Pd-Catalyzed Cross-Coupling of Highly Sterically Congested Enol Carbamates with Grignard Reagents via C-O Bond Activation

A Removable Acyl Group Promoted the Intramolecular Dehydro-Diels-Alder Reaction of Styrene-Ynes: Highly Chemoselective Synthesis of Aryldihydronaphthalene Derivatives

A removable acyl group promoted the intramolecular didehydro-Diels-Alder reaction of styrene-ynes under mild reaction conditions is proposed. The reaction is free of metals and catalysts, is easy to perform, and exhibits good functional group tolerance, providing a highly chemoselective approach for obtaining the valuable aryldihydronaphthalene derivatives.

Ligand-Enabled C-H Olefination and Lactonization of Benzoic Acids and Phenylacetic Acids via Palladium Catalyst

A novel ligand propan-2-one O-(p-tolylcarbamoyl) oxime (L7) has been developed to promote C(sp²)-H olefination of benzoic acids and phenylacetic acids via a palladium catalyst. With the subsequent lactonization of the olefinated products through 1,4-addition, highly monoselective cyclic lactone products of benzofuranones and benzopyrones were obtained in moderate to excellent yields. The DFT calculation demonstrated that the novel ligand propan-2-one O-(p-tolylcarbamoyl) oxime (L7) could improve the C-H activation reaction to give cyclic lactone products elegantly.

Reductive Alkylation of Alkenyl Acetates with Alkyl Bromides by Nickel Catalysis

Catalytic alkylation of stable alkenyl C-O electrophiles is synthetically appealing, but studies to date have typically focused on the reactions with alkyl Grignard reagents. We report herein a cross-electrophile reaction of alkenyl acetates with alkyl bromides. This work has enabled a new method for the synthesis of aliphatic alkenes from alkenyl acetates to be established that can be used to add more structural complexity and molecular diversity with enhanced functionality tolerance. The method allows for a gram-scale reaction and modification of biologically active molecules, and it affords access to useful building blocks. Preliminary mechanistic studies reveal that the Ni^I species plays an essential role for the success of the coupling of these two reactivity-mismatched electrophiles.

Transition-Metal-Catalyzed Cross-Coupling Reactions of Grignard Reagents

Transition-metal-catalyzed cross-coupling of organo­halides, ethers, sulfides, amines, and alcohols (and derivatives thereof) with Grignard reagents, known as the Kumada–Tamao–Corriu reaction, can be used to prepare important intermediates in the synthesis of numerous­ biologically active compounds. The most frequently used transition metals are nickel, palladium, and iron, but there are several examples for cross-coupling reactions catalyzed by copper, cobalt, manganese, chromium, etc. salts and complexes. The aim of this review is to summarize the most important transition-metal-catalyzed cross-coupling reactions realized in the period 2000 to 2020.

C–O Bond Activation as a Strategy in Palladium-Catalyzed Cross-Coupling

The activation of strong C–O bonds in cross-coupling catalysis can open up new oxygenate-based feedstocks and building blocks for complex-molecule synthesis. Although Ni catalysis has been the major focus for cross-coupling of carboxylate-based electrophiles, we recently demonstrated that palladium catalyzes not only difficult C–O oxidative additions but also Suzuki-type cross-couplings of alkenyl carboxylates under mild conditions. We propose that, depending on the reaction conditions, either a typical Pd(0)/(II) mechanism or a redox-neutral Pd(II)-only mechanism can operate. In the latter pathway, C–C bond formation occurs through carbopalladation of the alkene, and C–O cleavage by β-carboxyl elimination.
