Abstract
A simple and atom-economical one-step protocol is described for the synthesis of biologically valuable 3-isoquinuclidones. The method proceeds from the simple starting materials, α-acyl N-arylcinnamamides, and can be performed under mild conditions in the presence of tBuOK. The key steps of this process are the double Michael addition reaction of a Nazarov-like reagent and the subsequent intramolecular hemiamination. These flexible intermolecular reactions could be performed on a gram scale.

Abstract
We report a highly regioselective three-component coupling reaction of styrene, CO gas, and an amine compound to synthesize multisubstituted α,β-unsaturated amides, which involves a palladium-catalyzed sequential 1,4-palladium migration, C(sp2)-H activation, carbonylation, and amination. Salient features of this strategy include the use of 1 atm of CO, excellent stereochemistry, and good functional group tolerance. Further, a series of control experiments and density functional theory calculations were performed to afford some insights for the transfer mechanism.

Abstract
Palladium-catalyzed linear-selective hydroesterification of vinyl arenes with alcohols enabled by diphosphine ligands derived from bis[2-(diphenylphosphino)ethyl]amides has been developed. A variety of 3-arylpropanoate esters were obtained in high yields and regioselectivity. The robustness of this methodology was further demonstrated by the efficient gram-scale synthesis of the ethyl 3-phenylpropanoate as a precursor to hydrocinnamic acid.
