate a doubly C-H activated IrIII-NHC complex 5. Similarly, the triazolinylidene donor supported diorthometalated RuII-complex 6 is also obtained. Complexes 5 and 6 represent the first examples of a stable diorthometalated binuclear IrIII/RuII-complex supported by 1,2,4-triazolin-5-ylidene donors. The synthesized IrIII-NHC complex 5 is found to be more effective than its RuII-analogue (6) for the reduction of a range of alkenes/alkynes via the transfer hydrogenation strategy. Conversely, RuII-complex 6 is identified as an efficient catalyst (0.01 mol% loading) for the β-alkylation of a wide range of secondary alcohols using primary alcohols as alkylating partners via a borrowing hydrogen strategy.

Abstract
Presented herein is a set of bimetallic and trimetallic "coordination booster-catalyst" assemblies in which the coordination complexes [RuII (terpy)2 ] and [OsII (terpy)2 ] acted as boosters for enhancement of the catalytic activity of [RuII (NHC)(para-cymene)]-based catalytic site. The boosters accelerated the oxidative loss of para-cymene from the catalytic site to generate the active catalyst during the oxidation of alkenes and alkynes into corresponding aldehydes, ketones and diketones. It was found that the boosting efficiency of the [OsII (terpy)2 ] units was considerably higher than its congener [RuII (terpy)2 ] unit in these assemblies. Mechanistic studies were conducted to understand this unique improvement.

Abstract
1,4-Diaryl- and 1-aryl-4-alkyl-substituted 1,2,4-triazolium salts are convenient air-stable precursors to carbenes used both as organocatalysts or as ligands for transition metal complexes. Traditionally, they are prepared via a multistep synthetic pathway with the low-yielding formation of the triazolium ring occurring in the last step. We have developed an alternative two-step synthesis involving the conversion of a primary amine or aniline derivative to the corresponding 4-substituted triazole followed by a copper-catalyzed arylation with diaryliodonium salts. This transition metal-catalyzed arylation can be carried out under mild conditions in acetonitrile and is tolerant toward both water and oxygen. Additionally, the high functional group tolerance of the protocol described here gives easy access to triazolium salts containing heterocyclic substituents or sulfides.

Abstract
In an effort to develop efficient Ru(II)-NHC-based catalyst considering their stereoelectronic effect for hydride-transfer reaction, we found that the ancillary NHC ligand can play a significant role in its catalytic performance. This effect is demonstrated by comparing the activity of two different types of orthometalated precatalysts of general formula [( p-cymene)(NHC)RuII(X)] (NHC = an imidazolylidene-based ImNHC, compound 2a-c, or a mesoionic triazolylidene-based tzNHC, compound 4) in transfer hydrogenation of carbonyl substrates. The electron-rich precatalyst, 2c, containing p-OMe-substituted NHC ligand performed significantly better than both unsubstituted complex 2a and p-CF3 substituted electron-poor complex 2b in ketone reduction. Whereas bulky mesoionic triazolylidene ligand containing complex 4 was found to be superior catalyst for aldehyde reduction and the precatalyst 2a is more suitable for the selective transfer hydrogenation of a wide range of aromatic aldimines to amines. To the best of our knowledge, this is the first systematic study on the effect of stereoelectronic tuning of ancillary orthometalated NHC ligand in Ru(II)-catalyzed transfer hydrogenations of various types of unsaturated compounds with broad substrate scope.

Abstract
Treatment of the 2,5-bis(2'-pyridyl)pyrrolato (PDP-) anion with {Ru(COD)Cl2}n in THF readily yielded [Ru(PDP)(COD)Cl] (1) in almost quantitative yield. Anion metathesis of 1 in organic solvent by NO3- and OTf- (OTf- = triflato) gave [Ru(PDP)(COD)(NO3)] (2) and [Ru(PDP)(COD)(OTf)] (3), and in aqueous solution by BF4- and PF6- afforded aqueous complexes [Ru(PDP)(COD)(H2O)](BF4) (4+·BF4-) and [Ru(PDP)(COD)(H2O)](PF6) (4+·PF6-), respectively. Treatment of 1 with PhICl2 in CH2Cl2 afforded 5 with halogenated pyrrole. These complexes exhibit similar structure, including one Ru(ii) atom, one 2,5-bis(2'-pyridyl)pyrrole and one monodentate anion or aqua ligand. Each Ru(ii) tightly binds to three adjacent coplanar sites of PDP- ligand to form a meridional configuration. Complex 1 with NaIO4 as the oxidant in EtOAc-CH3CN-H2O (ratio = 3 : 1 : 2) proved to be highly effective in the catalytic oxidation of olefins to carbonyl products.
