Abstract
Nickel-catalyzed aqueous cyanation of allylic alcohols is herein described. This catalytic protocol provided environmentally friendly and operationally simple access to a variety of allylic nitriles in good yields. For chiral allylic alcohols, the reaction gave chiral allylic nitriles with a high degree of chiral inversion. The accelerated release of cyanide in H2O was crucial for the success of this reaction.

Abstract
Alkene radical ions constitute an integral and unique class of reactive intermediates for the synthesis of valuable compounds because they have both unpaired spins and charge. However, relatively few synthetic applications of alkene radical anions have emerged due to a dearth of generally applicable and mild radical anion generation approaches. Precise control over the chemo- and stereoselectivity in alkene radical anion-mediated processes represents another long-standing challenge due to their high reactivity. To overcome these issues, here, we develop a new redox-neutral strategy that seamlessly merges photoredox and copper catalysis to enable the controlled generation of alkene radical anions and their orthogonal enantioselective cyanofunctionalization via distonic-like species. This new strategy enables highly regio-, chemo-, and enantioselective hydrocyanation, deuterocyanation, and cyanocarboxylation of alkenes without stoichiometric reductants or oxidants under visible light irradiation. This protocol provides a new blueprint for the exploration of the transformation potential of alkene radical anions.

Abstract
Ni-catalyzed enantioselective hydrofunctionalizations of conjugated dienes are particularly demanding reactions to devise because they require not only addressing the inherent challenges associated with the development of an enantioselective transformation but also overcoming all other aspects of selective catalysis (chemoselectivity, regioselectivity, diastereoselectivity, etc.). However, the value-added nature of the chiral allylic and homoallylic derivatives obtained by these methods, the lack of efficient alternatives, and the use of an earth-abundant first-row transition metal have led to renewed interest over the past decade. In this Perspective, we give an overview of the developments in this field, from the original findings (often dating back to the last century) to the most recent contributions. Emphasis is placed on the nature of the hydrofunctionalization agent (C(sp), C(sp2), C(sp3), N, P, or O).

Abstract
An efficient cobalt-catalyzed geometrical isomerization of 1,3-dienes is described. In the combination of a CoCl2 precatalyst with an amido-diphosphine-oxazoline ligand, the geometrical isomerization of E/Z mixtures of 1,3-dienes proceed in a stereoconvergent manner, affording (E) isomers in high stereoselectivity. This facile transformation features a broad substrate scope with good functional group tolerance and could be scaled up to the gram scale smoothly with a catalyst loading of 1 mol %.

Abstract
AbstractAcyclic quaternary carbon stereocenters occur frequently in natural products, bioactive molecules, and pharmaceutical compounds. Construction of a carbon stereogenic center attached to four different carbons with defined spatial arrangement is a daunting challenge in asymmetric catalysis. Significant efforts have been directed towards the stereoselective construction of such acyclic quaternary carbon stereocenters. In particular, catalytic generation of acyclic quaternary carbon stereocenters through functionalization of unsaturated hydrocarbons is an extremely attractive approach because unsaturated hydrocarbons are easily accessible both in industry and in organic synthesis. In this short review, we summarize the recent advances achieved in this research area, with the aim to inspire future development.1 Introduction2 Acyclic Quaternary Carbon Stereocenters through Functionalization of Allenes3 Acyclic Quaternary Carbon Stereocenters through Functionalization of Dienes4 Acyclic Quaternary Carbon Stereocenters through Functionalization of Mono-alkenes5 Acyclic Quaternary Carbon Stereocenters through Functionalization of Alkynes6 Summary and Outlook
