Abstract
The first synthesis of unnatural β2,3,3 -amino acids with a spirocyclic backbone by one-pot protocol has been presented. This reaction features wide functional group tolerance and feasibility of post-functionalization of natural products and biologically important molecules. Novel dipeptide and tripeptide structures were assembled using this newly developed β2,3,3 -amino acid in high efficiency. The combination of C-H activation and C-C cleavage for the synthesis of β-amino acids would trigger more promising synthetic routes for this compound.

Abstract
A rhodium(III)-catalyzed redox-neutral spiroannulation approach to access the spiro[benzo[b][1,4]oxazine-benzo[c]chromene skeleton is described in this contribution. A variety of spiro[5.5]-heterocyclic scaffolds were obtained in moderate to excellent yields under mild conditions. Key features of this protocol are good substrate scope, silver-free conditions, low catalyst loadings, easy handling under air and 100% atom economy. Furthermore, scale-up reactions and late-stage derivatizations highlight the potential synthetic utility of this methodology.

Abstract
Rhodium(III)-catalyzed [3 + 2]-spiroannulation of 2-aryl-1,4-benzoxazines with 4-hydroxy-2-alkynoates has been developed for the synthesis of highly rigid spirolactones in good yields with high regioselectivity. The reaction proceeds through a cascade of C-H activation followed by C-H annulation and lactonization. In this approach, two C-C and C-O bonds are formed in a single step. This is the first report on the spiroannulation of 2,3-dihydro-1,4-benzoxazines with 4-hydroxy-2-alkynoates.

Abstract
The rhodium(III)-catalyzed reaction of aniline derivatives that contain a pyrimidine-directing group with vinylsilanes results in the formation of C3-substituted indoline derivatives. The reaction path and formation of the indoline product with density functional theory calculations were analyzed. This study reveals that the whole catalysis can be characterized in the following stages: (I) C-H activation via concerted metalation deprotonation, (II) 2,1-vinylsilane insertion, (III) deprotonation of the NH amide proton, (IV) the oxidation of Ag+, and (V) reductive elimination. These steps are kinetically and thermodynamically feasible for experimental realization under mild conditions, and the insertion step with a barrier of 22.0 kcal/mol should not only be the critical step of regioselectivity but also the rate-determining step during the whole catalysis. Computations reveal that the Ag+ oxidation can accelerate the reductive elimination step after the formation of natural intermediate, thus highlighting the role of Ag+ as a catalytic promoter for the oxidatively induced reactivity of the Rh catalyst in C3-substituted indoline synthesis.

Abstract
We report an unprecedented atom-economic one-pot Cp*Rh(III)-catalyzed regioselective [3+2]-spiroannulation reaction between dibenz(ox)azepines and ynones, allowing the synthesis of biologically relevant novel spirocyclic dibenz(ox)azepines under operationally simple and mild reaction conditions. The reaction proceeds without any silver additive or external oxidant implementing a redox-neutral pathway. A broad substrate scope with diverse functional group tolerance permitted the regioselective synthesis of a wide spectrum of indene-containing spirocyclic dibenz(ox)azepines in good to excellent yields. Also, we showcased detailed mechanistic studies to justify the formation of spirocycles. In addition, the synthetic utility of this process was also demonstrated by the modular synthesis of various steroid conjugates.

Abstract
We report herein unprecedented cascade reactions of O-propargyl-N-tosyl-amino phenols with 10 mol% FeCl3 in DCE at room temperature for 0.67-3 h to form spiro-indenyl 1,4-benzoxazines with 38-89 % yield. Replacing the substrates' oxygen atom by a N-tosylimine group followed by treatment with the same catalyst and solvent at 80 °C produced 2-(2,2-diarylvinyl)quinoxalines in 12-20 h with up to 62 % yield. Mechanistic understanding provided an insight into the transformations. The use of simple substrates and an environmentally benign low-cost catalyst, broad substrate scope and tolerance of diverse functional groups makes the methodology inherently attractive.

Abstract
Vinylarenes represent an important class of core skeleton embedded in natural products, organic materials, and pharmaceutical molecules. Therefore, numerous efforts have been devoted to developing efficient methods for their preparation. Among them, transition-metal-catalyzed oxidative coupling of arenes and alkenes has proved to be a powerful method due to its high atom and step economy. Although a wide range of oxidative alkenylations of arenes have been developed, the alkenes employed in most cases are still limited to electron-deficient alkenes. Reported herein is a Rh(III)-catalyzed C-H cross-coupling of benzoxazinones and simple unactivated styrenes to furnish a variety of vinylarene scaffolds. This established protocol is characterized by wide functional group compatibility, high yields, and excellent regio- and chemo-selectivity. Mechanistic studies and gram-scale experiments on this high-value conversion are disclosed. Moreover, the potential utility of this method was highlighted by a series of further transformations.

Abstract
Alkynyl chlorides were found to be extraordinarily novel electrophiles, which could afford a single regioisomer of the [3+2] annulation adducts with cyclic ketimines by rhodium catalysis. The alkenyl chloride moiety in the products provided a valuable functional handle for further diverse transformations. Therefore, this research provided not only a synthetic protocol for accessing unsymmetrically substituted indenyl amines but also a highly divergent solution for decorating the substituting group by postmanipulation of the chloride.

Abstract
A convenient synthesis of pyrrolo[2,1-a]isoquinolinium salts from 1-pyrrolines and alkynes through rhodium-catalyzed C-H functionalization/N-annulation tandem reaction is described. The protocol features a good substrate tolerance, mild reaction conditions, and high yields of target products. Abstract
Rh(III)-Catalyzed 1 : 2 coupling of 3-aryl-2H-benzo[b][1,4]oxazines with α-diazo-β-ketoesters has been realized for the mild synthesis of spiropyrans. The reaction proceeded via twofold C-H activation followed by unusual [3+3] and [4+2] annulation with decent functional group tolerance. Moreover, a pyranoid-skeleton intermediate was isolated as a key intermediate as a result of monoalkylation and enol oxygen annulation, which offers direct mechanistic insight.

Abstract
The synthesis of multisubstituted 1-aminoindanes through catalyst-controlled diastereodivergent [3 + 2] annulation of aromatic imines with alkenes is of great interest and importance. An understanding of the exact reaction mechanism, especially for the origin of diastereoselectivity, is an essential aspect for further development of such reactions. In this study, density functional theory calculations have been carried out on the rare-earth-catalyzed diastereodivergent [3 + 2] annulation of benzaldimine with styrene. The results show that the reaction mainly involves generation of active species, olefin insertion, cyclization, and protonation steps. The noncovalent interactions, such as C-H···π and metal···π interactions, play an important role in stabilizing the key transition state or intermediate. Both steric and electronic factors account for the diastereoselectivity. The preferred cis-diastereoselectivity could be ascribed to more efficient orbital interaction, while the crowded space will induce the formation of a C-H···π interaction between the NtBu group and benzene ring in a trans-diastereoselectivity manner, thus stabilizing the trans-selective transition state. Therefore, the stereospecific product could be obtained by fine-tuning the ligand/metal combination of the catalysts.
