Abstract
The cycloplatinated(IV) complexes trans-[Pt(p-MeC6H4)(C∧N)(OAc)2(H2O)] (C∧N = benzo[h]quinolate, bhq, 2a, and 2-phenylpyridinate, ppy, 2b) were prepared by reacting the corresponding [Pt(p-MeC6H4)(C∧N)(SMe2)] precursors with PhI(OAc)2 through an oxidative addition (OA) reaction. Thermolysis of 2a at 65 °C generates cis-[Pt(κ1N-10-(p-MeC6H4)-bhq)(OAc)2(H2O)], 3a, which is the product of a Csp2Ar-Csp2bhq reductive elimination (RE). The observed coupling reaction is significantly different from the previously reported analogous thermolysis of trans-[PtMe(C∧N)(OAc)2(H2O)] (C∧N = bhq, 2c, and ppy, 2d) that selectively releases Me-OAc (C-O RE). The density functional theory (DFT) calculations and experimental observations reveal that the Csp2Ar-Csp2bhq coupling reaction occurs through the dissociation of a coordinated water ligand. This in turn is followed by the concomitant bond forming and bond breaking process via a three-center ring transition state, in contrast to the Csp3Me-OAc coupling, which had taken place by an outer sphere SN2 type RE reaction in methyl complexes.

Abstract
The complex [PtMe(Obpy)(OAc)2(H2O)], 2a, Obpy = 2,2'-bipyridine N-oxide, is prepared through the reaction of [PtMe(Obpy)(SMe2)], 1a, by 1 equiv of PhI(OAc)2 via an oxidative addition (OA) reaction. Pt(IV) complex 2a attends the process of C-O bond reductive elimination (RE) reaction to form methyl acetate and corresponding Pt(II) complex [Pt(Obpy)(OAc)(H2O)], 3a. The kinetic of OA and RE reactions are investigated by means of different spectroscopies. The obtained results show that the reaction rates of OA step of 1a are faster than its analogous complex [PtMe(ppy)(SMe2)], 1b, ppy = 2-phenylpyridine. The density functional theory (DFT) calculations signify that the OA reaction initiated by a nucleophilic attack of the platinum(II) central atom of 1b on the iodine(III) atom while it had commenced by a nucleophilic substitution reaction of coordinated SMe2 in 1a with a carbonyl oxygen atom of PhI(OAc)2. Our calculation revealed that the key step for 1a is an acetate transfer from the I(III) to Pt(II) through a formation of square pyramidal iodonium complex. This can be attributed to the more electron-withdrawing character of Obpy ligand than to ppy which reduces the nucleophilicity of Pt atom in 1a. Furthermore, 2a with electron-withdrawing Obpy ligand prone to C-O bond formation faster than complex [PtMe(ppy)(OAc)2(H2O)], 2b, with an electron-rich ppy ligand which conforms to the anticipation that REs occur faster on electron-poor metal centers.

Abstract
Reaction of the Pt(II) complexes [PtMe2(pbt)], 1a, (pbt = 2-(2-pyridyl)benzothiazole) and [PtMe(C^N)(PPh2Me)] [C^N = deprotonated 2-phenylpyridine (ppy), 1b, or deprotonated benzo[h]quinoline (bhq), 1c] with benzyl bromide, PhCH2Br, is studied. The reaction of 1a with PhCH2Br gave the Pt(IV) product complex [PtBr(CH2Ph)Me2(pbt)]. The major trans isomer is formed in a trans oxidative addition (2a), while the minor cis products (2a' and 2a″) resulted from an isomerization process. A solution of Pt(II) complex 1a in the presence of benzyl bromide in toluene at 70 °C after 7 days gradually gave the dibromo Pt(IV) complex [Pt(Br)2Me2(pbt)], 4a, as determined by NMR spectroscopy and single-crystal XRD. The reaction of complexes 1b and 1c with PhCH2Br gave the Pt(IV) complexes [PtMeBr(CH2Ph)(C^N)(PPh2Me)] (C^N = ppy; 2b; C^N = bhq, 2c), in which the phosphine and benzyl ligands are trans. Multinuclear NMR spectroscopy ruled out other isomers. Attempts to grow crystals of the cycloplatinated(IV) complex 2b yielded a previously reported Pt(II) complex [PtBr(ppy)(PPh2Me)], 3b, presumably from reductive elimination of ethylbenzene. UV-vis spectroscopy was used to study the kinetics of reaction of Pt(II) complexes 1a-1c with benzyl bromide. The data are consistent with a second-order SN2 mechanism and the first order in both the Pt complex and PhCH2Br. The rate of reaction decreases along the series 1a ≫ 1c > 1b. Density functional theory calculations were carried out to support experimental findings and understand the formation of isomers.

Abstract
The reaction between [NnBu4][(C6F5)2PtII(μ-PPh2)2PtIV(C^N)(I)2] (C^N = κ2-N,C-benzoquinolinate, 1) and (i) bidentate S^S, N^S and O^O anionic ligands or (ii) monodentate S- N- or O-based anionic ligands was studied in order to investigate the factors that may guarantee the stability of Pt(ii),Pt(iv) mixed-valence dinuclear phosphanido complexes. While reactions of 1 with S^S or N^S ligands afforded stable Pt(ii),Pt(iv) species of general formula [(C6F5)2PtII(μ-PPh2)2PtIV(C^N)(L^S)]x- [(L^S)(x-1) = 2-mercaptopyrimidinate (pymS-), 2-mercaptopyridinate (pyS-), dimethyldithiocarbamate (Me2NCS2-), ethyl xanthogenate (EtOCS2-) and 1,2-benzenedithiolate (PhS22-)], the reaction of 1 with the O^O ligand sodium acetylacetonate gave several products, and no pure Pt(ii),Pt(iv) complex could be isolated. The reaction of monodentate ligands such as PhS-, OH- or N3- with 1 led to a stable Pt(ii),Pt(iv) complex only in the case of N3-. The reaction with OH- afforded the Pt(ii),Pt(ii) complex [(C6F5)2PtII(μ-PPh2)(κ2-O,P-μ-O-PPh2)PtII(C^N)]- (8) deriving from reductive coupling of a diphenylphosphanide and an O-donor ligand coordinated to the Pt(iv) centre, while the reaction with PhS- produced the unstable Pt(ii),Pt(iv) complex [NnBu4][(C6F5)2PtII(μ-PPh2)2PtIV(C^N)(PhS)2] (11) that evolved in solution to the Pt(ii),Pt(ii) species [NnBu4][(C6F5)2PtII(μ-PPh2)2PtII(C^N)] (9) by elimination of diphenyldisulfide. Thus, the stability of mixed valence Pt(ii),Pt(iv) phosphanide complexes is affected by several concurrent factors, including the chelating effect of the ligands and the type of ligating atoms.

Abstract
The reaction of complex [Pt(Me)(DMSO)(pbz)], 1, (pbz = 2-(2-pyridyl)benzimidazolate) with [PtMe(Cl)(DMSO)2], B, followed by addition of bis(diphenylphosphino)acetylene (dppac), gave the novel tetranuclear platinum complex [Pt4Me4(μ-dppac)2(pbz)2Cl2], 2, bearing both the pbz and dppac ligands. In this structure, the pbz ligands are both chelating and bridging to stabilize the tetraplatinum framework. The tetranuclear Pt(II) complex was fully characterized by NMR spectroscopy, X-ray crystallography, and mass spectrometry, and its electronic structure was investigated and supported by DFT calculations.

Abstract
Nickel complexes have been widely employed as catalysts in C-C and C-heteroatom bond formation reactions. While Ni(0), Ni(i), and Ni(ii) intermediates are most relevant in these transformations, recently Ni(iii) and Ni(iv) species have also been proposed to play a role in catalysis. Reported herein is the synthesis, detailed characterization, and reactivity of a series of Ni(ii) and Ni(iii) metallacycle complexes stabilized by tetradentate pyridinophane ligands with various N-substituents. Interestingly, while the oxidation of the Ni(ii) complexes with various other oxidants led to exclusive C-C bond formation in very good yields, the use of O2 or H2O2 as oxidants led to formation of appreciable amounts of C-O bond formation products, especially for the Ni(ii) complex supported by an asymmetric pyridinophane ligand containing one tosyl N-substituent. Moreover, cryo-ESI-MS studies support the formation of several high-valent Ni species as key intermediates in this uncommon Ni-mediated oxygenase-type chemistry.

Abstract
Described is a systematic comparison of factors impacting the relative rates and selectivities of C(sp3 )-C and C(sp3 )-O bond-forming reactions at high-valent Ni as a function of oxidation state. Two Ni complexes are compared: a cationic octahedral NiIV complex ligated by tris(pyrazolyl)borate and a cationic octahedral NiIII complex ligated by tris(pyrazolyl)methane. Key features of reactivity/selectivity are revealed: 1) C(sp3 )-C(sp2 ) bond-forming reductive elimination occurs from both centers, but the NiIII complex reacts up to 300-fold faster than the NiIV , depending on the reaction conditions. The relative reactivity is proposed to derive from ligand dissociation kinetics, which vary as a function of oxidation state and the presence/absence of visible light. 2) Upon the addition of acetate (AcO- ), the NiIV complex exclusively undergoes C(sp3 )-OAc bond formation, while the NiIII analogue forms the C(sp3 )-C(sp2 ) coupled product selectively. This difference is rationalized based on the electrophilicity of the respective M-C(sp3 ) bonds, and thus their relative reactivity towards outer-sphere SN 2-type bond-forming reactions.

Abstract
The [(iPr3 P)Ni]5 H6 cluster (1) and H2 C=CHOtBu react at room temperature to form the new pentanuclear NiH carbide [(iPr3 P)Ni]5 H4 (C)(CO) (3), along with an equivalent of isobutylene. This transformation requires the activation of multiple unreactive bonds, including C-H, C-C, and C(sp3 )-O bond cleavage. Analysis of the reaction mixture by 1 H NMR revealed the production of two additional paramagnetic species, assigned as [(iPr3 P)Ni]4 H4 (C-CH3 )NiOtBu (4 a) and [(iPr3 P)Ni]4 H4 (C-CH2 OtBu)NiOtBu (5 a), which arise from C(sp2 )-O bond cleavage and CH bond rearrangements. The reaction of 1 with H2 C=CHOSiMe2 CH2 Ph produced the isolable 4 a analogue [(iPr3 P)4 Ni5 ]H4 (CCH3 )(OSiMe2 CH2 Ph) (4 c). An isolable analogue of 5 a was obtained from the reaction of 1 with H2 C=CHOAd (Ad=1-admantyl), which produced [(iPr3 P)4 Ni5 ]H4 (CCH2 OAd)(OAd) (5 d). The utilization of both cluster faces and vertices for bonding substrate fragments in these transformations demonstrates the remarkable flexibility of the robust Ni5 H4 core in the cooperative activation of multiple C-O, C-C and C-H bonds.
