Abstract
Developing simple and benign protocols for synthesizing alkenylboronates is crucial as they are synthetically valuable compounds in various organic transformations. In this work, we report a straightforward ligand-free protocol for synthesizing alkenylboronates via atom-economical hydroboration of alkynes with HBpin catalyzed by a manganese salt. The reaction shows a high level of chemo and regioselectivity for the terminal alkynes and exclusively produces E-selective alkenylboronates. The hydroboration scope is vast, with the resilience of a range of synthetically beneficial functionalities, such as halides, ether, alkenyl, silyl and thiophenyl groups. This reaction proceeds through the involvement of a metal-hydride intermediate. The developed alkenylboronate can be smoothly converted to useful C-C, C-N and C-I bond-forming reactions.

Abstract
Tuning electronic characteristics of metal-ligand bonds based on reaction pathways to achieve efficient catalytic processes has been widely studied and proven to be feasible in homogeneous catalysis, but it is scarcely investigated in heterogeneous catalysis. Herein, we demonstrate the regulation of the electronic configuration of Ir-O bonds in an Ir single-atom catalyst according to the borane activation mechanism. Ir-O bonds in Ir1/Ni(OH)x are found to be more electron-poor than those in Ir1/NiOx. Despite the mild solvent-free conditions and ambient temperature, Ir1/Ni(OH)x exhibits outstanding performance for the hydroboration of alkenes, furnishing the desired alkylboronic esters with a turnover frequency value of ≤3060 h-1 and 99% anti-Markovnikov selectivity, which is significantly better than that of Ir1/NiOx (42 h-1). It is further proven that the more electron-poor Ir-O bonds as active centers are more oxidative and so benefit the activation of the H-B bond in the reductive pinacolborane.

Abstract
Three new IPr-Ag- and -Au-SNS amido and thiolate complexes were synthesized and compared to their previously reported Cu analogues as carbonyl hydroboration catalysts (IPr = bis(2,6-diisopropylphenyl)imidazol-2-ylidene). Although these complexes showed no catalytic activity, treatment of the IPr-Ag-SNS amido complex with pinacolborane released the N-borylated ligand, SMeNBpinSMe, (L1-Bpin). This finding led us to reinvestigate the IPr-Cu-SNS amido precatalyst, revealing that immediate loss of L1-Bpin converts our catalyst system to [CuH(IPr)]2.

Abstract
In this contribution, we illustrate uranium complexes bearing a pendant borate (i.e. 1 and 2) or a pendant borane (i.e. 3 and 4) moiety via reaction of the highly strained uranacycle I with various 3-coordinate boranes. Complexes 3 and 4 represent the first examples of uranium complexes with a pendant borane Lewis acid. Moreover, complex 3 was capable of activation of CO, delivering a new CO activation mode, and an abnormal CO 1,2-insertion pathway into a U-N bond. The importance of the pendant borane moiety was confirmed by the controlled experiments.

Abstract
One of the key steps in many metal complex-catalyzed hydroboration reactions is B-H bond activation, which results in metal hydride formation. Anionic ligands that include multiple lone pairs of electrons, in cooperation with a metal center, have notable potential in redox-neutral B-H bond activation through metal-ligand cooperation. Herein, using an easily prepared NpyridineNimineNpyrrolide ligand (L2)-, a series of divalent NiIIX(NNN) complexes were synthesized, with X = bromide (2), phenoxide (3), thiophenoxide (4), 2,5-dimethylpyrrolide (5), diphenylphosphide (6), and phenyl (7). The complexes were characterized using 1H and 13C NMR spectroscopy, mass spectrometry, and X-ray crystallography and employed as precatalysts for nitrile dihydroboration. Superior activity of the phenoxy derivative (3) [vs thiophenoxy (4) or phenyl (7)] suggests that B-H bond activation occurs at the Ni-X (vs ligand Ni-Npyrrolide) bond. Furthermore, stoichiometric treatment of 2-7 with a nitrile showed no reaction, whereas stoichiometric reactions of 2-7 with pinacolborane (HBpin) gave the same Ni-H complex for 2, 3, and 5. Considering that only 2, 3, and 5 successfully catalyzed nitrile dihydroboration, we suggest that the catalytic cycle involves a conventional inner sphere pathway initiated by substrate insertion into Ni-H.

Abstract
The role of S-donors in ligand-assisted catalysis using first-row metals has not been broadly investigated. Herein is described a combined experimental and computational mechanistic study of the dihydroboration of nitriles with pinacolborane (HBpin) catalyzed by the Mn(i) complex, Mn(κ3-SMeNS)(CO)3, that features thioether, imine, and thiolate donors. Mechanistic studies revealed that catalysis requires the presence of UV light to enter and remain in the catalytic cycle and evidence is presented for loss of two CO ligands. Stoichiometric reactions showed that HBpin reduces the imine N[double bond, length as m-dash]C of the ligand backbone in the absence of nitrile, forming an inactive off-cycle by-product. DFT calculations showed that the bifunctional thiolate donor, coordinative flexibility of the SMeNS ligand, and access to an open-shell intermediate are all crucuial to accessing low-energy intermediates during catalysis.

Abstract
A diamido-bridged dicobalt complex supported by a diamidonaphthalene ligand, Cp*2Co2(μ-1,8-C10H8(NH)2) (1), was synthesized, and the reactivity relevant to redox transformations of the Co2N2 core was investigated. It was found that the Co(II)-Co(II) bond allows for protonation by [HPPh3][BF4] resulting in a bridging hydride, [1H]+, with pKa ∼ 7.6 in CH2Cl2. The diamidonaphthalene ligand can stabilize the binuclear system in the Co(II)Co(III) mixed-valent state (1+), which is capable of binding CO to afford [1-CO]+. Surprisingly, the mixed-valent complex also activates H2O to furnish a Co(III)Co(III) hydroxy complex [1-OH]+ accompanied by release of H2. The hydroxy ligand in [1-OH]+ is exchangeable, as demonstrated by 18O-labeling experiments on [1-OH]+ with H218O that led to the heavier isotopolog [1-18OH]+.

Abstract
Organoboron reagents represent a unique class of compounds because of their utility in modern synthetic organic chemistry, often affording unprecedented reactivity. The transformation of the carbon-boron bond into a carbon-X (X = C, N, and O) bond in a stereocontrolled fashion has become invaluable in medicinal chemistry, agrochemistry, and natural products chemistry as well as materials science. Over the past decade, first-row d-block transition metals have become increasingly widely used as catalysts for the formation of a carbon-boron bond, a transformation traditionally catalyzed by expensive precious metals. This recent focus on alternative transition metals has enabled growth in fundamental methods in organoboron chemistry. This review surveys the current state-of-the-art in the use of first-row d-block element-based catalysts for the formation of carbon-boron bonds.

Abstract
A MnI‐catalyzed hydroboration of terminal alkenes and a 1,2‐diboration of terminal alkynes with pinacolborane (HBPin) is described. For alkenes, anti‐Markovnikov hydroboration takes place; for alkynes the reaction proceeds with excellent trans‐1,2‐selectivity. The most active pre‐catalyst is bench‐stable alkyl bisphosphine MnI complex fac‐[Mn(dippe)(CO)3(CH2CH2CH3)]. The catalytic process is initiated by migratory insertion of a CO ligand into the Mn–alkyl bond to yield an acyl intermediate, which undergoes B−H bond cleavage of HBPin (for alkenes) and rapid C−H bond cleavage (for alkynes), forming the active MnI boryl and acetylide catalysts [Mn(dippe)(CO)2(BPin)] and [Mn(dippe)(CO)2(C≡CR)], respectively. A broad variety of aromatic and aliphatic alkenes and alkynes was efficiently and selectively borylated. Mechanistic insights are provided based on experimental data and DFT calculations revealing that an acceptorless reaction is operating involving dihydrogen release.

Abstract
A MnI-catalyzed hydroboration of terminal alkenes and a 1,2-diboration of terminal alkynes with pinacolborane (HBPin) is described. For alkenes, anti-Markovnikov hydroboration takes place; for alkynes the reaction proceeds with excellent trans-1,2-selectivity. The most active pre-catalyst is bench-stable alkyl bisphosphine MnI complex fac-[Mn(dippe)(CO)3(CH2CH2CH3)]. The catalytic process is initiated by migratory insertion of a CO ligand into the Mn-alkyl bond to yield an acyl intermediate, which undergoes B-H bond cleavage of HBPin (for alkenes) and rapid C-H bond cleavage (for alkynes), forming the active MnI boryl and acetylide catalysts [Mn(dippe)(CO)2(BPin)] and [Mn(dippe)(CO)2(C≡CR)], respectively. A broad variety of aromatic and aliphatic alkenes and alkynes was efficiently and selectively borylated. Mechanistic insights are provided based on experimental data and DFT calculations revealing that an acceptorless reaction is operating involving dihydrogen release.

Abstract
A nontrigonal phosphorus triamide (1, P{N[o-NMe-C6H4]2}) is shown to catalyze C–H borylation of electron-rich heteroarenes with pinacolborane (HBpin) in the presence of a mild chloroalkane reagent. C–H borylation proceeds for a range of electron-rich heterocycles including pyrroles, indoles, and thiophenes of varied substitution. Mechanistic studies implicate an initial P–N cooperative activation of HBpin by 1 to give P-hydrido diazaphospholene 2, which is diverted by Atherton–Todd oxidation with chloroalkane to generate P-chloro diazaphospholene 3. DFT calculations suggest subsequent oxidation of pinacolborane by 3 generates chloropinacolborane (ClBpin) as a transient electrophilic borylating species, consistent with observed substituent effects and regiochemical outcomes. These results illustrate the targeted diversion of established reaction pathways in organophosphorus catalysis to enable a new mode of main group-catalyzed C–H borylation. A nontrigonal phosphorus triamide (1, P{N[o-NMe-C6H4]2}) is shown to catalyze C–H borylation of electron-rich heteroarenes with pinacolborane (HBpin) in the presence of a mild chloroalkane reagent.![]()

Abstract
Catalytic hydrogenation or transfer hydrogenation of quinolines was thought to be a direct strategy to access dihydroquinolines. However, the challenge is to control the chemoselectivity and regioselectivity. Here we report an efficient partial transfer hydrogenation system operated by a cobalt-amido cooperative catalyst, which converts quinolines to 1,2-dihydroquinolines by the reaction with H3N·BH3 at room temperature. This methodology enables the large scale synthesis of many 1,2-dihydroquinolines with a broad range of functional groups. Mechanistic studies demonstrate that the reduction of quinoline is controlled precisely by cobalt-amido cooperation to operate dihydrogen transfer from H3N·BH3 to the N=C bond of the substrates.

Abstract
Base metal catalysis offers an alternative to reactions, which were once dominated by precious metals in hydrofunctionalization reactions. This review article details the development of some base metals (Fe, Co, and Ni) in the hydroboration and hydrosilylation reactions concomitant with a brief overview of recent advances in the field. Applications of both commercially available metal salts and well-defined metal complexes in catalysis and opportunities to further advance the field is discussed as well.

Abstract
Metal-ligand cooperation, in which metal and ligand participate in bond cleavage and formation, is gathering great attention in recent years. In contrast to the classical bond cleavage by active metal centers with spectator ligands, metal-ligand cooperation has enabled unprecedented reactivities. Especially, metal-ligand cooperative H-H bond cleavage has been extensively studied and applied to various catalysts. On the other hand, there are substantial efforts to expand the scope of the bond to be cleaved other than the H-H bond. This review summarizes the recent progress in the metal-ligand cooperative cleavages of Si-H, B-H, and C-H bonds and their catalytic applications.

Abstract
Much of the recent work on catalytic hydroboration of alkenes has focused on simple alkenes and styrene derivatives with few examples of reactions of 1,3-dienes, which have been reported to undergo mostly 1,4-additions to give allylic boronates. We find that reduced cobalt catalysts generated from 1,n- bis-diphenylphosphinoalkane complexes [Ph2P-(CH2) n-PPh2]CoX2; n = 1-5) or from (2-oxazolinyl)phenyldiarylphosphine complexes [(G-PHOX)CoX2] (G = 4-substituent on oxazoline ring) effect selective 1,2-, 1,4-, or 4,3-additions of pinacolborane (HBPin) to a variety of 1,3-dienes depending on the ligands chosen. Conditions have been found to optimize the 1,2-additions. The reactive catalysts can be generated from the cobalt(II)-complexes using trimethylaluminum, methyl aluminoxane, or activated zinc in the presence of sodium tetrakis[(3,5-trifluoromethyl)phenyl]borate (NaBARF). The complex, (dppp)CoCl2, gives the best results (ratio of 1,2- to 1,4-addition >95:5) for a variety of linear terminal 1,3-dienes and 2-substituted 1,3-dienes. The [(PHOX)CoX2] (X = Cl, Br) complexes give mostly 1,4-addition with linear unsubstituted 1,3-dienes, but, surprisingly, selective 1,2-additions with 2-substituted or 2,3-disubstituted 1,3-dienes. Isolated and fully characterized (X-ray crystallography) Co(I)-complexes, (dppp)3Co2Cl2 and [( S,S)-BDPP]3Co2Cl2, do not catalyze the reaction unless activated by a Lewis acid or NaBARF, suggesting a key role for a cationic Co(I) species in the catalytic cycle. Regio- and enantioselective 1,2-hydroborations of 2-substituted 1,3-dienes are best accomplished using a catalyst prepared via activation of a chiral phosphinooxazoline-cobalt(II) complex with zinc and NaBARF. A number of common functional groups, among them, -OBn, -OTBS, -OTs, N-phthalimido- groups, are tolerated, and er's > 95:5 are obtained for several dienes including 1-alkenylcycloalk-1-enes. This operationally simple reaction expands the realm of asymmetric hydroboration to provide direct access to a number of nearly enantiopure homoallylic boronates, which are not readily accessible by current methods. The resulting boronates have been converted into the corresponding alcohols, potassium trifluororoborate salts, N-BOC amines, and aryl derivatives by C-BPin to C-aryl transformation.
