Stereoselective Synthesis of Vinylcyclopropa[b]indolines via a Rh-Migration Strategy

Copper-catalyzed multicomponent assembly of γ-butenolides via the interception of carbonyl ylides with iminium ions

A Cu(I)-catalyzed three-component reaction of cyclopropenes, enamines and aldehydes has been realized. This reaction proceeds via the interception of carbonyl oxonium ylide intermediates with α, β-unsaturated iminium ions that are in situ generated from enamines and aldehydes under the catalysis of Cu(MeCN)₄PF₆, leading to the desired γ-butenolide derivatives in good yields and with moderate diastereoselectivities. Access to these derivatives with tethered ketone and alkynal groups will expand the structural diversity of multi-substituted butenolides.

Cyclopropenes for the Stepwise Synthesis of 1,2,4,5-Tetraarylbenzenes via 1,4-Cyclohexadienes

This paper describes a synthetic approach to the synthesis of 1,2,4,5-tetraarylbenzene derivatives from cyclopropenes. The Lewis acid-mediated dimerization of cyclopropenes gives tricyclo[3.1.0.0^2,4]hexane derivatives. The subsequent thermal ring-opening reaction under solvent-free conditions gives 1,4-cyclohexadienes bearing quaternary carbons. The novel Br₂-mediated oxidative rearrangement of 1,4-cyclohexadienes takes place to give 1,2,4,5-tetraarylbenzene derivatives in high to excellent yields.

Dearomative Cyclopropanation of Naphthols via Cyclopropene Ring-Opening

The dearomatization of 2-naphthols represents a simple method for the construction of complex 3D structures from simple planar starting materials. We describe a cyclopropanation of 2-naphthols that proceeds via cyclopropene ring-opening using rhodium and acid catalysis under mild conditions. The vinyl cyclopropane molecules were formed with high chemoselectivity and scalability, which could be further functionalized at different sites. Both computational and experimental evidence were used to elucidate the reaction mechanism.

Conjugated ynones in catalytic enantioselective reactions

Conjugated ynones are easily accessible feedstock and the existence of an alkyne bond endows ynones with different attractive reactivities, thus making them unique substrates for catalytic asymmetric reactions. Their compatibility under organocatalytic, metal-catalyzed as well as cooperative catalytic conditions has resulted in numerous enantioselective transformations. Importantly, conjugated ynones can act as nucleophiles or electrophiles, and serve as easily accessed synthons for different cyclization pathways. This review summarizes the recent literature examples of the catalytic reactions of conjugated ynones and related compounds such as alkyne conjugated α-ketoesters, and classifies these reaction types alongside mechanistic insights whenever possible. We aim to trigger more intensive research in the future to render the asymmetric transformation of ynones as a common and reliable tool for asymmetric synthesis.
