Abstract
An efficient and convenient method for the synthesis of C3-hydroxytrifluoroalkylated indoles and pyrroles was described in this paper. The copper-catalyst-free site-specific cross-dehydrogenative coupling reaction of various indoles and pyrroles with hexafluoroisopropanol proceeded smoothly by using MnO2 as oxidant to furnish a hydroxytrifluoroalkylated electron-rich N-heterocycle in satisfactory to excellent yields. Various groups, including the synthetically useful functional groups Cl, NO2, and CN, were tolerated well. The mechanistic study revealed that a radical pathway accommodated the formation of a hexafluoroacetone intermediate.

Abstract
Although copper-catalyzed amination of activated C(sp3)-H bonds through radical relay has been developed, amination of unactivated C(sp3)-H bonds is rare. Herein, copper-catalyzed intramolecular amination of remote unactivated C(sp3)-H bonds is reported. The reaction is conducted in a mild and effective manner with moderate to good yields, demonstrating broad tolerance toward various functional groups and exhibiting complete regio- and chemoselectivities. This innovation supplies novel synthetic pathways for the construction of saturated nitrogenated heterocycles.

Abstract
Radical C-H functionalization represents a useful means of streamlining synthetic routes by avoiding substrate preactivation and allowing access to target molecules in fewer steps. The first-row transition metals (Ti, V, Cr, Mn, Fe, Co, Ni, and Cu) are Earth-abundant and can be employed to regulate radical C-H functionalization. The use of such metals is desirable because of the diverse interaction modes between first-row transition metal complexes and radical species including radical addition to the metal center, radical addition to the ligand of metal complexes, radical substitution of the metal complexes, single-electron transfer between radicals and metal complexes, hydrogen atom transfer between radicals and metal complexes, and noncovalent interaction between the radicals and metal complexes. Such interactions could improve the reactivity, diversity, and selectivity of radical transformations to allow for more challenging radical C-H functionalization reactions. This review examines the achievements in this promising area over the past decade, with a focus on the state-of-the-art while also discussing existing limitations and the enormous potential of high-value radical C-H functionalization regulated by these metals. The aim is to provide the reader with a detailed account of the strategies and mechanisms associated with such functionalization.

Abstract
Transition-metal-catalyzed hydroarylation of unactivated alkenes via metal hydride hydrogen atom transfer (MHAT) is an attractive approach for the construction of C(sp2)-C(sp3) bonds. However, this kind of reaction focuses mainly on using reductive hydrosilane as a hydrogen donor. Here, a novel photoinduced Co/Ni-cocatalyzed Markovnikov hydroarylation of unactivated alkenes with aryl bromides using protons as a hydrogen source has been developed. This reaction represents the first example of photoinduced MHAT via a reductive route intercepting an organometallic coreactant. The key to this transformation was that the CoIII-H species was generated from the protonation of the CoI intermediate, and the formed CoIII-C(sp3) intermediate interacted with the organometallic coreactant rather than reacting with nucleophiles, a method which has been well developed in photoinduced Co-catalyzed MHAT reactions. This reaction is characterized by its high catalytic efficiency, construction of quaternary carbons, simple reaction conditions and expansion of the reactive mode of Co-catalyzed MHAT reactions via a reductive route. Moreover, this catalytic system could also be applied to complex substrates derived from glycosides.

Abstract
An efficient 2,2,6,6-tetramethylpiperidinooxy (TEMPO)-mediated hydroxyfluoroalkylation of arylamines with polyfluorinated alcohols via a radical-triggered C(sp2)-H/C(sp3)-H dehydrogenative cross-coupling process was developed. This transformation features simple operation, high atom economy, broad substrate compatibility, and excellent regioselectivity, leading to a series of hydroxyfluoroalkylated arylamine derivatives. Importantly, these synthetic products were further used to evaluate the antitumor activity in cancer cell lines by Cell Counting Kit-8 assay and the outcomes indicated that some compounds show a potent antiproliferative effect.

Abstract
The synthesis of organic compounds efficiently via fewer steps but in higher yields is desirable as this reduces energy and reagent use, waste production, and thus environmental impact as well as cost. The reactivity of C-H bonds ortho to fluorine substituents in (poly)fluoroarenes with metal centers is enhanced relative to meta and para positions. Thus, direct C-H functionalization of (poly)fluoroarenes without prefunctionalization is becoming a significant area of research in organic chemistry. Novel and selective methodologies to functionalize (poly)fluorinated arenes by taking advantage of the reactivity of C-H bonds ortho to C-F bonds are continuously being developed. This review summarizes the reasons for the enhanced reactivity and the consequent developments in the synthesis of valuable (poly)fluoroarene-containing organic compounds.

Abstract
Polyfluoroaromatic compounds play crucial roles in medicinal and material science. However, the synthesis of alkylated polyfluoroarenes has been relatively underdeveloped. In this study, we devised a novel decarboxylative coupling reaction between aliphatic N-hydroxyphthalimide esters and polyfluorostyrene, leveraging the photochemical activity of electron donor-acceptor (EDA) complexes. This method offers simple reaction conditions, a broad substrate scope, and excellent functional group tolerance. Furthermore, we have demonstrated the practicality of this protocol through late-stage polyfluoroaryl modification of biologically active molecules using readily available carboxylic acids as starting materials, thus providing an important supplement to the current toolbox for accessing alkylated polyfluoroaryl motifs.

Abstract
Chemodivergent synthesis of indeno[1,2-b]indoles and isoindolo[2,1-a]indoles from the same starting materials involving radical cross-dehydrogenative couplings have been developed. Mn(OAc)3·2H2O selectively promoted an intramolecular radical C-H/C-H dehydrogenative coupling reaction to provide indeno[1,2-b]indoles, while an intramolecular radical C-H/N-H dehydrogenative coupling reaction could proceed via electrochemistry to deliver isoindolo[2,1-a]indoles. Plausible mechanisms of the chemodivergent reactions were proposed.

Abstract
A novel dehydrogenative dicarbofunctionalization of vinyl arenes with polyfluoroarenes and unactivated alkanes enabled by copper catalysis has been accomplished under mild conditions. This transformation provides a regioselective route to highly functionalized polyfluoroaryl compounds that occur as structural scaffolds in a variety of pharmaceuticals and materials. Preliminary mechanistic studies indicate that the carbon-based radical and copper intermediate are involved in the reaction, and the reaction pathway is dominated by the bond dissociation energy (BDE) of C(sp3)-H bonds.

Abstract
An innovative 1,5-HAT cascade strategy has been advanced for the nickel-catalyzed distal arylation via cross-electrophile coupling. Through specific migration, the remote C(sp3)-H bond is regioselectively activated, and Ar-I as the available electrophile is used for the construction of the C(sp3)-C(sp2) bond. This method also has broad applicability for benzylic and aliphatic N-fluorocarboxamides with yields up to 80%. Furthermore, a series of control experiments demonstrated that this reaction is probably initiated by a radical process.

Abstract
Polyfluoroarene moieties are of interest in medicinal chemistry, agrochemicals, and material sciences. Herein, we present the first polyfluoroarylation of unactivated alkyl halides via a halogen atom transfer process. This method converts primary, secondary, and tertiary alkyl halides into the respective polyfluoroaryl compounds in good yields in the presence of amide, carbamate, ester, aromatic, and sulfonamide moieties, including derivatives of complex bioactive molecules. Mechanistic work revealed that this transformation proceeds through an alkyl radical generated after the halogen atom transfer.

A broad range of heteroarenes were well tolerated and reacted with various N-fluorosulfonamides to give the corresponding heteroarylated amides in good yields. Notably, all types (1°, 2°, and 3°) of δ-C(sp3)-H bonds in the N-fluorosulfonamides could be regioselectively activated through the 1,5-HAT process. This protocol provides a practical strategy for the functionalization of heteroarenes and amides via forging a C(sp3)-C(sp2) bond.

Abstract
Construction of C(sp2)−C(sp3) bonds via regioselective coupling of C(sp2)−H/C(sp3)−H bonds is challenging due to the low reactivity and regioselectivity of C−H bonds. Here, a novel photoinduced Ru/photocatalyst-cocatalyzed regioselective cross-dehydrogenative coupling...

Abstract
We report a photocatalytic strategy for the chemodivergent radical benzylation of 4-cyanopyridines. The chemistry uses a single photoredox catalyst to generate benzyl radicals upon N–F bond activation of 2-alkyl N-fluorobenzamides. The judicious choice of different photocatalyst quenchers allowed us to select at will between mechanistically divergent processes. The two reaction manifolds, an ipso-substitution path proceeding via radical coupling and a Minisci-type addition, enabled selective access to regioisomeric C4 or C2 benzylated pyridines, respectively. Mechanistic investigations shed light on the origin of the chemoselectivity switch. We report a photocatalytic strategy for the chemodivergent radical benzylation of 4-cyanopyridines. The chemistry uses a single photoredox catalyst to generate benzyl radicals upon N–F bond activation of 2-alkyl N-fluorobenzamides.![]()

Abstract
The direct use structurally simple ketones as α-ketone radical sources for α-C(sp3)-H functionalization is a sustainable and powerful approach for constructing complex and multifunctional chemical scaffolds with diverse applications. The reactions of α-ketone radicals with alkenes, alkynes, enynes, imides, and imidazo[1,2-a]pyridines have broadened the structural diversity and complexity of ketones. Through chosen illustrative examples, we outline the recent progress in the development of methods that enable the radical α-C(sp3)-H functionalization of ketones, with an emphasis on radical initiation systems and possible mechanisms of the transformations. The application of these strategies is illustrated by the synthesis of several biologically active molecules and drug molecules. Further subdivision is based on substrate type and reaction type.

Abstract
A regioselective arylation of aliphatic N-fluorosulfonamides with imidazopyridines enabled by breaking of N-F and α C(sp3)-H bond to form C-N and C-C bonds was described. With CuCl as the catalyst, a radical mechanism was proposed to produce N-arylated aliphatic sulfonamides via a N radical intermediate. Importantly, under acidic conditions, an in situ generated imine was the possible intermediate, which was trapped by imidazopyridines to form α C(sp3)-H arylated aliphatic sulfonamides. The current protocol featured a broad substrate scope, tunable reaction conditions, operational convenience, and good regioselectivity.
