Abstract
Herein, we describe a Zn-catalyzed atom-economical, inexpensive, and sustainable method for preparing a broad spectrum of substituted olefins utilizing alcohols as the main precursor. Using a Zn(II) complex [ZnLCl2] (1) of the redox-noninnocent ligand 2-((4-chlorophenyl)diazenyl)-1,10-phenanthroline (L), various (E)-olefins were prepared in good yields by coupling alcohols with sulfones and aryl cyanides under an inert atmosphere. Under an aerial atmosphere, vinyl nitriles were isolated in up to 82% yield reacting alcohols with benzyl cyanides in the presence of 1. Control experiments and mechanistic investigation indicate the active involvement of the aryl-azo ligand as an electron and hydrogen reservoir, permitting 1 to perform as a promising catalyst.

Abstract
The utilization of economical and environmentally benign transition metals in crucial catalytic processes is pivotal for sustainable advancement in synthetic organic chemistry. Iron, as the most abundant transition metal in the Earth's crust, has gained significant attention for this purpose. A combination of FeCl2 (5 mol%) in the presence of phenanthroline (10 mol%) and NaOtBu (1.5 equivalent) proved effective for the C(α)-alkylation of oxindole, employing challenging secondary alcohol as a non-hazardous alkylating agent. The C(α)-alkylation of oxindole was optimized in green solvent or under neat conditions. The substrate scope encompasses a broad array of substituted oxindoles with various secondary alcohols. Further post-functionalization of the C(α)-alkylated oxindole products demonstrated the practical utility of this catalytic alkylation. One-pot C-H hydroxylation of alkylated oxindoles yielded 3-alkyl-3-hydroxy-2-oxindoles using air as the most sustainable oxidant. Low E-factors (3.61 to 4.19) and good Eco-scale scores (74 to 76) of these sustainable catalytic protocols for the alkylation and one-pot sequential alkylation-hydroxylation of oxindoles demonstrated minimum waste generation. Plausible catalytic paths are proposed on the basis of past reports and control experiments, which suggested that a borrowing hydrogen pathway is involved in this alkylation.

Abstract
N,N,P-Pincer nickel complexes effectively catalyze reaction of alcohols with benzylphosphine oxides to form alkenes in good yields. The protocol suits for a wide scope of substrates and generates only E-configurated alkenes. The method also shows good compatibility of functional groups. Methoxy, methylthio, trifluoromethyl, ketal, fluoro, chloro, bromo, thienyl, and furyl groups are tolerated. The mechanism studies support that the reaction proceeds through catalytic dehydrogenation of alcohols to aldehydes or ketones followed by condensation with benzyldiphenylphosphine oxides in the presence of KOtBu.

Abstract
Herein, we have reported the synthesis of a macrocyclic organosulfur ligand (L1) having a seventeen-membered macrocyclic ring. Subsequently, the corresponding trans-palladium complex (C1) of bulky macrocyclic organosulfur ligand (L1) was synthesized by reacting it with PdCl2 (CH3 CN)2 salt. The newly synthesized ligand and complex were characterized using various analytical and spectroscopic techniques. The complex showed a square planar geometry with trans orientation of two ligands around the palladium center. The complex possesses intramolecular SCH…Cl interactions of 2.648 Å between the macrocyclic ligand and palladium dichloride. The potential energy surface (PES) for the rotational process of C1 suggested a barrier of ~23.81 kcal/mol for chlorine rotation. Furthermore, the bulky macrocyclic organosulfur ligand stabilized palladium complex (C1) was used as a catalyst (2.5 mol %) for α-olefination of nitriles by primary alcohols. The α,β-unsaturated nitrile compounds were found to be the major product of the reaction (57-78 % yield) with broad substrate scope and large functional group tolerance. Notably, the saturated nitrile product was not observed during the reaction. The mechanistic studies suggested the formation of H2 and H2 O as only by-products of the reaction, thereby making the protocol greener and sustainable.

Abstract
A novel synthetic approach to preparing alkenyl nitriles via the olefination of aldehydes with diazoacetonitrile catalyzed by iron(II) phthalocyanine in the presence of PPh3 has been developed. A broad variety of aldehydes are efficiently transformed into the corresponding products with the high yields of 75%-97%. And it is also suitable for its gram-scale preparation. The suggested mechanism involves the transformation of the phosphazine to ylide by iron(II) phthalocyanine.

Abstract
The stilbenes are undoubtedly some of the most significant moieties in various bioactive natural and synthetic structures, and they are considered privileged structures. In recent years, the preparation of these structures via cross-coupling reactions has attracted much attention. In the current review, we present a summary of the recent developments in the construction of stilbene and stilbene derivatives by carbon-carbon coupling reactions of organic compounds in the presence of transition metal catalysts or under metal-free conditions. In this context, we outline the features of the important reactions, some product yields, and challenging reaction mechanisms.

Abstract
α-Alkyl and α-olefin nitriles are very important for organic synthesis and medicinal chemistry. However, different types of catalysts are employed to achieve either α-alkylation of nitriles by borrowing hydrogen or α-olefination by dehydrogenative coupling methods. Designing and developing high-performance earth-abundant catalysts that can procure different products from the same starting materials remain a great challenge. Herein, we report an iron(0) catalyst system that achieves chemoselectivity between borrowing hydrogen and dehydrogenative coupling protocols by simply changing the base. A broad range of nitriles and alcohols, including benzylic, linear aliphatic, cycloaliphatic, heterocyclic, and allylic alcohols, were selectively and efficiently converted to the corresponding products. Mechanistic studies reveal that the reaction mechanism proceeds through a dehydrogenative pathway. This iron catalytic protocol is environmentally benign and atom-efficient with the liberation of H2 and H2O as green byproducts.

Abstract
Herein, the synthesis of (Z)-α,β-unsaturated nitriles by a sequential hydroformylation/Knoevenagel reaction has been first developed. A variety of crude α-olefins from Fischer-Tropsch synthesis, internal and special olefins, as well as alkynes could be transformed into value-added alkenyl nitriles (39 examples) up to 90% yield. Remarkably, compared with commonly used tedious multistep reactions, the one-pot protocol features cheap and easily available raw materials, excellent chemo-, regio-, and stereoselectivity, very mild reaction conditions, and easy scale-up production.
