Abstract
A library of 2,5-furan-based phenylene/thiophene oligomers were synthesized starting from 5-bromofurfural, a derivative of biomass-derived furfural. Varied electronic groups are coupled onto the furan motif, followed by the installation of a phenylene or thiophene central linker through a one-pot Pd-catalyzed decarboxylative cross-coupling reaction. Resulting oligomers containing the furan-phenylene-furan core possess high photoluminescent quantum yields in solution (83-98%), which are crucial for optoelectronic devices. Absorbance and photoluminescence maxima are tuned by changing peripheral functional groups and the center linker coupled onto the furan backbone.

Abstract
A novel and effective RhIII- and PdII-controlled switchable C-H alkenylation of 2-pyridylthiophenes with alkenes is realized. The alkenylation reactions proceeded smoothly in a highly regio- and stereo-selective manner to afford a broad range of C3- and C5-alkenylated products. Depending on the catalyst employed, the reactions involve two typical approaches: C3-alkenylation via chelation-assisted rhodation and C5-alkenylation via electrophilic palladation. This regiodivergent synthetic protocol was successfully applied for the straightforward building of π-conjugated difunctionalized 2-pyridylthiophenes, which may show great potential in organic electronic materials.

Abstract
A general approach for the metal-free synthesis of thiophenes by tert-cyclobutanols and elemental sulfur has been developed. This protocol provides a strategy for constructing multisubstituted thiophene derivatives via C-S bond formation under air. This reaction shows good functionality tolerance under the reaction conditions, and the mechanism is validated by control experiments and density functional theory calculations.
